Help!!! I can plan a trip to WDW all day long, but I am at a bit of a loss for HH. What would you do? We are there from 12/20 - 12/27 with my family.

(Sidebar: We have my mom, my DH and DD 4, my sis and bil and their two DSs 7 & 3. My father passed away this summer, so we wanted to be away from everyone's house and just be together somewhere. HH seems like a nice, laid-back place to be)

Our biggest idea is to make our own stockings on Christmas eve. Other than that, I have read about campfires and bike rides and such.

But for you experienced HHers....what would your itinerary look like?

Any and all help anyone is willing to provide would be awesome! Trying to make this a special, fun, relaxing vacation.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I would try to get a "A Private Affair" dinner with Chef Gordon. Also, I'm sure the resort will have different activities planned.

A Private Affair is an excellent idea, if you can get someone to stay with the kids or if you can schedule it on a night when there is a "Kids Night Out" offered by the resort.

You might also want to check out this site: http://www.hiltonheadisland.com It's loaded with information and ads about just about everything on the island.

You can also check this site: www.islandpacket.com
It's the local newspaper and they might have some articles about special events that might be going on in the area.

I'm not sure if the resort offers prepared dinners for Christmas like they do at Thanksgiving and Easter, but you could call to find out. You can also ask them to send or fax you the current activity list for the resort so that you can see what types of activities are offered at the resort. Although may be slightly different during the week you're there, you will at least have an idea of what you want to plan for.

You can also plan a trip to Harbourtown to climb up the lighthouse for a spectacular view. A day trip to Beaufort, Savannah, or Charleston would also be a nice treat.

You can rent bicycles through the resort for a discounted rate and enjoy some of the many miles of bike paths on the island.

And last, but definitely not least, shopping! There are outlet malls located in Bluffton (between HHI and I-95) and all kinds of shopping centers with great stores to keep you busy!!

Oh, and don't forget the zillions of restaurants there!

We're arriving the day after you leave to spend New Year's Eve...sorry we'll miss you!

Thanks so much ya'll were very helpful!!! I really appreciate it. I will check out the links and check about the schedule of activities. Good ideas!

We spent xmas there 2 years ago. Brought a small tree and our stocking.(we drive down). The resort has alot of happenings including cookies with Sanat and Southern snowball fights(with white tube socks). There was a wonderful live nativity play (a musical with a portion devoted to a childrens choir) at a riding stable in Seapines. It was very professionally done. they also had live animals for the kids. It was sponsored by a community church and the only "plug" can after the show when their pastor spoke. People were quietly leaving at this point and it was fine. We really enjoyed it, it was on Christmas eve so we felt like we attended church! You could do your own christmas dinner if you have a 1-2 bedrrom. We made Ham and the fixin's(grocery stores are close by the resort. They may also have a planned oyster roast at the beach house, they did one year we were there. I'll be at WDW, but HHI at the holidays is our favorite!
Connears

The resort will also have a nice schedule of programs for all ages during your stay.

The weather will generally be cool, so all of the activities already mentioned will be appropriate.

Biking is our favorite HH activity- especially during cool weather and the island has miles of paved bike trails to enjoy. There are even some local historical sites you can explore by bike (plantation ruins and oyster shell mounds- both in Sea Pines).

Have a great trip! HH is a wonderful family spot!

Connears - an OYSTER ROAST??? Ooooooooooooohhhhhhh can't wait!

WebDoc - thanks for the tips on bike riding

We are truly looking forward to this vacation!

Thanks everyone!
