Hey, Has Anybody Noticed That Taylor Swift Can't Sing?

A buddy of ours makes all the shows but he has family in this area, so he has babysitters. He has actually met Warren and hung out with him after a show. Hubby isn't into the same music as me, so I drag my oldest with me. He was lucky enough to see Gov't Mule open for Dave Matthews a few years ago. He was in heaven. I've seen Angelique Kidjo open for them before, there is a talented, non-blonde woman with a huge voice. (Buddy Guy opened also, half the people there did not know who he was. :confused3 )

I will check that video out, see if I can find it locally first.

Are you a member at traders den or dime a dozen? I was lucky enough to have gotten a few dvds of WSP before they put a stop on them. Have a buddy who lives in Memphis who records NMAS whenever he can. What about the Radiators? I've turned some people onto them, they've been around forever and a day too. Good stuff though.

My husband does all of the downloading. lol

I used to trade a lot until those sites popped up. I stream live shows from a site called PanicStream. You should check that out!

The Radiators are good, as are NMAS! I'm certain there were a ton of folks at DMB who wouldn't know Buddy Guy. DMB brings in from all arenas and genres.

Singer/Songwriter that I'm currently addicted to is Ryan Adams. I saw his last performance at The Fox before he and that band split up. I wish he wasn't so wishy washy, but I guess that adds to his appeal. Strangely enough, he married Mandy Moore, of all people. LOL But.. I believe him to be the Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson of our day. To check out his live stuff, go to www.archive.org. You'll probably find a lot there, too, of folks you like. :)

Taylor Swift definitely cannot sing live, that's for sure. I've been saying that to DH since she came on the scene. I have yet to see her sing live and be decent. I'm not even looking for spectacular, just decent. Kelly Pickler is another one who can't sing live.

I know about archive, a friend from nancies is part of the admin there. I have a friend in K-zoo, Mi who runs RA's fan site (last I knew, it's been over 5 years since I spoken with him). I just can't get into him. Ben Harper is one that I'm starting to listen a bit more to now and the youngest turned me onto Jack Johnson (yeah I know, he's mellow but the lyrics are good and he's yummy to look at.)

I usually stream from sugarmegs. I used to be able to listen to a lot on nugs.net but they aren't as user friendly as they used to be.

You're not Cathy are you?

dude........throw up a tape of yourself and we'll compare it.

I'm not Cathy, sorry. I have a friend that is a Disney fan/Panic fan that I've been hoping to see on here, so that's funny. She's from Kentucky.

I can't get into Ben Harper or Jack Johnson. I've tried. I do like Ben better with his band than solo, though. So I feel ya on that! LOL They are nice to look at, though. :)

Most of the time I end up listening to older stuff. I would have loved to been a young 20something in the 70s. :thumbsup2

There is a lawyer in Georgia, Cathy, who used to seed all kinds of great stuff. If I can remember her trading list name, something tells me you might just drool. Truly a generous person.

It took me a while to appreciate Ben & Jack. I stumbled across a radio show (downloaded it for youngest son's teacher) and I listened to it quite a bit. Just a great vibe and the lyrics are outstanding, again mellow but very poignant.

I wasn't a 20 something in the 70's but my oldest brother was a teen for about half of it. He turned me onto some great music growing up. He's turned to country now, not sure what happened to him. ;)

I'm not even a fan of her... I think she sucks.

He may have turned to country when rock turned to whatever American Idol cranks out these days. (i do watch AI, though) ;)

If you can find a copy of Warren Haynes, Live at the Brandyhouse, get it. It's awesome. Just a little bar show he did solo one night. Granted, Dave Schools and Matt Abts joined in, but it's really good. I don't listen to a lot of Govt Mule, but I love Warren Haynes.

If you know the date, I might already have it. I have three spindles of shows (dvds) that are warren related (abb, dead, gm and solo). So far my favorite is an acoustic show at stubb's in texas. with woody (rip) and matt.

my DD12 was shocked and disappointed when she heard TS sing live a couple of months ago. DD LOVES her and hearing how weak and off-key she was...i could see her face just fall. i think TS is a much better songwriter than singer, and i'm thankful she writes music my DD can listen to-99.99% of what's on the radio is pure trash. i'm willing to cut her some slack on the singing if she'll keep writing clean music.

This! :) And I said this same thing on the CMT thread when she won all those awards. She's a beautiful young lady, very talented with her guitar and song writing, she gives my girls great music to listen to and I don't have to censor it, BUT she cannot sing..... My girls wanted to see her in concert this past year, I can get tickets from work but I still wouldn't take them because she can't sing....... we saw her on Dancing w/the Stars, the girls were horrified by her lack of singing ability, they thought something was wrong with the sound system, or she was sick, nope, that's just how she sounds. We are still fans, we will still buy her music but we all know now that she can't sing...LOL :)

I like bands that write and perform their own music. I don't want to see them dancing or anything on stage other than playing their music and doing it well. I was watching an interview with Paul Simon a little while ago and he said something along the lines of all the dancing and pyrotechnics are only needed if the music can't stand on it's own. Good bands get up there and play. I agree. I don't want to see Dave or jack Johnson up there doing dance moves. I want to hear them playing and singing their music.

speakin' of texas, we were supposed to go to ACL Fest this year, and we had to cancel the night before b/c my daughter had swine flu. :( not that i knew any of the bands anyway... lol i went to the first ACL fest and it was awesome and more roots-based. i feel like it's a mini SXSW now. oh well.

i hope you have an awesome weekend! glad to have (((met))). :goodvibes

Actually the only thing I heard by Ryan was his remake of Oasis's Wonderwall and I loved his version.

He's one of those guys I keep meaning to check out but then never think about it. Other than Dave my favorites are John Mayer, Paul Simon (with and without Art), Norah Jones, and Matt Nathanson.

Yeah, Dave dances from time to time, just not to distract from the music. I think DMB put on the best live shows, but I may be biased :goodvibes

If you ever get a chance to see Matt Nathanson live check it out. He plays smaller venues and tickets are usually around $10 but he has the best stage presence of anyone I have seen. When he interacts with the crowd he really makes it a two way thing.

Aw come on, can you imagine Dave not doing his little skat during Ants?

I will dig and see if I have it. I haven't updated the list in forever. I have a friend who loves the ACL fest, says they know "how to put on a festival." She went to 'roo for the first 4 or 5 years, won't go anymore. I've heard good things about SXSW, really want to go to Coachella.

Nice to have met you also. Don't meet to many others who know those bands outside the music trading site.

:rotfl2: Dude has got some rhythm.

Ehh- not the greatest singer, but certainly not the worst either. The introduced one of her songs on the radio yesterday as "everyone's kid sister--Taylor Swift" That about sums it up- She is too darn cute, and has a great personality not to like, IMO.:cutie:

She has said in interviews that she doesn't feel her live performances are all the great. She is working towards making them better.

I like Taylor Swift's music.

LOL.. I've seen and heard the "best of the best" bomb with live appearances.. No biggie..

I like her music (and singing) and so far she's a good role model - in terms of not being trashy..:thumbsup2

His best moves are saved for Cornbread. I have no idea how he doesn't dislocate a shoulder.

Anything is better than Phish jumping on trampolines. That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in concert.

Although, I did enjoy watching Tom Petty go scurrying inside the magic mushroom he had on stage that one time. :thumbsup2

New music: Avett Brothers - they're pretty good.
