Here now, OMG buses.

We've discussed ECV's and strollers. Lets get the trifecta and add BTG's to the mix. :stir:
uhg, I don't have the energy, nevermind.

Reading this thread makes me think we made the right decision to take the auto train and bringing our car with us from PA to FL. Last thing I want to do after a looooong day in the parks is deal with rude and inconsiderate people on the transportation system!

I don't think these threads really give an accurate impression. As I posted much earlier, our family really enjoys the Disney busses.

Other people have posted positive experiences, too.

You're kidding right? A fast pass for waiting on the bus? You clearly have the wrong expectations for Disney. Disney advises that it could take an hour or more to arrive at your destination when using WDW transportation. It doesn't usually take that long but it can. To get FP for Toy Story Mania rope drop is the best bet.

Your confusing to separate observations, read more carefully

Again the issue is the sheer numbers of power scooters and
Mega strollers at the parks these days. My wife and i took a simple fold up umbrella stroller and a day bag for our 3 and 5 year old when we took them.

Seems there Re more and more SUV sized strollers and double and triples often with 7 and 10 year olds in them. Totally unnecessary

Just FyI i helped a guy with a special needs child get on the launch today because none of the lazy guys in the 3 rows ahead of me would lift a finger.

Same thing on the bus, guys get off you fat beer guts and offer your seat to a lady or child !!!!!!

Most of the time riding bus is a good experience, a must for us, we actually love Disney transportation. However things go down from time to time, just like everywhere.

This is just my opinion of the topics in this thread:

First, I have no problem with people in ECV's. Have never had one in all the times I've been there. Yes, I do find it an annoyance having to wait while ECV's load on the bus, but I'd never complain about it. I'm happy I got two good legs and feet that can keep me walking all day. I know being annoyed is wrong, but darn it I have a reservation or a park to get to. :rotfl2:

Second, I cannot stand the double wide strollers. Those things are like snowplows, and then you normally end up with the rest of the family spread out next to it so they are taking up a 15 foot wide area as they move through the parks. Yesterday, we and a the entire tram at Hollywood Studios sat around for 5 minutes as we waited for this lady to figure out how to break down her stroller.

Third, because of the first two points (and many other reasons) we rent a car every time.

LOL, sometimes people have twins, it happens.:lmao:

It's genuinely impressive that you're among the very rare guests who have your child/ren out of the stroller before or as the bus arrives, and that your stroller folds in a second.

Whats not impressive is your smugness and misplaced sense of superiority. Enjoy!

Is said that like 150 posts ago. You're a little late to the party. I'm already passed out with the lampshade on my head. Move on.

I agree when looked at as Disney trips being a small issue as compared to what goes on outside the scope of Disney World. Although I have noticed that a few posters, no matter what the complaint or how valid it might be, will defend Disney to the very end. They get huffy and have a "How dare you say that anything is wrong with Disney World!" which is kind of silly because no place is perfect.

The kind posters your referring to are called Fanboys, fyi.
You can spot them by their replies, they usually say "you don't think Disney World is perfect? Don't suggest improvments, just stop doing to Disney World." or the like.

we are staying off site this year in late November. I feel the cost of a Disney resort factors in the cost of their park transportation. I don't want to pay for a crowded bus. If I rent a car I don't need to stay at Disney. The EMHs are not that attractive to us, either. I will stay on site for free dining promos at times, but I'm going to try without being on Disney property on our next trip. Our dog will be with us and it just makes more sense to be off Disney property. I can't stand the idea of boarding our dog at night; I want our dog with us, as much as possible under the circumstances.

I'm getting two rooms in our resort room, 2 TVs, a sofa, a small kitchen, a great breakfast included, and some nights have an evening reception. My cost is $88/night without tax. The resort is considered to be a 3 star. I've stayed at this chain a lot in the US and I've been very satisfied with them. I know they are better than most Disney value and moderate resorts. We're close to I-4 and I would project a 10 to 20 minute hike to the parks. I get to be in a car without anyone else intruding on my space and I never have to stand or wait. I'll take the commute and I'm happy. We will have a scooter with us. The resort offers bus shuttle service, too. They have three times in the morning to go to the parks and three times in the evening to return. I'm using this as a back-up in case hubby wants a rest.

I'll report back on my experiences, but I decided it was time to try something else. Fortunately, we do have a handicap sticker; so, this helps with Disney parking. I know you have to factor in the Disney parking fee, but this still puts me ahead of a value resort cost and I can have our dog with us. We get a good breakfast included; so, I feel one more meal will do it for us. I have restaurant.com certificates for all our dinner meals; except, we are doing the Candlelight Processional dinner package one night.

I feel all the walking you do to get to the Disney buses takes a toll on you, as well. Other than Hollywood Studios, the bus walks are terrible getting out of the parks. The walks to and from the resort to the buses isn't fun, either. Now, I will admit I'm not looking forward to getting to MK by car, but we are doing this park only for one day.

We just got back from WDW (Oct 27th-Nov 4th). For the first time ever we stayed offsite. We sort of fell into it. We had a reservation at CBR, but about two weeks before we left, a coworker offered me a week at her timeshare in a one bedroom unit at Westgate Town Center, only one mile from the WDW gates. We paid only $450.00 for the week ($400.00 for the unit and a $50.00 fee for her to transfer in). We had a fully equipped kitchen, bar, dining area, large living room with a L shaped leather couch that folded into a queen size bed, a huge flat screen TV, a screen in balcony with a table, four chairs, and a chaise lounge that overlooked a pool and a lake, a bedroom with a King bed and jacuzzi tub, and a large bathroom with a huge walk in shower. If we had wanted to bring a pet, we could have. They had two different kinds of paddle boats, a free movie theater that showed Disney movies every night, and lots of resort activities going on all the time. For just $54.00 a night we had space galore to spread out and was still closer to AK, DS, and Epcot than some of the onsite resorts. All three were maybe ten minutes away. Staying offsite seemed a no brainer. No way could we get even a value room for $54.00/night. My husband and I both have APs, so WDW parking was free and with my mom's handicap tag, we were able to park close to the gates. She loved not having to deal with getting the ECV on the buses and not having to deal with people's glares. I always swore I'd never stay offsite, but have definitely changed my mind. We loved Westgate. It was super close to WDW and had restaurants galore close by, which were ALOT cheaper than Disney's.

You're kidding right? A fast pass for waiting on the bus? You clearly have the wrong expectations for Disney. As a matter of fact, this past Sunday (11/11/12) was my 180 day mark to make ADRs for my May trip. The website wouldn't let me make them online, so I had to call. During his spiel the CM said to allow at least 90 minutes to get to ADRs. I laughed and said they used to say to allow an hour if using Disney transportation. The CM said they now say to allow 90 minutes.:crazy2:

Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't think it's all that prevalent. But, it does happen. I always seem to find the one family that has 3 kids, a huge stroller, and all the stuff that goes along with that size family. And they always have the kids in the stroller right up to the bus door, and they are always taken aback when they are told to fold it up. Then, they grumble and moan..as they start throwing stuff around. And heaven forbid them move out of the way to let those behind them on...nooooo, they hold up the entire line.
Or, the dad that, when told he had to fold up the stroller before boarding the bus, did just that. However, he thought he could leave his child in the stroller...folded up!!! It was hysterical to watch. The bus driver was stunned!!! He just got up, leaned down and said...'Sir, you have to take your child out of the stroller before folding it up....it can not be opened on the bus!!' The mother was so embarrassed, the dad just couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that the stroller had to be empty, and folded up.

Or the parents that board, with that huge double stroller. The mom sits with the kids, in the front of the bus. Dad? Oh, he has folded the stroller up all right. But then, rather than move to the back of the bus, where there is more room to stand, he plops himself in the aisle, holding that folded up double stroller, making it incredibly difficult for anyone to get past him!!! When someone asked him to move to the back??? 'Oh no...I have to stay with my family!!! You can get by!'

I seem to see one such incident every trip to WDW. I just laugh now. It really is funny to see how entitled some are...or if not entitled, then incredibly ignorant. It only takes a small amount of smarts to figure out the correct use of buses with strollers. One would assume that if you're at a park, with a stroller, you probably took a bus to get there to begin with. So, you should have that stroller folded up prior to getting to the bus door!!! And yes, I do realize that there are going to be some that may have taken the monorail or a boat to the park, and are now heading someplace different on the bus..so may not realize the proper etiquette...but it can't be all that many!!!

Bahahaha now that was too funny!! I could just see all that happening!! But, I think you have a great attitude... you say you just laugh, I would too! People really are like you explained it, either simply ignorant or they just feel entitled to something, but either way it is no reason to let it ruin your trip!! I am saddened by some of the post that are so full of complaints, especially about the people in wheelchairs / scooters! There should be no "eye rolling" going on...if people are in that big of a hurry, might I respectfully suggest they dont even go to Disney (a well known busy tourist area) maybe a mountain lodge would suit them better? So yes, rude parents that can not read and either dont know or dont care about the rules....laugh and let the eyeballs roll...but really being impatient with handicapped, disabled, etc. people just is simply heartless and who knows, could be you or your family member next time that needs the scooter. I just think anyone that chooses to go to Disney for vacation should be prepared to wait and deal with crowds etc. IMO

I was also wondering where you can rent a car in Orlando for $20 a day.

I don't have an issue with why people use ECVs or strollers, I do have an issue when they think that they are more privledged then me being on my own two feet.

ECV people who hold the bus up arguing because the bus will only hold 2...and when 3 are waiting....sorry...but I think that is a waste of time and breath for an arguement. The driver can't change the bus on site to hold 3 ECVs. Someone will have to wait.

THESE are the people I loathe when ride the buses....

Use discount codes. Last May I was with a friend down there who got a midsize car for $98.00 for eight days ($12.25/day). The first week of Sept I used discount codes and got a midsize car for $125.00 for eight days ($15.63/day). We were just down there again Oct 27th-Nov 4th and got a premium car for $212.00 ($23.55) for the nine days, so if you use discount codes you can get a car for $20.00/day or less. Well worth it to avoid the bus madness.

True - but it would be nice if there were more double strollers at Disney with the seats in line instead of next to each other. You can still wheel two children without blocking as much of the walkway. I've even seen some with a third bench between the handles for a third older child to get on board. It would have to be easier to move through the park as well, considering how tight some of the spaces are when it's busy.

I haven't really experienced the issues with transportation that so many are mentioning, but I tend to travel during slower seasons and I try to avoid traveling during peak times of the day. I'll go to the park after the morning rush and leave either before close or let the park clear out before leaving.

There are going to be some rude people no matter where you go. I'd rather be waiting to get on a bus at Disney than trying to find a parking place at the local mall on Black Friday :scared1:!

I know that we had a side by side because it was our real life stroller and our kids entertained one another.

I live the buses now that my kids are old enough to run around on their own. Getting my mom on and off with ecv is sort of efficient when one of us does it. Parking in that tiny place is sort of like parallel parking a hummer though. We've waited through 3 non working ramps on more than one occasion and then still ha the people who just walked out of the park or resort give us the evil eye as we got on the bus. Some people are just mean selfish people.

Most aren't though. Most understand a crying child, most give their seats to those in obvious need, and most are downright friendly. Thankfully!
