Here now...help needed

Rent a wheel chair or stroller and go!........no reason to go home!

My 8 year old daughter broke her ankle on Thursday at baseball practice. We put on a fiberglass cast(which was a new thing at the time) rented a wheel chair which was waiting for us at the check n at OKW and we still had a ball!

I agree with everyone else here that this will be much easier on him than you! If you have to heal from a broken arm, what better place than Disney World?

I did want to mention that if the prescription you have is for a pain medication, you will likely have to actually go to the pharmacy yourself and show ID, depending on the type of medication. So, if you are told they can't deliver it, it may be because it is a controlled substance. I just don't want you to feel like you are getting crazy mixed messages from the crazy Americans!

Once in a cast the pain pretty much went away for my son. (on 5 different occasions!) If you are onsite you may be able to have the front desk help you change around some of your reservations and/or give you a special paper fastpass for a ride(s) that you had to miss due to his accident.

So sorry! I hope he is feeling better today. Keep us posted...hoping it's a magical trip despite the rough beginning.

Thanks everyone. Today was planned to be our Magic Kingdom day but I cancelled everything and we hung out at the room. My MIL is here with us which has been a huge help. She offered to stay with him while we took the other two to MK tonight for a couple of hours. I love these kids, they have been so good...my 7 year old has talked for so long about going on 7DMT but unfortunately, I had to cancel our fast pass we had this morning for it. He has been such a trooper. My older one is so caring for his youngest brother it is great to see.
I just rented a stroller and we will see how tomorrow goes. We do plan on keeping to our Epcot day but I will stay here if he is suffering to much. I know it will heal, and he will be up and running around but being so far from home and on our vacation we have planned for the last year is a bit tough, I won't lie.
His cast is covered with a wrap so no signing it.
Thanks again everyone. When it happened I said to DH I know where to go and get suggestions the DIS!! And you did not disappoint, thank you so much.

Hang in there. Hoping some great pixie dust comes your way! pixiedust:

It just might be ~ you are still recovering from seeing your little one in pain.

Sometimes ~ doing things ~ can distract a person from a problem.

Now ... tighten up your laces and get out there and have Fun.

Laughter is the *Best* medicine.

You Can Do It ! ! ! !

I hope everyone, including you, start to feel better:goodvibes That is a huge bummer. He might need to eat with the pain meds, depending upon what they are. I know that Ibuprofen and Codeine tend to bother children more than adults. I broke my arm in 2nd grade, right before the start of summer, so no real swimming. The pain meds they gave me were terrible on my stomach. I actually had very little pain once the break was set and cast, so I didn't really need the medicine. WDW can be very fun even at a slow pace. Do things like Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom (ask at City Hall) and the animatronic shows. There are a lot of fun things that aren't too jarring. However, I bet he will be fine pretty soon. Good luck and have an awesome trip, despite the beginning.

Here he is just chilling and watching some tv today. Thanks again everyone. Oh and the Turner Drugs here did not carry the prescription but he was super nice and gave me the number for a 24hr Walgreens. I am going to see if we can have it delivered here as we don't have a car otherwise just hop in a cab. The children's Advil is working but I need the other one for the swelling.

it is so true parent's feel their child's pain more than they do. but one of the silver linings is to see your other children are so kind and helpful! things like this does bring our families together. i hope all goes smoothly this week and you all have a great time! who knows, you all might discover some magical things you wouldn't notice if you were going at full speed.

It's been 24 hours since you first posted, so I'm sure things are starting to level off. Being from Canada myself, I can understand your stress. I know if it was me I'd be on the verge of panic. I think you are doing a great job of loving and caring for your son, and I just wanted to send a hug. :grouphug: I'm sure this will be a vacation you will long remember and talk about. Still, I'm sorry for all the worry, stress and pain you and your family are going through.

Not a great way to start a vacation ... but it will still be one you remember and talk about years from now. "Remember the time ....." Make the most of it. The cast members are great and will no doubt give you all a little more attention. Have everyone sign the cast. It will still be wonderful fun and may distract the little guy from his injury somewhat.

First, I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. It would be hard anytime, but on vacation??? In another country??? But as some others have said, no better place to recuperate than WDW! I don't know how long you plan on being at WDW and if you're able to make up your MK day, but if you have a problem getting a new FP for the Mine Train, I wonder if you couldn't speak to a CM about your situation. Perhaps they can get your family a FP for the ride. I'm usually not one to ask for special favors or even suggest that someone do so, but in your case I think it's absolutely okay to ask.

I agree. Definitely go talk to the CM at your resort, explain the situation, and see if they can help with the fast pass. They may want to reward your other children!

Thanks everyone!! We ventured out to Epcot today and he did really well. Thank you for all the suggestions for the stroller, a fantastic idea. He is our little trooper and doing better everyday. I absolutely panicked the first night and I know I had to strong for the kids but I was a wreck. We called today the first day of our vacation because it was just lovely.
Again thank you all so much for all the positive replies and encouragement, my family really appreciates it. Tomorrow was our "day off" with MNSSHP at night. He is still excited to go which is great.
Thanks again!

Enjoy mNSSHP. Hopefully you will all have a great time together. Glad to hear things are going better.

Glad to hear things are going better - my 5 year old broke her arm on a Saturday night, had surgery on Sunday morning and the dr's told us to go on our trip to disney on Monday night. First two days were tough (stroller and painkillers were key) and then she did fine the rest of the week. Hoping the same for you!

Also, some people may not like this, but I would go to guest services and tell them about the 7DMT fastpass that you had to cancel and see if they can help you out. The Halloween party is truly special and I hope you have a great time.

I was bummed to hear he had a wrap, all I could think of was how we used to sign our casts in elementary school and how cool it would be to have Mickey sign your cast.

Just continue to have a positive attitude and your vacation will be great!
