We were originally scheduled to fly out of MSP at like 9am. The flight has moved to almost 2pm on Airtran.

Since we have the day off already, I thought we could go check in at HHH 4 hours early, maybe even get exit row seats since they are assigned the day of the flight, and then take the light rail over to MOA for a little fun. Light rail runs every 10 minutes and it is about a 10 minute ride.

We could visit Rainforst Cafe or the Park at MOA. We would then grab light rail back to HHH in plenty of time to make our flight....

thoughts?

You need to be aware that many airlines will not accept checked luggage so far before a flight, so you may not be able to check bags 4 hours before flight times. If you if have checked baggage, you may have to take this to the restaurant with you. Call Air Tran and check on this.

I think the plan will work - but watch your flight times as we just used AirTran MSP-MCO last week and the times seemed to change almost daily! We really liked HHH - it was so much calmer than Lindbergh. I also might try to get on an earlier flight - seemed like there were lots of flights to MCO via Atlanta per day. Good luck! :thumbsup2

Okay now that I have got that out of the way!

I think you plan sounds great! As you get closer to your trip, monitor they flight times. Also make sure there is not a big event at the Dome on that day. People park and ride the light rail...bad experience during the Twins/Cubs game. Cub fans where everywhere and the trains were packed!

Have a great trip!

Airlines will take baggage 4 hours prior to a flight departure, but no earlier.

From www.metrotransit.org website. Not sure when you're flying, but the Humphrey transit station will be closed starting September 9th. Below it indicates the LTR from MSP to HHH for sure will not be working, but I can't tell if HHH to MOA will be working or not?

Humphrey station to close for a year
Hop on free shuttle bus for service
Starting Saturday, Sept. 9, the rail station at the Humphrey Terminal will close for about a year due to airport construction. Hiawatha light-rail trains will not stop at the station during that time.

For service to the Humphrey Terminal, exit the train at Lindbergh Station and board a free shuttle bus on the ground level. Buses provide 24-hour service between airport terminals.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission is building an additional parking ramp at Humphrey Terminal. Because the project is near the light-rail station, officials decided to close the station for safety reasons during construction.

Shuttle buses operate frequently and stop at the ground level of the main airport terminal and the front door of Humphrey Airport Terminal. Watch for signs at the airport terminals for directions. Allow for extra time if you are traveling.

This is good to know. I have two options then. Take the shuttle from HHH to Lindbergh and grab the light rail from there or just take a cab. A cab ride might even be cheaper with 4 of us riding.... it is a short ride to MOA.

We could also just park at MOA and have fun. Then take the car over to Park N Fly and go from there... the only bad thing is we won't be able to get exit row seats.....

duds, the light rail fare is only $2 pp so I kind of doubt you could get a cab for $16 RT. I think I would get all checked in and then go to the mall however you get there. That way the suitcases aren't sitting in the car etc.

Have a fun trip!

DW and I came up with a new plan. We can drive to the HHH terminal and park in the short term parking. We would go in, check in our baggage and then go back out to the car. It would maybe cost us 2 bucks total for the first half hour.

We would then drive to MOA for some fun. When done there, we can drive to Park N Fly and leave the car. Their shuttle would drop us off at HHH and we would head straight for security. This is the cheapest way yet!
