I was not too crazy about New Orleans when we were there a few years ago. Maybe because it was Mardi Gras time, I felt the French Quarter was extremely dirty & smelly. There were parts I liked, I guess I need to give it another chance at a different time of year. Bob , sounds like it could be a Dis meet, I would try it again. But my heart and prayers go out to those people, the devastation is unbelievable. I can't even imagine leaving your home and wondering if there is going to be a home standing to go back to.

Lynn - I have never put any of my layouts online, but if my techy DH and kids want to give it a go, I would love to share with all of you. I have done about 6 pgs so far, it is coming along really nice. I may have to use some of your photos too.

Alex leaves in a week, now it is starting to hit me. We are going Thursday night to finish up shopping and Micco and I will take the day off on Tuesday to help her move in.

Wendy - I still get to go to those HS football games because Briana cheers for her HS. Micco and I actually enjoy it, I used to love to go when I was in HS, guess I still do. So I will probably open late on Saturdays in the fall so I can see the games, which start at 10.

We are soooo looking forward to football season here. Even though the Jets looked like crap against the Giants this weekend, it is only pre-season. I think this year may be a better year for us, and hopefully we can be contenders for post season football. Glad to see a lot of us are football fans, I am sure the ranting back and forth will be fun.

Kathy - We are all with you on your diet honey, be strong, know your Dis friends are here, and you will get through!!!!

Lucy - Go for the change, sometimes change is good. My cousin recently changed jobs and was very nervous about it. I talked with her and told her that everything happens for a reason. Well, to make a long story short, she loves her new work, her supervisors are dynamite (she had real jerks for supervisors before) and so are her clients and now she is working more towards her full potential. Good things can happen for you Lucy, I know they can!!!

Well anyway, just wanted to get us back on page 1. Hope all is well and everyone is enjoing BTS. Next week all the kiddies go back!!!! Hopefully business will pick up then too.

Love ya.

It has rained HARD all day and I mean non-stop! Buses were running behind this evening to pick up the kids because there is so much flooding! We could hear it all day on the metal roof of the school.

Just a nice night to curl up with a book and be thankful for what we have. I feel so bad for the people of LA and MS. :guilty:

Hey Jenny! Sorry about the rain! :umbrella:

I have a crazy college story! My grade partner's only daughter went off to Tulane University last weekend. Needless to say, as soon as she was fully packed in, her campus was evacuated. They literally took the rental car they had and drove back to PA in about 24 hours. They were so scared, they just drove out of town! She missed the first day of school and her daughter (who was a college freshman) is now home waiting for the school to be reopened! I've been watching the news and it looks pretty bad! :guilty:

So I guess us college parents have to count our blessings!

Jenny, I hope the rain passes quickly. NO looks pretty bad, how sad.

We've been having an unusual heat wave here, it's been well over a 100 degrees for several days now and our power was out for 9 hours on Saturday...boy was that hot. But I did count my blessings that I wasn't in the situation as those poor people!

that our county and the surrounding county are in a tornado watch.
At least it is just a watch, and not a warning.
I can deal with the watch/warning, knowing we won't go through what
those poor people are going through down south. The news sounds
awful, and just getting worse. It will be a long time before they can
ever get back to normal living. I hope and pray the hurricanes are
over for them.
School is a little better. Thanks for all your wishes. My new job begins
the middle of September. I'll be ok - nothing is as bad as Hurrican Katrina
was to millions of people. It is so sad.
Jenny - hope the rains have gone far away.

Jenny - Hope the rain has gotten better. Please stay safe!

Just watching this whole story on the news breaks my heart. To see that whole city under water is unbelievable, and the bridge that goes across Lake Ponchechrain (sp?). I wonder if NO will ever be the same as those of us who have been there remember it. NO is such a poor city anyway, I wonder if those people will ever recover.

JoAnn-Who knows when those poor kids will get back to college? I am not even sure how bad that part got, the Garden District was so beautiful. I guess we should count our blessings.

Lucy-Hopefully the weather will pass through the NE without any problems.

Stay safe all.

I just spoke to my friend who befriended a New Orleans police officer during our trip (which was in 1997, not 1987 as my post said  ) and he said the situation is worse than they're reporting. He lost everything...his house and everything. The criminals have busted loose out of the jails and are creating havoc throughout the city. He said even the police officers have resorted to looting to get bullets for their service weapons and he also said that they've had to siphon gas out of cars on the street so that the police cars have gas to attempt to partrol as well. He said it's worse than even his worst nightmare. He's such a nice guy, I'm so sad he lost his house. He has a family, I can't imagine how his children are coping. It's so sad! :sad2:

Joann's story of the college student at Tulane reminds me of one year ago. My principal's daughter had just moved into her college in Pensacola. She had to stay during the storm, but after four days of miserable conditions her parents drove down and picked her up. She was so upset that she didn't return to FL, but enrolled in college here. Those poor parents were so worried!

Much better today outside! :sunny:

Did anyone get their Castaway Club CD??? Ours arrived today! And, because John (DS11) has a different last name we got two! One for each family!

Jenny - We got our CD yesterday, what a tease!

Lisa - It really is scary. Think about it, they'r talking about no power for months. It's going to take years to repair that bridge over the lake. It's a very poor area to begin with, how many more will die from disease? Will NO ever be the same as we remember it, I am starting to think not. Most of those people don't even have insurance, how will they rebuild? As an adult, I am finding this whole thing hard to comprehend, imagine how our children feel? It just breaks my heart.

Crazy! I feel really bad for my colleague's daughter and I'm so glad they brought her home on Monday..........can you imagine if they had left her there with a bunch of strangers in the shelters!! I'm thinking that they will do what Jenny's friend did......we'll see! :guilty:

I'm praying for all in the southern areas most afflicted...............glad all are well on our thread!

I'm so glad that you are all safe and well, we have been watching the news on the BBC and it looks awful, there was one older guy nearly in tears and when he was asked to speak he just said send help send food send whatever you've got were gonna need it.
I nearly cried with him.

We don't get sent any Castaway Club things not even a card we have a number which I got over the phone one time but they don't send outside the states so I wanna know what's on it?

Hey Lynn?? Are you back to school, yet? We are, with no air conditioning and our humidity has been unbearable due to the affect of Katrina passing thru our area today...........what a nightmare!.................(but nothing compared to the poor people in New Orleans............ :smooth:

Well...........I know a family that has two! Maybe if you are good, Santa will arrive at your house early!!! ;) Don't sit by the mailbox though, because it's not Christmas, but he is VERY BUSY!! It's baseball and football season at the same time. That makes him REALLY BUSY! :rotfl:

Does everyone who sails DCL get a CC CD, or does that happen after, say, you take two cruises? :confused3 Just wondering.....

After John made fun of me listening to mine?? :rotfl2: No seriously, he is fine with that. It's not exactly Bowling for Soup or Green Day, so it isn't "cool"!!!

Gas prices went sky-high yesterday.....
Hurricane Katrina destroyed so many lives.....
Thank goodness, yes, everyone in my family is well, today.
Well, my friends, what are the gas prices in your area?
ours rose .30 overnight, we are now at $3.00/gallon for the lowest grade
of gas......

Ok after some converting from litres to US gallons and pounds to Dollars, I can tell you you have nothing to worry about, the price of gas here is the equilivent of $6.81/gall. :confused3 :sad1: :confused3

Gas in Europe has always been more expensive....forgive my lack of knowledge on the issue, but why is that?

Our current gas prices are $2.87/gallon but as I told someone this morning, the solid roof over my head and knowing all my loved-ones have their heads on their pillows at night, in my home....well, that's priceless. My heart goes out to the people of NO, who's situation is getting worse by the day. I can't imagine..........
