Hi,

My mom & I just decided to go to HH for 6 days instead of 4 next May after being on the Disney Wonder!! Been before in October 2003 but only for 4 days. We will have our car. Let the ideas flow!!! ::teeth: BTW, it will be a one bedroom. Thanks,

If you like jazz, go to the Jazz Corner at Village at Wexford. If you like birding, visit Pinckney Island. There are good boat tours of the sound out of Shelter Cove area and out of Sunset Beach marina too. Dolphin watching is popular. Harbourtown marina has boat trips, some nice sunset trips too. You can also dine at Quarterdeck and hear live music some nights, a caribbean-type combo. Have fun! :wave2:

Hi,

Sounds like fun! Do you have some #'s for the boat tours?? I have to see if they are accessible for a wheelchair. Do you have prices too? Thanks!!! You can send me a PM if you'd like. Keep those ideas coming.

We were at HHI for 6 days in February. It rained and was windy and cold almost all week-miserable weather. There were a lot of things we couldn't do, but we still had a good time-I never missed the afternoon cookies and hot cider in Big Murgie's Den; nor my morning trip to read USA Today in Big Murgie's Den. Honest! I just loved the atmosphere. Spent lots of time sitting on our porch (which is covered if it rains, thank goodness) or on the benches out the back of the Main Lodge, looking for Dolphins (bring your binocculars) Hoping to get up to the Coastal Discovery Museum next time.

Hi,

Thanks for your experinence!! Do you know if they have cookies and stuff tp drink all year long? I was there in October but I don't remember seeing anything. :(

Yes, I think they have cookies all year round. Hot cider with them when it's cold, soda when it's hot, I think.

If you go to HHI you absolutely MUST go over to River Street and City Market in Savannah. We were there last weekend and they had a concert going on at city market. Ice Cream is wonderful on River Street, but save your prailines for the candy shop in City Market. Also, if you feel like taking a drive, there is a restaurant called the Bucanneer on the Sapelo River (between Brunswick and Savannah) that has the BEST seafood. Literally, if you are eating it today, it was in the ocean last night.

Have a great trip! :wave2:

A day in Savannah or Charleston would be fun!
I can't comment on Savannah because we have never been there, however from momofbuzzlight's description, it definitely sounds like something for a future trip.
BUT, I can comment on Charleston. We just returned from a trip that included a visit to Charleston, it was our first time ever visiting this city. It will definitely NOT be our last visit to this wonderful place. We absolutely fell in love with Charleston. What a nice place! It is so quaint, pretty, historic, has wonderful resorts, unbelievable restaurants, tons and tons of stuff to do for every age and interest, AND some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I can't express how impressed I was with Charleston. We have vacationed to many fine cities and tourist destinations and like many of them very much, but no other "non Disney" vacation destination has ever impressed me as much as Charleston. This wonderful city is definitely a hidden gem!
I can't wait to go back! We have other vacations planned for the remainder of this year but we are definitely going back for a vacation to Charleston in early '05. I am even postponing a WDW trip and replacing it with a trip to Charleston! For me--this is nothing short of amazing, LOL!! That is how much I was wowed by this wonderful place.
If there are any DVC members on this board from Charleston, I would like to say what a wonderful city you have. It is amazing the pride that has been shown in the preservation of this beautiful city. Truely wonderful!!

so, if I were to drive to Charleston, what would I be looking to do there? It sounds pretty, but that wouldn't be enough for the kids! What did you do there?

Glad to hear the positive thoughts about Charleston - that's all I've ever heard, too! We're going there this weekend on our way to HHI!

Hi,

Mom & I have been to charleston before but it's been awhile. :) We liked it too. Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming.

Try a day trip to Beaufort. It's not too far, and is a very charming little town. The carriage tour is a lot of fun. We enjoy HHI in May.

We were extremely active when were went last August. We hiked from our bedroom to the deck for breakfast. Then we did some sight seeing enroute to the pool and relaxed at what had to be a mirage while drinking some pina coladas. All this work required some relaxation on the deck in the afternoon and enjoy a book while watching the boats come in and listen to the music across the lagoon.

Actually we rented bikes (DW and three kids). We would bike around the complex and to the beach and beach house. I did some golfing. The kids enjoyed their freedom to roam and do some activities while we partook in some too. All of this now allows us to go back and still see things that are new to us.

It was one of the most enjoyable vacations I had. Relaxing while still under the umbrella of the Disney theme.

I couldn't have said it better myself!! Ahhhh, I SO look forward to HH vacations!!:sunny:

There is a ton of stuff for kids to do in Charleston. There is a very nice aquarium, children's museum, horse drawn carriage rides, harbor boat tours, all kinds of historic tours, including several tours of "Haunted Charleston" where you tour supposedly haunted cemetries and houses (prefect for the middle school set). There are museums, Fort Sumter, naval and maritime attractions, several very nice plantations you can visit, some with working craftsman and a petting zoo. Middleton Plantation even has an outdoor program which offers horse back riding, biking and nature trails and boating. There is also Cypress Gardens, live theatre productions including some geared to kids, tons and tons of neat stores and shopping and fantastic restaurants from the casual deli to the gourmet restaurant. There are nearby beaches, fishing, etc. Also just walking around downtown Charleston and going to the outdoor market is a very nice way to spend an afternoon. Downtown Charleston is very quaint and pretty, complete with cobblestone streets and many truely beautiful and authentic homes and gardens.
When I say there is a lot to do in Charleston and it is all top of the line attractions, I kid you not.
We are going back for 6 days on our next trip and I know we will not even be able to do half of what there is to do. But that is alright because I know Charleston will be one of our regular vacation destinations from now on.

Thanks for taking the time to tell all that. I'm going to have to look into it for our August trip to HH. :hyper:

OK, I did a search, but I just couldn't find it.... anyone know how long of a car ride it is to Charleston???
