Are you allowed to utilize the beach house if you are not checked in at the time. We may not be able to make a ressie at HH for the time in March we want. However, we might drive our Motorhome down and camp if we could access the beach house while we're there.

Thank you in advance for your help!

The Beach House is in a gated development called Palmetto Dunes, and when you check in, you are given a pass to get through the gate and to the beach house. I doubt they will let you in without that pass, as I saw vehicles being checked at the gate. I want to warn you about taking a motorhome to HH. We drove our small, van-like motorhome to HH last month and were denied access to Harbourtown, another gated development on the island that has many restaurants, shopping, a marina and the famous HH lighthouse. We had no problem with our little motorhome at our Disney resort or getting into the Beach House parking lot, but we were checked-in guests and had the pass.

Also, even if you got to the Beach House, it requires a room key to get access inside.

Finally, as I understand it, the use of the Beach House is meant for members actually staying on points at the time. This is similar to the pools at OKW and BWV are for use by members staying on points at the time, and not for members in general who are just in the area.

If you just want to see the Beach House and the resort (assuming you've never been there), you can probably arrange that with the HH sales staff.

There is an RV resort on Hilton Head Island, although we've never used it. Forget about driving a large motorhome anywhere. It just isn't practical. From the post above KMarie couldn't even get their class B unit in. A class A or a class C unit definitely would not be allowed in.

If you stay in the campground and have a toad then you could use it. Another choice, if you don't want to stay, is park your rig at one of the Outlet malls parking lots before you get to the island, then use your toad vehicle to drive around HHI itself.

DVC does not extend usage to members not staying at the resort. Some resorts do to include Marriott's. I think they should for HH and possibly VB but don't think it's reasonable for WDW.

Dean,
I respectfully dissagree regarding letting folks use resort areas when not staying there. At Vero, the pool can get fairly crowded, to add additional local guests, would take away from the experience paying guests are driving a long distance to experience. I would rather not see that change.

True, that's why I said possibly VB. I know the Marriott's on HH allow day usage by owners and I think all Marriott's do but am not sure. HH is a fixed quantity and DVC's probably not the place people would buy just to have access to the pool at HH. VB might have a larger risk being the only resort and having a larger pool area.

While day usage at HH would not affect the facilities at some times of the year, it most certainly would at many times during the summer.

The Beach House pool and facility is often very crowded and there is already a problem with locals "visiting" the facility. The resort itself has a very restricted parking availability- so day use most of the year would truly create a problem.

We were at HH in late October and went to the beach house like the tourists from Indiana we were. It was COLD so no one else with sense was there. We drove down into the parking garage part of the beach house and walked right out to the beach - never using or needing our room card.

However, they do check your vehicle pass in Palmetto Dunes. Not CLOSELY however, but they do make sure you have a pass in the window.
