Here's my take on the noise at POP

Sorry but that statement just doesn't make any sense. What the poster was talking about was IF a child was screaming in the next room, you would hear it no matter what resort you were staying in. If by your statement you are implying that during your two week trip there were screaming kids and the room was so soundproofed that you didn't hear them, that would be ridiculous. It wasn't POP's fault the kid was screaming.

The point is that there ARE resorts that have thicker walls. And POP definitely is more kid oriented than other resorts. So, obviously the resorts with less kids, are generally quieter. Pop was the only resort so far that we've had noise issues with.

Man I just dont get this. I don't care where you stay, if the people next to you are yelling and screaming, of course you will hear them. That is not a room problem, that is rude and inconsiderate guests.

The comment about why would a child be screamming at 1 am, what are the parents doing is totally uncalled for. There could be any number of reasons that the child would be screaming (sick, nightmare, fell out of bed) and to imply that the parents are not doing anything is an insult to parents.

If you are worried about noise in a hotel/motel, you better get use to it. IF the neighbours are noisy, then you will hear them.

Also a food court is a big cafeteria. Have you ever been in a cafeteria that is quiet??

A child was screaming OUTSIDE! And when looking outside, there was not a parent in sight, so now what? A further more, yes, I have been in food courts during "peak times" at a Disney resort that was very relaxed and not noisy and hectic. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, so get used to that.

That is a ridiculous statement. You can't always control if and or when your child screams!

There's no reason for it being at 1am. Obviously people are asleep and it's just inconsiderate. Especially when the child is left alone. I could understand if something was being done to comfort them, but there was none of that.

Exactly! We were down the shore last month and twice during the night the kid next door was screaming. They left the next day (thank God). I don't think the POP is any different from any other resort/hotel when it comes to noise. I think it's the location.

Thank you! Obviously we wouldn't go to Disney if kids were an issue, but it bothers us when nothing is being done about it. And I agree about it being location. Some resorts are more "kid oriented" than others. Hence why POR was quieter (for obvious reasons) than Pop.

If I saw a child alone outside at 1 am I would have called someone for sure, not just closed my curtains and done nothing. That is NOT a normal occurance at Pop or anyplace else, and very different than what was originally complained about.

Everyone does have their own opinion and I like to hear the positive and the negatives. What I don't like is hearing the judgemental tone about other folks parenting skills. I guess I better pack the whips and ball-gag so my autistic 4 year old doesn't accidentally squeal too loud once or twice. I find we never can know what other people's situations are, so it's best not to assume.

It always amazes me the people who go to do Disney and want relaxation and quiet. If I wanted that I'd be heading to a beach or island somewhere, not to WDW and certainly not to a value resort.

No a sound machine won't block that out but you would hear that at ANY hotel.

I don't know....we stayed at POFQ in connecting rooms and my 3 year old nephew threw a full blown tantrum early one morning because he just did not want to get dressed. My mom and I never heard him in our room, we were sleeping at the time and my mom is a light sleeper. My SIL said she couldn't believe we didnt hear him.

We never heard them the whole trip at all. Not their TV, not their phone ringing, not their toilet flushing, NADA.

I do bring a sound machine with me, I use one at home and am so used to it, I can't sleep without one now, it blocks out alot of noise, but even when it wasn't on, I could not hear anything going on outside our room. We were even pretty close to the pool and never heard noises from there either.

Oh by the way was at POP in 04, 50 section bottom floor facing pool, no noise, will be in POP in 4 days hope to have the same experence.

We decided to try a value resort because we heard so many good things about it. There are much more negative opinions about it now than when we first booked it.

I find it amazing that people who don't like judgemental tones are just as judgemental. And it's amazing that apparently people can't even have their own opinions anymore. Isn't that what these boards are for?

Oh yes, and DBF walked outside to see and then saw the parents walking about 200 feet in front of the child, leaving him there. We did not simply ignore him and close our curtains. That's being judgemental, wouldn't you say? I didn't realize everyone should explain every detail of their situation. And if it wasn't clear, why not just ask?

Just got back on Tue. from a 4 night stay. We were on 2nd floor 60's away from the pool. We could hear every flush, showers, people walking above and talking.
One evening I could clearly hear a little boy in the shower next door talking about his visit with Mickey. Food court was loud. Loud music playing at the resort. I much prefered All Star Movies. POP just wasn't relaxing at all.

Oh, btw...we finally solved the kids' yelling issue....I had my dd say something in a moderatly loud voice. I then stood right next to the wall, and said to her.."Honey, I know you're upset, but please, use your indoor voice. There are others here and they don't want to hear all about it. Have some courtesy." There was very little noise from the next door neighbors for the next 3 days!!

This is genius...sheer genius! I'll have to remember to do this next time we have a problem with loud kids next door.

If it was unclear, why not just ask instead of assuming a situation? It's great that you were able to have 10 nights at the Pop, in July of all times, without hearing other noise. I wish we had the same experience.

I was responding to how "no" a sound machine will not fix all the problems. And for me personally, a sound machine is just more noise. There are just some things a sound machine would not, or could not block out.

OK. There are SOME parents out there who let their children do or say whatever and whenever they want. We can all agree with that. I've seen it several times. While there are reasons why children would scream in the middle of the night (nightmare, falling, etc.) and that is understandable, there are those children who will scream or slam doors for the fun of it. During my recent experience, I never heard anything from the parents next door trying to comfort them for whatever reason or try to calm them down. But then again, they were not even courteous enough to obey the "no smoking" rule outside their door. Go figure. The POP is more child-oriented than, say POR, and that is why I made the decision to change. I just would like a little common courtesy, especially at hotels.

In future renditions the child will have a beer and a cigarette.

Anyway, back on topic I can see how Pop would be louder than other resorts. It definitely appeals to families with small children. It was a big reason I switched to Pop from Shades of Green. SoG is just SO quiet that I could just imagine my son getting loud and everyone noticing. I thought Pop looked like a place that could handle little kids. We actually try to hang out at places that are louder, in case DS does make some noise. No quiet restaurants for us!
