He's torturing her cats....serious thread

Good grief, the OP came here for advice and some of you are raking her over the coals.

First of all, she has made it clear that she is not an animal person and thus very inexperienced in the matter. She doesn't know what to do and came to you for advice. Please consider educating her kindly instead of bashing her. It isn't necessary and it does nothing to help the situation. Remember, the OP is the good guy here; she is trying to HELP. She is scared of cats. She isn't crazy about them, but still feels bad for them and is desperate for a solution. This makes her a good person!!!! We're all on the same side people! So let's stop with the insults. It's NOT helping the cats you claim to be so worried about!

Second of all, not being an animal person, for all she knows it is perfectly safe to let a cat free. Most people who are inexperienced when it comes to animal care have no idea that it is unsafe to let a cat loose in the wild. They assume that because cats evolved in the wild that domesticated cats can be set free and be ok. If you aren't used to being around animals, how do you know otherwise unless somebody (hopefully a nice person) educates you? Frankly, given her fear and dislike of cats, I find that her attempt to help reflects positively on her character.

Finally, in case some of you haven't noticed, she is changing her game plan thanks to the advice she has received on this thread. She has agreed to call her mother. Perhaps now that she has received good advice she will know that she can probably find foster care for her mother's cats. Not being a cat person, she probably had no idea of this until now. Now she does. She seems to have learned what she needed to learn just fine. She's a normal, intelligent person who understands English; she didn't need insulted and bashed to get the point across.

And please, to those of you who can't grasp her fear of cats, imagine how you'd feel if I asked you to keep my snakes for six months. I'm guessing that many people would rather see them set out into the wild than to keep them in their homes. Fear IS a valid "excuse" for not keeping them, not that she even needs one. As a cat lover, I cannot understand this fear. But an entomologist probably wouldn't understand my fear of ants. Everybody has their quirks and fears, it doesn't make them bad people for crying out loud!

If you guys really care and really want to help these cats, then PLEASE be kind and helpful to the ONLY PERSON who is looking out for their best interest.

Well said! :thumbsup2

Good luck OP! Please keep us posted.

The first large number of posts were supportive. People started getting annoyed when the OP continually stated that she couldn't/wouldn't call the SPCA.

I'm happy to see that OP finally did call the SPCA and no kill shelters.

Good luck OP.

OP- where are you in MA? Where are the cats? I know of a shelter near my home that has several people who foster cats, and I'm sure there are other shelters around that would help try to find a temporary solution for your mom till she moves back into an apartment. I currently have 2 cats and I am fostering 1 more, and while I REALLY am not looking for more, I would do what I can to find a spot for them. Please PM me if you don't have any luck calling shelters.

These cats are helpless animals, who rely on their owners/caregivers to care for them, and do not deserve this kind of treatment. In fact, abuse of animals like this is an indicator of some psychological problems... your uncle scares me. Anyone who derives entertainment from causing another living being pain and suffering needs help. And I would report him, animal abuse is a CRIME! I know this seems overwhelming, but I bet by just Googling animal shelters near you and getting on the phone you can make a big difference... and feel a lot better about the situation.

And please, don't ever let your uncle be in a caregiver position over any other living creature again.

I don't care HOW squeamish you are (and I'm not trying to be mean to you), you really SHOULD take those cats from him. I know I would; well, actually, they never would have MADE it to someone who I *know* does drugs and isn't right in the head. This whole situation seems a little sketchy; if your mom and brother love them THAT much they really should have made sure they were somewhere safe before leaving them.

This, of course, is all just my opinion; I find it reprehensible that someone could be so horrible to defenseless animals like that.

I forgot to tell you OP, that my dd works for the humane society where we live and they sometimes take in animals whose families have a situation where they cannot keep their pets. I'm not sure how much they charge or if they charge, but the people get their pets back and they can even visit them while they are there. Sometimes people are moving or their landlord says they cannot have the pet anymore and they need to move to keep the pet. In the meantime, they go to the shelter.

After reading this thread, I saw this on the news ...

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/video/23287489/index.html

The search is on for the person or persons who are torturing and killing cats

That story made me sick... reminds me of the guy in Worcester who killed a cat by beating it to death (in front of kids, no less) because he said that he felt threatened by it... witnesses said the cat didn't do anything. I just don't get it. I really don't.

He lives in Massachuttes . I live in NY . It's too far. I'm screamish with most things...cats are just a part of the bunch. If they were kittens I would take them in but they are very big full grown cats. I can't deal with that. I'd be scared in my own home .

where is Mass does he live? I am in Ma and I will get them from him, if I am close enough?

Yeah, where in MA? I also live in MA and Tigger and I apparently live on opposite ends of the state so one of us should be decently close.

The really scary thing here is that a very high percentage of animal abusers go on to human abuse and crime.
I have to say that I've been watching the news here in Mass as well. Those poor cats in Quincy. I can't imagine what kind of person (and I use that term very loosely) would do things like that to anothe living creature.
And this is why my three cats never go outside. They are so much safer in the house. They don't seem to mind it much...it's the life they are used to.

I really hope the OP finds a solution, and quickly. Those cats don't have much more time.

Is the OP for real? I can't imagine ANY decent human being standing by knowing these animals are being tortured and abused without doing ANYTHING unless prompted by a bunch of strangers on the freakin INTERNET!

I see lots of bashing of the OP, and I think it is pathetic. She came here to get advice. She acted on that advice, and in less than an hour had found an alternative and tried to call her mom. Why can't ya'll understand that she is doing the best she can at 11:00 at night. From the post, she had just found out about this situation THAT EVENING... hence her promise to send money in the morning to try and appease the uncle, and help out the cats. All she can do is all she can do!!

Many New Englanders responded to this post, but only two offered her an alternative... to come and get the cats, and foster them until her mom can take them back. It's easy to criticize, but not as easy to actually do something helpful.

PLEASE call the SPCA immediately. They can help find a foster family to keep the cats until your Mom's house is ready. This whole thing makes me sick to my stomach  and very angry!

I can't believe that people can do such things to animals.

You guys are awesome. What a nice thing to offer. The SPCA is a "kill" shelter. The cats would have a better chance escaping.

I would get the cats out of there today asap. Pay someone, board them, whatever, but your uncle is serious a sick mf. Personally I'd report him, but no matter what get those poor kitties out and don't release them outside. If you can take them temporarily, do it. My mom has always said she is scared of cats, but when I go out of town she feeds my 2 & changes the litter and once she has done it a couple times she likes them. Most housecats aren't aggressive, esp if they are fixed and are easy to care for IMO. I also have 2 bedrooms, 2 kids, and 2 cats-the cats really don't take up that much space. I would def tell your mom, I'd be devasted if someone was hurting my cats and I wasn't told about it to stop it.

reading the OP, I think there are much more issues going on along with the cats.

Im back you guys...I have a small update. I told my mom everything that my uncle's been doing to them. She was beyond LIVID. She didnt check her voicemail and i knew she didnt because she didnt call me. I had to call her at her JOB and tell her :scared1: To say she was livid would've been a understatement! I heard her voice wavering and she tried to contain herself but her boss is right in the next room to her office. She left my uncle a very nasty voicemail message telling him she's going to get her cats she dont care if she has to sleep in her car and oh boy...the explicitives! She knows my uncle wants money for drugs...she said " im going to give you some money and i want you to snort it shoot it up and die you ***** . You have no business hurting my cats they dont do anything to anybody " ETC. It was REALLY bad that's when she started crying . :sad2:

I tried to hint to her that the cats were being abused without blatantly saying it but she just was'nt getting it...I finally had to tell her look he's pouring hot sauce on them and sticking them in the freezer to hear them scream :scared1:

My uncle is REALLY mad right now i just hope he doesnt get the voicemail and decide to teach my mom a "lesson" by doing something to the cats before she's able to get there. Ive been calling diffrent shelters and emailing them to find a place for them. My mom said if all else fails she will pay to board them today.
