On our recent trip we were looking forward to trying a Hersheys chocolate bar knowing how popular they are. We both hated it so much we only ate one piece each! It had a really strange flavour and a funny aftertaste....do you think we got an "off" bar or are they an acquired taste?

Being a chocolate lover I was a bit disappointed! Does anyone else eat them?

Hi,
No i do not think you had a bad bar it really is not nice chocolate my children hate hersheys kisses.

I think you would find Hershey's chocolate to be an acquired taste. Here in the U.S. we're all practically raised on the stuff. In fact, I prefer it to other , creamier chocolates. but I have to admit, hershey's is waxy, hard and cocoa-y tasting. yumm....I learned the hard way when we went out of the country that it's hard to find outside the U.S. When we spent a week in England, i brought my own supply, haha. You can have the Dove, Cadbury, Toblerone, even Godiva. Just hand over the Hershey bars and nobody gets hurt!

I will say, ya'll have the BEST CHEESE I have ever tasted. DH & I are saving up to come back next spring for more cheese( and castles)

LOL! Thats what I thought too! Mine tasted of "off cheese" or old socks or sour cream....YUK. Unfortunately, that is what they are supposed to taste like apparantly!

We have long wised up however, and now bring a big Cadburys Choklit stash from home to last the holiday!!

It is an aquired taste. Don't mean to be rude, but it tastes of sick.

Each to their own. See the looks you get when you ask for vinegar for chips (fries) :rotfl2:

I like them, but I usually only eat candy around Halloween, when the kids have their loot in the house and the temptation is too great. We also use them to make smores.

The next time you come over, go to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania - maybe they can convince you! (I live about 2 hrs away from it, and it's a great place to go for a day or two or three - it's an amusement park with some great roller coasters.)

Now Hershey's Special Dark bars are an acquired taste...

I'm not at all fussed on American chocolate, but I like all the other food out there :sunny:

I am an American who is married to an Englishman. When I first moved to Europe to Geneva I could not wait to eat loads of loads of chocolate. I had a Nestle Crucnh bar and never had another one again. I was so surprised to find out that each country uses it's 'home chocolate' for the same product. When I moved to England I almost stopped eating chocolate altogther. I just can't acquire the taste for Cadbury.

But for some of you to say Hershey's taste like vomit, etc. is just a bit over the top. It is just different than what you are used to.

All I have to say is Marmite (which unfortunately my two year old adores).

I don't like Marmite either, and I go through phases with Cadbury's and Nestle.

At the moment I'm loving Tesco's 'Finest' Triple Chocolate Cookies! I dread to think the amount of butter, etc. they use in them!

No offence mean't, but that's just what it tastes like to me. Personally I love UK Mars Bars, but also know they are an aquired taste. I also hate Marmite.
BUT I just love the buffets over there!

When I was little I could only manage eating Mars Bars when they were cut up into slices/chunks - took me ages to be able to handle full bites of the stuff!

I don't like Hershey bars either, but I think the reason we generally don't like them is because our chocolate isn't good quality. It's sweetened enormously and has a very low cocoa solid content. I don't know what cocoa content Hershey's have but maybe they're higher than ours?

I couldn't eat a Mars bar I'm afraid, but give me some Green and Black's organic chocolate and I'm anybodies!!!

I love Hershey's - but then I hate Cadbury's chocolate - too sweet and sickly! I have family in NY - they think that my love of Hershey's is hysterical - they all hate it - but then they do love Cadbury's - we have to send the Creme Eggs by the boxload.

Hiya

Not keen on the regular Hershey bars but I loove Cookies & Cream, Yummmy.

Hershey's I really really don't like! But DH like it!

Now Marmite, you are talking!!!!

Someone brought back some hersheys kisses into work. Nobody liked them and a few people said they tasted of cheese but needless to say they all got eaten :confused3

I love cadburys and Galaxy chocs and when DH wants to treat me i love the summer collection from Thorntons. You should try these they are delish :cheer2:And as for marmite i always start my day off with it and DD loves it too :teeth: DH hates it

I wouldn't necessarily say that Hershey's are a better quality than our chocolates.

Green & Black's do organic, dark chocolate - I'm not really fussed on it but it's different from Hershey's.

I love Hershey bars and Marmite, not together tho!! :)
