What do you think we are going to buy into Dvc,but which resort is the problem.Hubby doesn't want disney every year.Every other is good for him.Should i buy at HH or BCV.We go in early June or late August.Would need one bedroom which would be easier to get a t 7 months out.

HH does not have many 1 BR's so the 11 month advantage is important there.

Quite frankly if you do not have your heart set on staying at BCV, then HH would be your best choice. Unless you are going at peak holiday times or have your heart set on staying at a particular resort, you should be able to find accommodation availability within DVC at WDW (if only at OKW).

We really don't care about a certain resort at Dvc as long as we are on property. We have always stayed at the all stars. So any of the Dvc would be a upgrade for us LOL. We just know that we want to buy into DVC.

Hi!

My husband and I just recently purchased at BCV. We are very excited about BCV's location and amenities. However, after reading the posts on these boards and the DVC literature, we decided to do an add-on at HH. We have never been there nor have we ever vacationed in the Carolinas. Though, after reading about the resort and the activities offered there, it seems like it will be a great summer (or spring break) alternative to WDW (relaxing by the beach, enjoying nature, etc.).

An add-on at Vero Beach was not a consideration due to the fact that my parents live in FL by the east coast, and own at Marriott's vacation club. I also figured that we might be more inclined to drive to HH from NY (to save on airfare $s).

We only did a 55pt add-on at HH. This, according to the current point chart, should be enough to get us a 1BDR for a Sun-Thur stay at the end of August (or during spring break), every other year. As ripleysmom pointed out, that 11 month appears to be a necessity for months that you had mentioned.

I am afraid, of course, that after our first stay that HH we will want to add more points! But fortunately that won't be for awhile, as we have many WDW vacations in our immediate future to get good use out of those APs!

Just my two cents. Good luck on your decision!

ticket what time of the are you thinking about vacationing? That is also an important consideration.

As of right now we would go either the second week of june or the 3rd week of august.July is way to hot to visit Fl.I'm sure its very hot at HH also.So we always vacation before it hits the 90's

I think if you are routinely planning to go to Hilton Head in June, July or August, you need to own at HH with the eleven month booking period... I think early to mid June or the end of August might be easier to get on property than HH at that time of year...

I live in South Carolina about 80 miles from the beaches and don't plan on August being anything but hot, hot, hot in HH. June is also hot. We finally have a break, but the last few weeks we have been in the mid-90s. It seems each year our warm weather is lasting longer and is hotter for longer periods of time. We start back to school the first part of August. For all of August and most of September we have hot weather in this area. October and April are usually the most pleasant months to visit if you don't want it hot. Also remember that the HH resort is on an island and not on the ocean. It does not benefit from ocean breezes, only land. The Beach House is on the ocean and is cooler. A few years ago I was staying in June at another timeshare on the oceanfront and there was a good breeze. We went to Sheltor Cove near Disney for the Tuesday night festival and had to leave it was so hot. No breeze.

ticket, you didn't say how many points you plan to buy, but I am a proponent of buying multiple resorts, espescially if you plan to stay both on and off property. you absolutely HAVE to have points at VB and HH to be able to go there during peak periods. If you plan to buy 150, then it's not possible (until you add on :) ), if you plan to buy more, then buy 150 (minimum first contract) at one resort and the rest at the other.

Well I guess since we really want to visit HH every other year and its harder to get a ressie there we better buy there.I'm going to call today and see what they have left at HH.I'll let everyone know what they have left since I keep hearing that they are almost sold out.

Can't wait to hear what they have left at HH, as you said, some use years are sold out there...

Just got off the phone with my guide and was told that HH inventory was low and that they have Feb,March,April&June left. Was a ready to say yes and he informed me that the down payment is now 10%even if you sell back points. Now I'm not sure if i want HH orBCV. Was going with HH since its a larger buy back amount. So I must decide by June 1

I don't know if this info will be helpful, but the on-site resorts seem to have a much greater demand and are higher priced on the resale market, should you ever choose to sell... I guess if they are the same money then maybe you should go with BCV's & try to trade points with a HH owner for the years you want the 11 month booking period...

Thats what I was thinking.Do you know what the annual dues are for BCV?I'm also looking into a resale.Found that they might actually work out better.

The current 2002 rates (taken off www.reid4florida.com) are as follows:

The annual maintenance fee for 2002 at OKW (Old Key West) is $3.22 per point... Boardwalk is $3.93 per point, Vero Beach is $4.17 per point, and Hilton Head is $3.49 per point. Wilderness Lodge is $3.81 per point.

I suspect the BCV rates will be the same as Boardwalk or just a few cents less....

Check out the reid site for resales as well, you might find something!

If my memory serves me correctly, I think BCV dues are $3.77 per point.

For what it's worth, just thought I'd add my 2 cents here :)

Just got off the phone with my guide-- we are brand new owners!! As a Disney Store CM, I have known about DVC forever, but could never seem to get the downpymt together... Well with the June 2nd price increase coming, we said, that's it, we're in NOW!
I too was dissappointed to find out the dwnpymt is now 10% no matter what.. so I'm scrapping again, but we are still going to do it! :bounce:

We are buying into HH for the following reasons:
Of course everything you have read from the other posters is totally correct. And Hilton Head is beautiful! My family has owned timeshare there for over 20 yrs ( not DVC of course LOL) That is one reason we first thought of HH, my mom's week there is in June and if we want to go with her, we thought we should have the 11 month window.
The 'buy back' price per point is slightly higher at HH ( currently $10/pt) and the maintenance fee is a little lower as someone posted above. But did you realize that if you do want to do the magical beginning ( the buy back of points) that you can't do that at BCV? At least that's what my guide just told me.... I guess if you can't stay there yet, there aren't any points to have used or sold back LOL.
That fact is what sealed our choice of Hilton Head.

Hope this helps you a little :)

I agree with the folks who say buy HH if you want to go to the beach there in the summer. I have relatives in the Charleston area and if there is a family event we can get great accomodations as long as its before Memorial Day...after that...its tough.

I'll also add that with HH you can buy resale. Check the board sponsor or other resale brokers for cheaper prices.
