Hello all...

I am attempting another trip report. Me and DH were to already be at The greatest place on earth, but due to my DD11 needing back surgery sooner than expected, our trip was cancelled. She has scoliosis and was to have her surgery once school got out for the summer so she wouldnt miss any school, however on her last checkup with the orthopedic surgeon in January it was determined that he couldnt hold off any longer.

He did allow her to finish her basketball season, which her last game is next Saturday. She will be playing in a playoff game on Sunday and then she is scheduled for surgery on Monday, March 2nd.. I know she has to have this done but I am soooo worried about this.

In light of all that, DH told me that I could pick another time to go.. My ex will be watching the kids which was the original plan and DH and I will be getting some alone time. We do a trip with just me and him every year and then do something with the kids also..

SO..... When will we be going?? How long will we be there? Where will we be staying?? These were many of the questions I had.. but I did figure it out..

We will be driving there from Texas.. We will leave Thursday, August 27th after work and plan on driving straight thru to Florida and then stay in a hotel... We'll arrive sometime on Friday.. We are taking a cruise out of Port Canaveral first before we head to WDW so we'll find a hotel closer to the port for that first day.. Our cruise leaves on Saturday the 29th.. I wish we were taking a Disney cruise, but not this time.. Maybe in the future that will work out.. We are going on Carnival Glory and will be visiting St John/St Thomas, St Maarten and the Bahamas.. DH actually told me to book a balcony cabin, so Im super excited! We did a cruise last year and did these same ports for the first time, but we took my niece so this is the first time its just me and DH doing these ports, so we'll take it a little more easy this time and mainly relax! We will get back on the following Saturday and head straight to the resort to check in.. I booked our cruise already in January, so now its just paying it off..

We will be at WDW from 9/5-9/12 at All Star Movies in the preferred section.. Since we will be driving we are bringing a mini fridge and our cooler and some of the luxuries of home..

We thought about flying but decided against it as we would need to do rental cars and just decided we could drive and enjoy the time together and this would also allow us to not have to worry about bringing the alcohol home from the cruise, as you can buy it so much cheaper in the caribbean.. and also we will have plenty of room for souvenirs

As I said, we will be arriving on Saturday, but have decided against doing any parks that day.. I figured we would check in, do our laundry from the cruise, get situated and visit Downtown Disney..

Now I just need to do a little more planning..

What is it about planning a trip to Disney that makes me go all nuts??

I forgot to put a picture of me and DH.. This is us on a trip last year..

Well we are now down to 1 week till DD's surgery, so Im busy getting all that together.. wouldnt you know it that she has a cough and congestion.. I have a call in to her pediatrician to get an antibiotic so she can be well for next Monday..

Ive been thinking off and on for the last few days about this upcoming trip.. and trying to decide which places we are going to eat, which tours we are going to do.. etc.. and Im still as clueless today as I was 2 days ago..

I have some giftcards that can be used at Rainforest Cafe, TRex and Yak and Yeti.. so those places are on the do list.. We have eaten at RFC several times and while its not great, its pretty good.. so we're gonna go back there and then try TRex and Yak & Yeti as we havent been to either of those.. Cosmic Rays is a must do as we do this on every trip.. as is 50's Primetime.. I would like to try a few new places if possible.. Thinking of Spoodles or perhaps Beaches & Cream.. Does anyone have a preference over these 2 and why? Just trying to find out more about either of them..

Im thinking we might do 1900 Park Fare for breakfast on the day that we leave as we wont be doing a park that day as I figured we will take it easy that morning and then go eat and then head on home.. I think this would be a great way to end our trip.. Overall Im trying to keep away from buffet meals as I had lapband surgery last year and can only eat a small amount of food... definitely not enough to do a buffet meal.. but I think I will suck it up and spend the money for 1900 Park Fare as Ive been wanting to do this one.. and DH loves him some breakfast!!

I am hoping that we will catch Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party while we are there.. From what I can tell I wont find out the exact dates until sometime around May.. but I figure there will be some dates while we are there.. as this past year we went to WDW around Labor Day and just missed the MNSSHP by 1 or 2 days.. so we should be able to catch one day..

As I mentioned in last post we wont be doing a park on our arrival day so we can take it easy.. The current plan is to leave Port Canaveral, check in.. get all the stuff in the room and set it up, then I think we will head to one of the mini golfs at WDW as this is something we've wanted to do in past and never got around to it.. afterwards perhaps we will head to Downtown Disney to walk around and do a little shopping.. then eat of course while we are there and afterwards head back to the hotel to relax, swim and go to bed..

Not sure yet of the order of the parks.. so I need to see if the hours are out yet or not.. they may not be.. so thats the next thing for me to do..

I hope all goes well with your DD surgery! When our son had his appenix removed I was a nervous wreck! I look forward to hearing more about your PTR. I just started my very first one myself tonight. I might have to get some pointers from you

I also noticed your DH has a Carnival Pride T'shirt. When did you sail on the Pride? We were on the inagural year of Pride 4th of July ish '03 if I remember correctly.

Yes, me and DH went on Carnival Pride.. It was our first of many cruises.. we actually went in July 2002 out of Port Canaveral.. I believe that was the inaugural year.. so if thats the case we might have been on the same cruise! Small world huh?? That year he and I drove from our home here in Tx and we arrived on the 4th of July and stayed at a hotel near Port Canaveral.. DH was so exhausted as he drove most of the way and he crashed at the hotel.. I watched fireworks from the window of the hotel I believe our cruise left the next day if I remember correctly.. When we got back we went to WDW for 4 days then onto his grandparents home in Palm Coast and then his dads at Amelia Island.. it was a wonderful trip!! We have cruised many times since and that ship still holds a place in my heart I think its absolutely beautiful!! and I hope to sail on her again sometime in the future.. The only reason I remember that year so vividly was because he and I got together in 2001 and the following year we went on our first trip together..

It definitely does!! I keep looking at my countdown and am getting excited that its getting close to the 6 month mark!

Thanks to all who have read my PTR.. I love coming back and seeing that others have come in here and read it..

Well its hard to explain how Im feeling right now about DD11.. Sunday I noticed she was hacking and hacking so I called her pediatrician on Monday to see if he would write her a prescription for an antibiotic.. I left a message that morning and didnt hear back by the near end of the day.. so I called back and finally reached an actual person instead of a machine.. I explained she is scheduled for a major surgery in 1 week and I need to get her well.. The nurse asked me different kinds of questions and said that her dr was out sick but she would talk to the other dr in the office.. I gave her the # to the pharmacy and my cell phone# as I was going to be leaving soon.. so that way they could call me and let me know what they could do..

I never heard back So Tuesday when I got to work I noticed there was a message to call them back.. so at 8:30 when they opened I tried to call and got a message again.. DD had another dr since age 1 and I just changed to this other one about 2 years ago as her other one moved and we moved and I wanted on closeby.. He's ok, but nothing to write home about if you know what I mean.. and his office staff leaves something to be desired.. I decided to call her old dr and find out exactly where they were and figured if I had to take off work to get her some medicine than I was switching back to the dr we really love.. I called and they said they could get us in at 10:30 so I made the appt.. he wrote her a few prescriptions and I got her back to school and went back to work.. there was another message from the old drs office, to call them.. so I did and guess what I had to leave another message.. By 1:30 they still hadnt called me back so I called again and got the receptionist this time and explained that I wanted to talk to a person.. she assured me she would have someone call me back.. They called me back at 3:00.. I was a little upset by this point.. I thought it was a little crazy for all this mess.. I let the nurse talk before I said anything.. she told me the dr said that there was nothing they could give her and to give her something over the counter!! I was livid by this point.. my DD has a condition with one of her lungs that she was born with and she is more suseptical to infections, pneumonia.. etc and this dr office should have known this.. I then told her not to worry about it as I had already taken care to get my daughter the medicine she needed as I had already told them I had tried over the counter medicines and those werent working.. I dont expect them to drop everything for me, but its just frustrating when your child is sick and with her surgery coming up she has to be as well as she can be and as a mother you just know sometimes.. and I just knew there was something going on..

Well as of right now she is almost over this mess thank goodness!

sorry for the rant.. I've just been so frustrated over all this mess..

Yesterday we went for her pre op appt.. talked to the surgeon for the last time before the "big event" and then registered at the hospital, talked to the pain medicine person and the anesthesiologist.. everything is ready to go..

Her surgery is set for 8 am on Monday and we have to be there by 6 am.. the dr wants to start a high dose of antibiotics on her and said it'll take about an hour to be done.. I am happy to report that the surgeon said that there will be no braces OR casts needed.. This made DD very happy!

Tomorrow we meet with the school regarding her home schooling and I'll find out how all of this will take place.. they will be sending someone in the home 2 times a week for 2 hours each day to help her with her school work and any questions she has..

Im so nervous and worried about Monday.. I'll be glad when that day is over.. On one hand I am happy that this is being done, so DD will finally feel better and be without all the pain she has dealt with for so long, but on the other hand Im worried and scared for her..

sorry I went on so long.. this is supposed to be a disney thread right? its just my life has been consumed with this lately..

Well as far as Disney talk.. I did go back and look and the hours arent posted yet.. so I cant wait till thats listed so I can at least plan which parks on which days and then start figuring where we'll go to eat, etc..

I do know some of the things we want to do this trip is go to Cirque De Soliel (spelling ??), I want to see Yeehaw Bob at POR.. we also want to do the Keys the Kingdom tour and of course do the miniature golf courses.. Im sure there is more that we want to do, I just have to think about them and will report back once I know more..

Me and DH were thinking of doing a weekend trip between now and August.. werent sure what we wanted to do, where we wanted to go, etc.. as my birthday is next month.. He told me that he figured I wanted to do a weekend trip to Disney.. boy oh boy I thought about it.. I priced it out.. we have the park tickets so that wouldnt cost anything, but with airfare, hotel, tips, food, souvenirs we were looking at about $1000 to go on Friday evening and coming home Sunday evening.. we wouldnt be able to get there until late Friday so technically we would only have Saturday and part of Sunday.. its just not worth it! I cant believe I typed that!!!!!

I started looking around where we live and thought maybe I could find something closeby we could do.. I did find some nice cabins that are within about an hour from our home.. overlooking a nice river.. bedroom is upstairs with a porch off the bedroom.. I believe the bathroom is upstairs too.. downstairs is a small kitchen area and living room.. there is a built in hot tub on the porch downstairs... and a grill.. This place is a retreat for adults.. noone allowed under 21... there is several things to do around that town also that we could do during the day.. The cabin will run about $330 for the 2 nights..

I booked it today.. April 3rd-5th!!

We are going to check in on that Friday night.. then go out to eat.. then Saturday we are going to do some things in town for the day.. then that night we are going to grill some steaks and baked potatoes for dinner.. then Sunday we are going to sleep in before heading home.. Cant wait! I really would have rather gone to WDW but for $1000 vs about $400 I think this is the best option.. and besides we will get to relax rather than run around.. I was so afraid I wouldnt enjoy just 1 1/2 days at WDW.. I can wait til September.. at least thats what I keep telling myself..

I am so sorry to hear your mess with the doctor! I am always angry to hear stuff like that, because my dad is a good doctor and then there are quacks like that guy giving the profession a bad name. Anyway, I'm glad that you were able to get it taken care of.

I will be thinking of your daughter as the surgery gets closer!

As for your Disney thoughts, I think your weekend trip sounds wonderful and I hope it lives up to expectations. It really does sound fabulous. And I love the idea of doing Cirque de Soliel, since I have heard great things about the show. So much stuff to plan! :

Well now we're down to "the day before".. I'm a little worried, but not sure how DD is feeling.. she seems to be unaffected by everything.. not sure if she is just hiding it very well or just doesnt understand.. I have tried to make sure she knows pretty much whats gonna happen.. I may not have gone into all the details, as somehow I think maybe its better that she doesnt really know..

Well we have our grandbabies over this weekend The oldest DGD is 2.. she is becoming a Disney veteran already.. We've taken her to WDW 2 times already.. she absolutely loves it.. and then we have the second DGD who is 9 months.. We get them every other weekend.. They are such a joy to have around..

DD11 had her last basketball game yesterday.. Her team is the only team that ended the season undefeated! she was super happy for that.. afterwards we went and got her and my haircuts.. then on to Cicis for pizza.. then she went to a sleepover birthday party last night.. and her dad picked her and DD17 and DS15 up this morning and they headed to the Dallas Aquarium.. later today I will be taking her to Mall Cop.. Cant wait..

We took the grandbabies to Build A Bear last night and DGD2 picked out a cute bunny rabbit and of course picked a disney princess tshirt and skirt.. Of course I took some pictures, so once I download them I will post them.. they are super cute! Afterwards we walked to the Disney Store and grabbed a few things of course.. Couldnt resist!

Today is just a cleaning day.. oh boy.. what fun! I just have so much I want to get done since I wont be home much this week..

Still have not even thought of any plans for our trip yet.. I think once things settle down this next week then I will get a chance to start thinking about.. Im thinking next week I will pull out all the stops and start doing that since DD should be home from the hospital sometime next week and when shes sleeping I can do that..

You asked about MNSSHP. We have gone three years in a row! I love, love, love it and would not miss it! In fact, we sort of plan our days around it. Normally it is the Tuesday and Friday of the week that we attend. Hallowishes is nothing short of spectacular and I love the parade. DH has been trying to get a picture of the headless horseman now forever. We have even gone as far as "upgrading" our cameras. Yep, plural. I keep telling him it is not the camera, it is the photographer. That said, I keep telling myself I will take a class and learn how to take pictures if it kills me.

Can't wait to hear more about your trip plans.

Thank you guys.. its 12:17 am here right now and I cant sleep.. imagine that!.. We have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am.. so we have to leave about 4:45 am so we can park the car and be where we need to by that time.. Im so nervous and worried..

Me, DH and DD went and ate chinese for dinner tonight and then I took her to Mall Cop tonight.. she had a blast.. and the movie was hilarious if anyone hasnt seen it.. I will definitely buy the dvd when it comes out..

I will update tomorrow evening some time.. DH is planning on bringing his laptop.. and the hospital has free wifi.. so I can dis while she is sleeping..

Sophia.. Im excited to hear about MNSSHP.. I have been wanting to do this for quite some time and so glad we will hopefully make it there this year.. last year we left the day of the first party.. what a bummer!! I didnt research good enough and didnt realize until after we already had our airline tickets and such that the party was starting right after we were leaving.. I guess it just wasnt meant to be..
