Hey teachers! When do you go to WDW?

I'm not sure if your a teacher but my wife is and is taking a week off to go to Disney. Teachers do not get enough respect, money, or recognition for all that they do and I do not begrudge any teacher taking some time off that is outside thier regular breaks. People in the business world get to go to the bathroom when they need to, get time to eat lunch, are sometimes paid or get comp time when they work overtime. More and more teachers are supposed to do jobs that when I was a kid my parent's responsibilties. We seldom take time off during the regular schoolyear, but to say a teacher is unprofessional if they do so is not the right label!

YES I AM A TEACHER. No I am not teacher bashing. I agree we get paid to little, have to little respect and this stinks, but taking vacation outside of contactual limits only makes the "publics" view of us worse. It's a matter of the right thing to do rather than what you "want" to do.

I'm a teacher (no kids yet) but we only travel during school breaks. I've taken off an occasional Friday or Monday for a long weekend, but no more than that. I personally wouldn't be able to relax knowing everything I was going to have to get caught up on when I got back. I think taking an entire week off would be pretty frowned upon in my district - unless it was something special like a honeymoon.

Enjoy your trips. :flower: There is nothing unprofessional about using your personal days to go to Disney. Hence the word "personal".

Furthermore, I never frown upon one of my students taking a family vacation. We don't exist in a fish bowl - often times there are other people, and circumstances, in a family to factor in. The week that a parent might have open for a vacation (especially if it's a military family) may not jive well with the school calendar, or vice versa. Lessons can travel. Then there's the beauty of an added opportunity for an enrichment paper.

Life is too short to quibble over five days with loved ones in a happy place. We work hard, our parents work hard and our students work hard. All of the parties involved (teacher, sub, parent, student) need to be committed to making sure all of the bases are covered. If you put great effort into making sure the plans run smoothly, all should go well. Again, it's five days, so enjoy.

I am a teacher in Ohio and have twice gone during the school year, taking days. We are allowed three personal days, which cannot be tied on to holidays but can be consectutive. Then we are allowed to carry one over to have up to four total if you do not use one during the year. If you have more than one personal day you can make them all sick days. You can never have more than 4 a year.

I went with my husband one fall (he travels for his job in was in FL) and missed two days and hit Disney two days. Then my inlaws took us all in early December this past year and I took three days. I love going off season, but know that it will get harder to do as my dd gets older and hits school age. We are actually headed back to Disney the evening of my teacherworkday--June 6th!
