Local here.
The hotels in Hershey proper fill up pretty fast in the summer. If you work the perimeter, you may have more success.
There are two or three new hotels, just built within the last year, which are all about the same distance to the park. They are all about 20 minutes drive.
Lickdale is a small town, there are two fairly new hotels there. The others are listed as Harrisburg but you want to stay east of Harrisburg; Grantville is another of the towns close to Hershey. Route 422, 39, 322, 743 are the main roads in and out of Hershey and you'll find many hotels, both chain and locally owned on them. Interstate 81 runs north, south, and there are two and really three exits that service Hershey travellers and there are lots of hotels at each of these exits.
We have season passes. This is the 100th anniversary of the park. There are fireworks every Saturday night and many extras for the celebration. They have just opened a four acre water park within the park which can accomodate 1000 people. It's included in your general park admission.
The entertainment within the park is special this year, lots of oldies groups playing in the different pavilions. Chocolate World is a lot of fun and it's free, except for the 3D movie which has an extra admission charge.
Hershey Park is my second favorite park. It's clean. The rides are extremely well maintained as is the park. You won't find any of the biggest, fastest, highest, record setting coasters, but that's not Hershey's thing. The rides are plenty thrilling....many wooden coasters, the Great Bear, Lightning Racer, all really good rides, plus plenty for the kids.
I was at Six Flags Great Adventure last week on a class trip, and comparatively speaking, Hershey is a bargain. You can buy discounted tickets at the local Giant food stores. You can also find those money off soda cans, but I'm pretty sure the Giant price is the best price. There are other deals, but they change from season to season.
Your park admission also gets you into ZooAmerica which is a walk through zoo with animals native to the America. It's not AK, but it's a really nice and educational diversion for the kids in the middle of the afternoon.
Hope you enjoy Hershey Park and your visit. I know plenty of people from Orlando who make it their vacation destination.
