We are heading to WDW the last week of June, staying offsite (but hopefully in a DTD hotel). Spending 3 days in the parks. Plan to eat breakfast in the room and hit the parks at rope drop.

Thinking maybe we'd get a snack to share late morning - some pastry type of thing. Then have a late lunch in the parks - counter service.

We'd be heading back to the hotel to get out of the afternoon heat and relax. Then I'm thinking of eating offsite before returning to the parks. Then we could have another snack/dessert.

Any suggestions for lunch?

Counter service lunches...hmmmm....

Animal Kingdom: Flame Tree Barbecue is pretty good...but if you're into Asian food, Yak & Yeti Counter Service is decent.

Epcot: Most of the pavilions around the World Showcase have a counter service location - we like fish & chips from the UK. Sunshine Seasons in Future World is pretty good, though, with lots of different choices.

Magic Kingdom: Columbia Harbor has some good seafood choices; Pecos Bill's has some burgers & stuff with a fantastic "fixin's" bar....

Hollywood Studios: I don't care for any of the counter service restaurants here, so can't make any choices.

Hollywood studios try the Starring Rolls ham sandwich---it is huge and delicious. Mousesavers.com has some DTD hotel deals with kids eat free that you might want to check out.

The funnel cakes at both Epcot and the Magic Kingdom make great snacks as does anything at the pastry shop in France. In fact the same pastry shop offers some nice sandwiches.

My family does breakfast in the room and gets to the park early too :thumbsup2 What I've found though is that we are way too hungry for just a snack mid-morning and can not wait for lunch until late in the afternoon. Of course, me and the kids are sensitive to sugar and my husband is just always hungry ;) But we find that we like to get to the counter service spot by 11:30 to avoid the rush and get a nice meal. We will then have a snack in the park before we leave (like a dole whip or ice cream on the way out about 1:30). We also have a snack at the pool in the afternoon (3:30 - fruit, nuts, chips!) and then we will have dinner either at a park or at the resort and that all depends on the time of our dinner ADR or when we finally get out of the pool!

Just watch out though because the hunger really creeps up on people and since everyone is really excited to be at Disney, you sometimes forget that is what is making you cranky. If breakfast at the resort room is light, you really want to get a filling meal in earlier.

Smart way to save money!!!!

Sunshine Seasons in Epcot has a lot....

I also like Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom

:)

couldnt agree more...........i would say ABC commissary is the best of the worst

Hmmm...counter service lunch...

MK: I can't believe I'm saying this, but Cosmic Ray's was an unexpected great experience on our Jan 2011 trip. We went at opening, so the restaurant was nearly empty and the food was hot and fresh. The roast chicken and green beans were terrific! We also like Pecos Bills for the fixin's bar and Columbia Harbor House for the different food selections and the quiet upstairs eating area.

AK: Flame Tree...and I'm a North Carolinian who is picky about her BBQ. I don't like the sauces (I prefer the eastern NC vinegar-based sauce...picky, remember? ;)) but the BBQ itself is great. And the setting---gorgeous! What a beautiful place to relax!!

Epcot: Tangierine Cafe in Morocco. This is the food that I crave when I'm away from WDW. I want a shawarma platter NOW! :lovestruc

DHS: Well...I tend to agree with the others that have posted that DHS counter service is not great. At all. The best of the worst for me would be Backlot Express (the whole meal in January was 'eh') or Pizza Planet (not terrible.)

Everyone always complains about HS, but we've either had really good luck there or we're not very picky.

Fairfax Fare has large combo plates you can share and we think it is comparable to Flame Tree in AK. We also like Min and Bill's Dockside because it's different....pretzel dogs and Italian Sausage hoagie wraps. AND Starring Rolls has really good sandwiches.

Check out the dining tab on the bar above and look at the menus from all the restaurants to see what your family might enjoy!

sharonabe, I'm going to try Fairfax Fare next time I'm in DHS. Thanks for the suggestion!

Make sure you get to the counters early for lunch; during the summer months, the lines are long!!!
Here are our favs (others may disagree, but this our plan)
Breakfast in each day, except Cape May Cafe charachter breakfast (no lunch)

Lunch (MK)
-Pecos Bills (1st choice, good selections) or Cosmic Rays
-Epcot-Electric Umbrella or the counter service in China.
-Studios- very light breakfst (toast or bars), then a sit down lunch at Brown Derby (we are huge fans of the cobb salad; my daughter and share and we're still stuffed). Second choice if we're tight on money- Backlot Express (but that's def. not may fav. counter service placein WDW).
-Ak- Due to our park plan, we always end up at Tusker House. There's probably a better choice.

Good idea to maybe flip the lunch and snack around. I could see us all getting hungry for lunch by 11...then we'd beat the crowds too. Thanks!!!

Ha Ha I promise I'm a lover of 99.99% of all things Disney, but, kindof going off topic here, but the all time worst, most overpriced meal we ever had as a family was at Sci-Fi at the studios. The second worst was the ABC Commissary. We all laugh and roll our eyes when we walk by these places now. And, I must say we are a family of non-picky "healthy" eaters. :rotfl:
