we are taking DD 14's DF along. through a twist of fate we are also taking DF's 12 year old sister as far as the orlando airport where her grandmother is picking her up for the week. she lives about 2 hours south of WDW. then she will return with us. we would like to have her gram bring her to our resort a day early so she can get at least one day in the parks with the other kids. problem is, that will possibly create a problem with the return trip to the airport. will magical express allow the extra person??? i doubt anyone has had this experience before but i thought it wont hurt to ask.

Yes, as long as she is on your room reservation. If she is not on your reservation, she cannot ride DME.

dudspizza is correct. The only people who can ride DME are people who are named on the reservation at a WDW resort.

So unless you are staying at a resort where 5 people can (legally) stay in a room, the friend's sister won't be issued a bus voucher to board the DME bus for the way back to the airport, since she won't be able to be named on the reservation for the last day or 2. In that case, if you can't (legally) fit 5 in your room, she can't ride the DME bus back to the airport.

Can't they by the Mears ticket

Good question. I would doubt it, as there's no Mears desk at the resorts.

I know that you can't reserve/pay for a Mears ride FROM the airport to a WDW resort in advance, but at the airport itself you can walk up to the Mears desk, pay for a ride, and basically get placed on a DME bus.

for anyone else who may have this come up, i got an answer to this problem. i must call the desk the day before we leave and have the child added to the room only. then call ME and they will pull up the res. and print a voucher for her. they also said that even if there is a glitch no one is going to leave an 11 year old girl standing on the curb while everyone else is off to the airport. one way or another she will be allowed on the bus.

This is sort of what I said. You can add her to the room reservation, but if your resort doesn't allow 5 people per room then this just won't be possible.

Also, if on a package, she would have to have the same package components.

they said nothing about package components when they explained it.

No, but they didn't say it was room-only, either. And in the future, someone else could have the same question, and come across this thread...and they may have package components.

sorry, what i meant to say was, they told me i only had to add her to the room. they did not say i had to add her to dining or tickets?

The person you talked to may not have explicitly said it, but at least with the Disney Dining Plan, that's the way it works. The DDP is all or nothing. All guests in a room are on the DDP for length of stay, or no one is on the DDP at all.

I dont know if you left yet for Disney but we had a similar situation to us and I called DME and explained to them that the girl coming with us was not going to be staying at the resort and the cm put her on the reservation for us.

Last fall I had taken my DD's down for a long weekend, we were on the dining plan and my DH had been in South FL on business, he drove in for the last night we were there only. When we checked in I told them we thought he might be coming the last day, but we were not sure, they said "No problem, just let us know if he comes" I found out Monday AM he would be arriving that afternoon and called the desk, they added him to the reservation and we picked up a room key for him when he arrived...he was never on the dining plan, they knew we were, because when we picked up the key at the front desk they said laughing "just remember, you are going to have to just watch them eat dinner tonight, because your key doesn't have dining!!"

We did not use DME back to the airport because DH still had his rental car, so I cannot speak to that, but I know they did not require us to add/cancel/change dining plan or ticket arrangements because he came for the last night of our stay. We did not sneak or otherwise attempt to defraud the system but they seemed happy to accomodate him for the last night of our stay.

I don't think it will be a problem, unless it puts you over the room capacity and I am sure the ME people are not going to leave the OP or the child standing on the curb!!

Bad PR to leave a small child alone on the curb. Something tells me she will get to the airport!

If you are really concerned, just get a car from the car care center to return to the Ariport for $40.00 or so.
