If you're not interested in a half marathon..what about a 5K? I know you are working with a trainer, but there is a program called Couch to 5K that helps you get prepared to run a 5K in about 6 weeks. I'm starting the program the first week of July. A 5K sounds much more manageable than a half marathon at this point!

Just a thought..

That is a great suggestion. I am someone who never ever ran in my life, and although i played sports in high school, i hated the running involved in it. The mile and a half run I had to do for football felt like torture every year. The last time I had done that was 14 years ago! My wife picked up running to get in shape for our WDW wedding five years ago, and she ran a 5K in the summer of 2006. I signed up for it but never actually ran or trained or anything, and i ended up watching from the finish line. I was so proud of her but so mad at myself. That is when I did a running program similar to what you described. I started in June 06 and ran my first 5K in September. I then ran the Disney 5K through MGM in 2007. Seeing Marathon weekend was like a drug and I was hooked - somehow, someway I was going to run the Disney 1/2 marathon. I took the year and tried to train when possible, and I completed the 2008 Half!! :cool1: I was so proud and excited, and I love my picture of DW & me holding up our medals and wearing our Mickey ears in front of the Partner's statue. She was my partner through that training, and although it took me over 3 hours, I was thrilled to finish.

There are walking, walk/running, run/walking, and running programs out there for half marathon training. MANY MANY people walk or walk/run these events. I say start with the 5K and work your way up. If I can do it (I am 6'2" and at my highest weighed 294 lbs!) anyone can do it.

I was actually talking back to my radio when listening to this saying the exact same thing. I had planned on calling in and leaving a voicemail this week with the challenge that Pete run w/ my 60+ year old mother and my DH and I in Jan for the 5k... then I heard this vm and thought, darn, he beat me to it:goodvibes then I thought a 1/2 might be a bit much for Pete, but the C2 5k would be great. My goal when I started (and couldn't run more then 30 seconds) was to run in the 5k in Jan with my parents.. my mom can't run a lick but she can walk fast... I've moved up my goal and now I'm running in my first 5k next week:scared1: and have started training to run/walk a 1/2 (Princess 1/2 is my goal, but DH doesn't think I should head back down to the World that soon:lmao: ) Pete, I challenge you to run/walk the Jan 5k with me... if my mom's going to do it (she's never run a day in her life:rotfl: ) then you can do it too!!!:yay:

Any other DISers joining the running bandwagon? Maybe we can get a whole group together for one of the WDW running events, and we will have Pete out at the front of our group!!
