Hi All!

DH and I would like to take our kids (DD8 & DS5) to Hershey Park this summer. I've looked at their website and tried to get quotes for the Hershey Lodge, but it looks like there is no availability during August, when we'd like to go. Has anyone gone recently and stayed "offsite" and liked the hotel? We'd prefer to stay as close as possible.

Thanks for any info!! :goodvibes

we went there about 6 years ago we live in pa (about 41/2 hour drive from there) it is really nice at the lodge but the park is not the greatest i guess i just like disney too much. once you have been to disney all other parks are not as good.

i'm sure others will agree
other parks are not as clean or freindly and not as big

don't get me wrong you should like the park but don't plain on a supper great park because that it is not i's also about a day total to cover it all encludeing the museum and the garden's and zoo

I can't help you with hotel choices. I just wanted to say that I like Hershey Park. It's one of my favorite non Disney parks. Good luck finding a place. I'm sure somebody on here will be able to help you.

I enjoy it as well. I've never stayed in the hotels (aunt lives near the park) so I can't help the OP there. But you'll have a great time!

subscribing because we are heading there the last weekend in July. DS asked to go there for his birthday since we arent doing WDW this year.

We stayed at plain old Best Western and it was very nice. It was not super close to the park, but it was no problem at all to drive and park each day. We absolutely LOVED Hershey Park and found it to be spotlessly clean and beautifully landscaped.

All of our family usually stays at the Country Inn and Suites, it is about 7 miles out of town, clean, and fairly cheap compared to others in the area.

I think it was the Days Inn across the street that we stayed at last year. It was totally fine, nice indoor pool (small but clean), adequate rooms and a nice continental breakfast. Not a ton of frills but perfect for a short stay.

I am going to Hershey in July and have the same question. If you do a search for Hershey you will find some threads with a lot of info. Two hotels people seem to recommend are the Country Inn and Suites and the White Rose Motel. I have been looking at the Super 8 on Allentown Blvd because the price is a lot better and it says it is only 5 miles from the park but I am having a really hard time finding a lot of info on it. I think it is because it is a fairly new hotel that just opened in the last year or two. I'm not sure if it took over another existing hotel or was built as a brand new hotel though. Any Hershey locals or frequent visitors have info on this Super 8?

Thank you so much for all of the responses! I had no idea that the Hershey properties weren't right next to the park.

I really appreciate the hotel suggestions. I will be checking them out!

And I also appreciate the comparisons to Disney. In my heart, I know there's nothing out there as good as Disney...but from what I remember from a few years ago - Hershey is WAY better than Great Adventure (Jackson, NJ) as far as cleanliness and upkeep. :thumbsup2

We're actually using this Hershey trip as a diversion for our kids, since they think we're not going to WDW this year (but we're surprising them in November  )

Thanks again for all the help!

We are planning to go to Hershey Easter weekend. I went to tripadvisor.com, and read alot of reviews. Actually, that is how I spent yesterday morning.

We decided on Sheraton-4 points. It is about 8 miles from the park entrance. Trip Advisor, had a lot of bad reviews of the Howard Johnson's.

Once we are positive that weather is going to cooperate, and we are definately going, I plan on going to priceline. Last night when I looked, priceline had a 4 star, for $47/night.

As for the park----We enjoy it. No, it is not as big as others, but felt it was very clean, and a nice time. We have only been for the Christmas, and Halloween weekends, so all the rides were not open.

I've only stayed at the Lodge (yes, offsite, but the shuttle is great!), but the park is very well maintained, and the employees are very helpful and friendly. I left my cell phone on the shuttle once, and someone gave it to the bus driver, and he really went out of his way to find me and get it back. I've left strollers with our stuff in them, never fearing things would be stolen.

We're in NJ, and drive 3 hours to Hershey. I have 5 children, and have never even taken them to Six Flags!

I've never used Priceline. Is that really a price you can get??? That's amazing!!!

I checked out www.haveanicestay.com, which compares a lot of hotels. I really like the Country Inn & Suites and the White Rose Motel. They look so quaint and personal.

Another Herhey Park fan here. I went there alot growing up. I performed there once a summer with my dance group and my Uncle had his company picnic there once a year (which was amazing since the park was closed to everyone except the company).

I love it there, it is very clean and the rides are fun, you will love it!!

Don't forget to look at Expedia (and other such sites) too. I was looking recently and when the site said they had no availability expedia did.

Myst

We are going in August and staying at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott. It will be our first time staying there. Super close to the park

We love Hershey!!

Have never stayed anywhere but the Hershey Lodge, usually with husband's trade show. My family LOVES Hershye Park, no it is not WDW but then we all wouldnt want to go back would we? Hershey Park is a great family park, with cool roller coasters and very clean and the staff is wonderful. The Lodge is not close to the Park but they do offer shuttle service (we usally just drive) I would compare it with having to take a bus to a park in WDW though not long at all.

We wanted an additional night at the Lodge and it kept telling us non were available so we waited until we met up with DH and then he asked and there was an opening. They do tons of conventions and trade shows there so sometimes people book for the convention and then cancel. So I would call and then keep trying closer to your date if that is really where you want to stay.

DH is headed for a trade show today but bummer park isnt open yet!!!

I don't know how I missed this thread!!LOL We are huge Hershey Park fans. We are planning our trip now. We really love staying at Hershey Lodge. We always ask for a tower room. From our experience they just seem nicer. Also they are in the main building close to the restaurants. We have also stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn. It is not too far. On the same road as the park but I think it is considered Hummelstown. Anyway it has always been really clean and nice. Decent rates and some rates you can get breakfast included. The park itself is so clean and the people working there have always been so friendly. There are so many rides for all age groups. The kids really love it. We love it so much DH has created a trip planning site and forums like this one for Hershey!(shameless plug LOL;) ) The links in my siggy.
