W live an hour away from Hershey and have been there many times. The park is great and as many said there is also chocolate world and a zoo. Lancaster is not too far. There is lots of outlet shopping in Lancaster. Some in Hershey, but not much. Harrisburg is really close and has the Whittaker Center (sp???) fun science center for kids with Imax. and other fun things to do.

I have stayed at the Blue/Green Resort in Hershey. They have an indoor pool and a small game room. The only negative thing I have to say is they have the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept on. They say they are pillow top, but I found the pull out couch was more comfortable. You might want to bring something extra.

I saw a few complaints about the bed at Trip advisor. Wow. You would think they be better than that, especially if they say Pillow top.

I will have to remember that.

We visited Hershey and Lancaster last June from CO, though we used to go every summer when we lived in NJ. One thing I noted after many trips to WDW and DL, the hub and spokes layout of the Disney parks really was genius. We found the layout of HP not as well planned. Still had a great time, though.

If you decide to visit Lancaster, there is a minor league baseball team there if you are into baseball (http://lancasterbarnstormers.com/index.cfm). We were also directed to a BBQ restaurant and brewpub in Manheim that we really enjoyed called JoBoy's (http://www.joboysbrewpub.com/). Try the smoked cabbage.

Another favorite going back to our first visit to HP is The Friendly Rising Sun restaurant in Campbelltown (http://risingsunrestaurant.com/default.aspx). This place should be on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. It is a total dive but the food rocks and is dirt cheap. We would take a break during the middle of the day and head there for lunch. Nothing beat the heat like a frosty mug of Yuengling Lager for about $1.50.
