Did you choose that orientation?

I'm curious because so many people seem to think that homosexuals CHOOSE that lifestyle. As a hetero woman, I've never had to make a choice to be heterosexual, so I'm curious as to why people feel that homosexuals make a choice?

Discuss.

Yes, I chose to be heterosexual. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but when I was in my moms womb they sent in a quick check sheet. I chose heterosexual, red hair, and big boned. I'm rethinking the big boned part.

Not looking to start trouble...simply trying to understand why people think one way is a given, and the other way is a choice.

I don't recall making a choice - maybe that's just me though? I guess (to quote a line from an Adam Sandler movie) I've always preferred sausage to taco??? ;) (I hope I don't get points for that - I'm quoting a movie ;) )

I thought about being homosexual for a while...then I decided it was too much of a hassle (what with all the bias and stuff...)

Seriously..NO. OF course not. It wasn't a choice...Sexual orientation IS NOT a choice. It was just the way God wanted ME.

I wonder how many people who "think" they are heterosexual are in fact homosexual. They just grew up thinking they should be a certain way and never explored what they were really feeling inside. I think some of the homophobes are really just afraid of what they really are.

No, I didn't choose, it's the way I am. Now I can believe that there are some people for whom it is a choice. For example, bisexuals may decide it is too much hassle being with someone of the same sex so they decide to be heterosexual. BTW, I don't believe sexuality is necessarily an either/or thing....I think there is a contiuum and there are some on one side, some on the other, the rest in between somewhere. So, the 'in-betweens' could easily decide to go one way or the other but for the folks on either end - no, not a choice. Hmmmm.....maybe those people who insist it is a choice are the ones in the middle.

I'm actually a gay man living in a womans body and loving every minute of it.

Duh, it's only a choice if you're going away from the norm.

We are all created hetero. Satan and liberal Democrats run around to our schools and indoctrinate our children to believe that they can choose to go down the path to sin and damnation. If they weren't indoctrinated, we would all be hetero.

Really.

No.

Stop laughing at me...

Seriously though, I think the "choice" logic for some goes something like this:

We all choose to be in relationships with others. So although you may be attracted to someone of the same sex, you CHOSE to act on that attraction. You chose to be homosexual. Therefore, because of your choice, I am entitled to look down upon you as a wayward sinner.

Whatever.

Nope. I didn't choose to be heterosexual anymore than I chose to be right-handed.

Hmm, I was a late bloomer. I didn't decide until the first day of 1st grade when I saw that cute little blond boy.

Hetero here....Nope, I sure didn't choose but I like the way it turned out:banana: Good grief, Woman...what are you doing? You're going to get yourself roasted

I've wondered this too. Sometimes I think that people who are homophobic think that homosexuals are going to try to convert them or something. Just insane.

I've never thought being a heterosexual or a homosexual was a choice. It's just what we are.

I hope this does not turn ugly, and realize that is not your intention..

I don't know is my answer. I am a heterosexual woman, and I never thought of it. Does that make it odd for me? Don't know, don't care.

You know, I always thought this was a special brand of obnoxious. I've heard so many homophobes say, "those people just need to stay away from me." As though you're so irresistable that nobody can resist coming on to you. WTH?!?

Hmm could this be as offensive as asking a Homosexual if he or she choose? As many will tell you they didn't have a choice. They just knew.

But then again, this thread is could be filed in the Threads I wished I never opened thread. :lmao:
