Rent a wheel chair or stroller and go!........no reason to go home!
My 8 year old daughter broke her ankle on Thursday at baseball practice. We put on a fiberglass cast(which was a new thing at the time) rented a wheel chair which was waiting for us at the check n at OKW and we still had a ball!

That is a huge bummer. He might need to eat with the pain meds, depending upon what they are. I know that Ibuprofen and Codeine tend to bother children more than adults. I broke my arm in 2nd grade, right before the start of summer, so no real swimming. The pain meds they gave me were terrible on my stomach. I actually had very little pain once the break was set and cast, so I didn't really need the medicine. WDW can be very fun even at a slow pace. Do things like Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom (ask at City Hall) and the animatronic shows. There are a lot of fun things that aren't too jarring. However, I bet he will be fine pretty soon. Good luck and have an awesome trip, despite the beginning.
I'm sure this will be a vacation you will long remember and talk about. Still, I'm sorry for all the worry, stress and pain you and your family are going through.
