HH in Feb, March?

How is the weather in HH in Feb or March or even November? We like off-seasons but wondering if it will be way too cold for us? No, don't expect to swim, but what would be open that time of year, recreation & restaurant wise? Museums?
Is Savannah a reasonable day trip?

We have visited HH between mid March to early April for the past 5 years. We are golfers and have enjoyed the weather with shorts on. We've seen swimmers at the pool having a blast. We are from Chicago so the Spring weather is very enjoying to us during this time.

We've taken the tours in Savannah and done our own sightseeing there. Outlet shopping is open. The restaurants are open and not busy so you don't usually have to wait for a table.

The Coastal Discovery Museum is right on Hilton Head. It's small, though, and won't take you long to go through, but definitely worthwhile. They also have a lot of info on other places to go.

If Connie is giving one of the Hilton Head Island tours while you're there, do that. I think it's about $20 per person, which includes a visit to the Coastal Discovery Museum, the Fort Mitchell ruins and the Harbour Town light house.

A day trip to Savannah or Beaufort will give you lots more to do. If you have extra time, try Charleston, but IMHO it's too much to drive there, tour, and drive back to HH in just one day.

I'm sure you won't be the only ones in the pool -- I don't think there has ever been a trip where we haven't seen people swimming -- the lifeguards are bundled up in their sweats, but people are still in the pool!

Thanks so much, will do Connie's tour. I can't resist Savannahso will have to do that. We are really looking forward to HH. I think DH could really unwind there. DS16 & I can go knock a few balls around--that'll be a treat in March!

Pinckney Island! One of the past naturalists (Bryan) used to do a "Pinckey Island Birding Adventure". I don't know if the new naturalist is doing anything like that or not. Pinckney Island is not far at all -- you cross it between I-95 and Hilton Head Island. If the resort isn't offering anything like that, just plan a trip there and you should be fine. I don't know for sure, but maybe you could find out more at the Coastal Discovery Museum?

I'm glad you asked this question because I was wondering the exact same thing. As soon as my points kick in, I think that Hilton Head will be the first thing I spend them on. I intend to take my parents down there. I was looking at the point cost of getting a two-bedroom place, but then I noticed that two studios are a lot cheaper. Considering we're all adults and it's not like we'll be leaving small children alone in a room, I think that will be the best option.

I'm glad you asked this question because I was wondering the exact same thing. As soon as my points kick in, I think that Hilton Head will be the first thing I spend them on. I intend to take my parents down there. I was looking at the point cost of getting a two-bedroom place, but then I noticed that two studios are a lot cheaper. Considering we're all adults and it's not like we'll be leaving small children alone in a room, I think that will be the best option.

Depending on when you're planning on going and what you're planning to do, you may want to splurge on the 2BR. HH is a very different experience from WDW. We spend more time in and around our room at HH than we do at WDW. Having the extra living space as well as the full kitchen and laundry facilities is well worth it to us!!

We're also avid birders, and when we go to HH (February or March every year), that's the main reason for our trip. The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is a must for any birder, also Pinckney Island. I know I did it in 2003 with Christopher. Don't know if they have a new naturalist after him yet, anyone know? Also, there's a nice little birder's walk around the resort, and both Brian and Christopher have pointed out a couple birds we might not otherwise have seen. Also, there's a great little book with HH sites to birdwatch-PM me if you're interested in knowing more. I'd be happy to tell you more. All the resturaunts are open in February and March, as well as all the activities, but I wouldn't recommend the Dolphin Tour in February-it gets really cold out there on the water! But then again, when we went in February, it was almost always in the mid-40s, windy, rainy, miserable weather. Did you enjoy it? You betcha! Sitting in the overstuffed chair in Big Murgie's Den with my hot cider and cookies-priceless!

Thank you Simba's Mom. The birding aspect will make the trip truly a joy for all the family. Actually, the birding & nature trips make it even a more interesting spot for a bunch of family members. We have al lot of avid birders on both sides of the family!
