Hi All
JoAnn: Same here! Weather in my classroom was 96 Monday and 89 today, then the wind picked up, thunderstorms, and now it's 55! Yes, I live in New England! Now, I'm still and typing report cards!!! 3 more days to go!
Wendy :cool1:

Thx for all the kind notes!! I survived graduation and the heat wave. I can't believe NH had the same weather as us!! That's crazy so early in the summer! BTW, we have a new air conditioner now! :cool1:

:grouphug:

JoAnn,

Glad to hear your air conditioner is back--and that you survived graduation! It has been in the 80's during the daytime and we are definitely having June gloom in the mornings and by evening it is cool again. I would recommend bringing a light jacket or sweatshirt for the evenings. There was a big earthquake (7.1) 92 miles of the coast of Northern CA --Crescent City--so we had a tsunami warning tonight--so hopefully we will get all of the earthquakes "out of our system" before everyone heads west.

Liz

I sure hope so Liz!!! I 've just woken up and was listening to the radio here and heard reports of the earthquake and tsunami warning. The police chief interviewed sounded very cheerful! They said they evacuated a whole community in 20 minutes. That was pretty good going.

I'd like to experience Californian life but I really don't need to experience your nature that first hand honest. :) ( and that includes Jelly fish)

Now I guess by the end of the week all you teachers/ college workers will be swaning around not a care in the world 'getting merry' so I thought if I posted my to do list you'd all be able to muck in and get me ready for my holiday whilst I continue at tha chalkface for the next 5 weeks. Is that ok?
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Seriously guys enjoy your time off if you are anything like us by the end of the school year you'll need the break.
Have Fun :cheer2:

The Tsunami warning was cancelled 30 minutes after it was issued. They said they issued it because at the time they had such little information that they went ahead to be safe rather than sorry. On the news they said the original warning detailed the Tsunami to hit San Pedro by 10pm :sad2: Thankfully, they were cautious as opposed to accurate.

Was it Lucy who emailed me a while back worried about this very thing to which I assured her it was very unlikely to happen?! What do I know :confused3 :rotfl2: !!!!! I thought of her right away. I started laughing and DH asked why...I explained it and he said we jinxed it!!!! Too funny!

Fortunately for me, I hadn't heard anything beyond the earthquake. I guess that's why I tend to NOT watch the news. :sad2: If I remember right though the west coast is suppose to have a high technology tsunami warning system?? BIL and SIL just visited Thiland and spent a holiday at the beach where the Asian tsunami hit. Haven't talked to them, but anxious to hear about their experience. (BIL imports from Thailand, so he is there multiple times a year).

I have to be careful because DS8 worries about everything he hears. He doesn't like when we watch the news in the hotel room because he can hear it and it worries him..... :confused3 He has not heard about the poor family with the 4 year old at Mission Space. He rides that thing over and over and LOVES IT! As an ADHD child we joke that it just "levels him out"!!! :rotfl2:

JoAnn So glad all is well and OVER for you! Now it's "getting merry" time.

Lynn Now it's your turn...... We'll get you through the school year!

I think they were overly cautious, because Crescent City--where this quake was centered 90 some miles off of is where there was a tsunami in 1964 that destroyed 29 city blocks and 11 people lost their lives. I had never even heard of this until the Thailand tsunami and I have lived in CA all of my life--well minus the first 4 months.

Hopefully, the quakes are done and there will be no jellyfish on our cruise!!

DS8 has one more week of school after this. DD4 has her last day of preschool tomorrow--she's going to be sad--but kindergarten is right around the corner :)

What happened on the Space ride at WDW is so sad. I feel for those parents.

Well, I've gotta get the kiddos ready for school.

Liz

OK, guess I haven't heard. What happened at Mission Space at WDW? Mark works for Hewlett Packard and they sponsor Mission Space. They have an employee lounge there above Mission Space where you can look down at everyone while they're in line, along with video of people actually on the ride. After seeing that we decided it would make us sick, so we opted out and just relaxed in the lounge. Anyway, I'm very curious to hear what happened!!!!!

A four year old boy from PA was on the ride with his mother. He "passed out" during the ride. They had paramedics who revived him for a short time before he passed away.

They say the ride was functioning correctly (it was shut down the rest of the day, but is back open now), but are still investigating what happened to him. He did meet the height requirement as well.

Such a sad thing............

That's just horrible! It is a pretty rigorous ride, from what we could see. Looked like some G forces were going on there....

Wow, I read about it too today. Let's all keep the family in our prayers.....

Sorry, I lost it earlier this week, I guess the pressure of the end of the school year and the heat and the graduation was too much! On a positive note, I'm free! :goodvibes

School ended today! :teeth: Now it's time to clean the house and get ready!

"School's Out for Summer"
 :cool1:  :cool1:

Way to go Joann!!! I knew you could do it!!

Now it's time to cheer Lynn on! :cheer2: Only 45 more days until we can all "GET MERRY" together!!! :rotfl2:

I sure miss Lucy this week!! :sad2:

You teachers are cracking me up. I must say, it's only day three of my son's summer vacation and he's already driving me crazy. He so needs routine and he really likes school (for now) so he's not happy to be on summer break. To keep him in routine and because he also asked, we got a summer preparedness book for 2nd grade...well, in three days he already did half the book  ...the kid is gonna kill me. He not gifted or anything along those lines, he just likes school! (So unlike his mother :teeth: ) UGH...do any of you teachers have some suggestions for this poor mom? I'm thinking how will I get through 8 weeks of summer? Fortunately four days after the cruise is over he's back in school and I have arranged for summer activites (art class, Spanish summer camp, pirate treasure camp, swim lessons) for each week of the summer starting June 27th. HELP!

Okay, haven't heard from Lucy or Kathy lately....girls?

Lisa
Send him to stay with me he can go to school for 5 more weeks and fly back with us in July :rotfl2:

Lynn Do you have room for DS11, DS8 and DD6 too??? :rotfl:

Lisa Our local library has a great reading program to challenge the kids all summer. Activiites on the intenet, coded games in the library, reading incentives, and guest activiites. Check that out.....

I'm not sure about Kathy, but I think Lucy is at WDW...Lucky her!!!

I was thinking camps but you already have that covered! How about, take him on day trips to the beach, pool and parks, etc? Then tell him he has to let you get things done on the other days. How does that sound? My kids were like that too. I usually had things lined up all the time and camps.

Thanks for the song! I really feel done today. I went to school to finish cleaning up and NOW I'M READY TO CHILL AND HAVE FUN!!

Sure send them all, the more the merrier, they can spend their summer learning how to use quaint sayings like 'getting merry' :rotfl:

Hi all
Looking for info on what to do before our flight leaves after the cruise. We don't leave until 9pm! any ideas? Any hotels nearby that might offer day room rates? We did that once in Orlando

I have one more day of teaching and then monday is a teacher workshop, Yuck! We are also packign up our whole school since it's closing and they're opening a new one! Which is great since our school is so old, but tons of work!
Wendy

Lisa, definetly check out your local library, YMCA, or town hall. Ours offers week day classes :bounce:

Have you checked out the Wild Animal Park? They have excellent programs for all grade levels.

By the way, did you rock 'n' roll with today's earthquake? We were still in school when it hit. It was amazing, most of the students automatically ducked and covered, but I just stood there, enjoying it!

Hey Wendy....sry about the Monday thing.........we had that last year....what a killer!! You'll be done before u know it!! :cool1:
