"Her Name Was Definitely Mary". Our 1st anniversary trip, May 2011 *NEW 9/6

I love the BB update! That definitely gives me a better feel of what to expect for the day. I'll have to keep those storm slides in mind. :thumbsup2 It sounds like we might be saving lunch for the Poly, though! The CS place there doesn't sound too appetizing!

I love your bus seat impression. :goodvibes

I am not sure how I feel about the snow family. Kinda sad.. scary... weird. :rotfl:

Great update. I have never really seen pics of BB. I have never been... and probably never will. It was nice to know what I am missing. :goodvibes

Great update! :thumbsup2 I love your BB photos!...Excpet for that poor snowbaby!! What the heck, how awful!! That's so sad! I loved your bus seat outfit! ;)

Sounds like you guys definitely had fun at BB! Um, no thank you Summit Plummet. That thing looks crazy-- glad Ben enjoyed it, though!
There is something a bit sinister about snowmen "parents" taking a picture of their "dying" "child" haha.

That melting family may be the weirdest piece of theming in WDW.

Hoot Hoot!! Lets either make sure they NEVER wear these at the same time... or plan a time when they do so we can take pictures! (dorks)

Im still here and reading, I promise :) June is just busy. Lets get dinner some night around the end of this month?

Just let me know when things settle down a little- things get calmer here after the next week or so.

Great updates! I had to read a couple back since I've been out for a while.

I'm glad you guys had fun on your tour! And that's awesome that you liked the WL! Makes me more excited for our upcoming stay! :woohoo:

And that soooooooo would've been me getting frustrated at DH for not getting mad too! :rotfl:

Your post is really making me want to hit up a water park this trip. We did TL last time and had fun, but I was prego and missed most of the rides.

Note to self, get the couscous at Mara! :thumbsup2. We LOVE the stuff and could eat it all the time!

Can't wait to read more!!!

P.S. Before you posted where you got Ben's shirt, guess where I went? Yep, Target. And yep, Johnny has a shirt to match Ben's. :lmao: I'll be sure to get a pic of him and give you props for finding it first! ;)

The couscous at Mara... oh how I would like some right now!

You should try a water park... stay tuned for or Typhoon Lagoon day- I'll get to it eventually, I promise!

Remind me never to eat a burger at BB, doesn't sound good at all!! I hate those buns that you are talking about, I don't know why they are using them because they fall apart so easily :headache:

Sounds like you guys had fun though!! I think you did a great chair pose and blended right in with the bus!! Poor snowbaby melting though!!

The burger was nast-ee. Yuck.

I love the BB update! That definitely gives me a better feel of what to expect for the day. I'll have to keep those storm slides in mind. :thumbsup2 It sounds like we might be saving lunch for the Poly, though! The CS place there doesn't sound too appetizing!

Definitely save your appetite for better food! It was the worst meal we've ever had at Disney, I think...

I love your bus seat impression. :goodvibes

I am not sure how I feel about the snow family. Kinda sad.. scary... weird. :rotfl:

Great update. I have never really seen pics of BB. I have never been... and probably never will. It was nice to know what I am missing. :goodvibes

Glad I could give you a peek inside BB! I don't think I'll be back there any time soon... water parks are not an every trip thing for us.

Great update! :thumbsup2 I love your BB photos!...Excpet for that poor snowbaby!! What the heck, how awful!! That's so sad! I loved your bus seat outfit! ;)

Thank you!!
I think it's hilarious that I managed to buy a cover up that is the exact color of the bus seats. And props to Ben for noticing, or we may never have got that picture!

It's been a busy, rainy weekend here! Now that I've got some time, here's the next update: hope you don't hate it!

We had left Blizzard Beach around noon and got back to our room fairly quickly. BB is one of just a couple places that are not a thousand miles away from AKL, so it was nice to have a short-ish ride home for a change!
Back at our room, we quickly got cleaned up and ready to head back out. We had an early dinner ADR at ‘Ohana, and wanted to get a little park time in before leaving for the Poly.

On the way out of the room, I snapped this picture of the anniversary stuff that we had been given:
IMG_5357.jpg

Then it was off to the bus stop, which must have been uneventful because I don’t have any notes about the trip.
We got to the MK and were so excited! This was the first time we were visiting during the day. (Except for when we dropped by on the tour, but that was mostly seeing parking lots behind Main Street and hanging out below ground)

IMG_5358.jpg

Ben and I were a little obsessed with ‘Letting the Memories Begin’. We would remind each other to begin our memories when we saw a banner. Here is Ben realizing he had forgotten to let his memories begin, and forgetting everything that had happened on the trip already:

IMG_5359.jpg

So sad!

Once inside the park, we had to get some daytime PhotoPass pictures! The PP cast member was super chipper, and very nice. (Though maybe not the most talented photographer... see blurry pic below for evidence)

Photo0053FourBySix.jpg

Then she asked for a Princess and Gaston pose:

Photo0046FourBySix.jpg

After she took the pictures she said to Ben, “Wow, looks like we have a real Gaston!” These PP pictures were seriously going to go to his head! :rotfl:

Turning to leave, we ran into a couple of Citizens of Main Street. They were two ladies who were shocked and appalled to learn the Confectionery was out of a particular type of fudge. They felt it was their duty to inform everyone of this disaster. These two were hilarious and we chatted with them for a few minutes before wandering off to ride some rides.

We hopped in line for Buzz, which was posted at about 20 minutes, but looked kinda long. Since this is usually a fast moving line, we decided to wait anyway. As we entered the line, I saw Ben reach over the rail with his hand extended to the CM greeter. The CM reached out to Ben and they shook hands. Um, huh? From my perspective, Ben clearly initiated this bizarre hand shake, and for no reason at all. They didn’t even speak to each other. I was laughing uncontrollably as we entered the building and finally managed to ask Ben why he wanted to shake hands with this guy so badly. Turns out, Ben saw the CM was going to hand him a red card for timing the queue and reached out for it. But instead of giving him the card, the CM shook his hand. Then he handed him the card.
With that hilarious mystery, the wait went by very quickly and we were soon done defeating Zurg.

While in Tomorrowland, Ben wanted a picture of him in his NASA shirt:

IMG_5362.jpg

This reminds me that on the bus ride earlier, a guy asked Ben about the launch that had been rescheduled. Ben had no clue about it really, but we managed to respond and have a little bit of a conversation about it. It wasn’t until later that we realized the guy assumed Ben would know because he was wearing a NASA shirt… how was the guy supposed to know that Ben just liked the shirt, and has no more than a passing interest in the space program?

We also rode Space Mountain, cause we always do- it is our favorite ride. The wait couldn’t have been long because we rode stand by (and I’m sure we got FP for later)… here’s a picture of me in a place we spend a lot of time in:

IMG_5365.jpg

Even though I had made our dinner ADR for as early as possible, the unsatisfying and early lunch at Blizzard Beach meant that I was already hungry and we were still a ways away from eating. We wanted to be super hungry for ‘Ohana, but I was pushing it and starting to get grumpy. So what do we do? Got a delicious cream cheese pretzel to share!

IMG_5366.jpg

These are amazing! Sweet and yummy and just right for an afternoon snack.

Next, it was off to one of my new favorite things in the MK: the Haunted Mansion! I have always loved this ride, but they have made it so much better with the updates over the last few years… first updating the attic scene, then the queue and the ending. They managed to add so much without taking anything away. Good job, Imagineers!

There wasn’t much of a wait, so Ben and I just took our time going through the queue… I like that about these ‘next gen’ queue re-dos. There’s less of a ‘herd mentality’ getting on the rides, it’s more of a leisurely stroll that ends with riding a cool attraction. We did notice that most people still just trucked on through like it was a regular line, but that just made it easier for us to interact with the stuff. We also noticed that lots of people didn’t seem to know that there were interactive bits in the themeing. Once they saw us playing with things, they’d start.

IMG_5373.jpg

My favorite thing here is the ‘Ghost Writer’… the picture doesn’t really show it, but it is amazing!
IMG_5374.jpg

Once done with the Haunted Mansion, we had enough time to tackle an attraction we have never done before… since the Liberty Belle was closed for renovations, that left Hall of Presidents.

IMG_5377.jpg

A show was starting in just a few minutes, so we wandered around looking at things in the lobby area.

IMG_5378.jpg

We were excited to see the John Adams and John Quincy Adams items. These were on loan from the Adams National Historic Park, which is just a few minutes from our house and a tour we really enjoyed doing. If you are ever in Quincy, MA- check out this tour (and let Ben and I know you’re in town, we’ll get a beer with you ;) )
We were glad to have seen HoP, but neither of us felt like it was something we had to do again. At least it’s one more attraction of the ‘never done’ list!
Once done with visiting the Presidents, it was time to start making our way over to the Poly to eat and insane amount of food…

HAHAHHA that os too funny about Ben's mysterious handshake and the PP deal!! Sounds like you had a fun start to your day! That pretzel looks yummy!! It's so funny about the enormous amounts of food we eat on vacation! :lmao: Can't wait to hear about it!

We really had some awkward interactions with people this trip... in fact, we always do. It must be us that are the weird ones (is anyone surprised by that? :rolleyes1 )

We left the park and gave some thought to actually taking the monorail, rather than the boat. But one glance at the station showed quite a line, and when we looked out on the water, we could see a boat already heading over. That was an easy decision!
Have you seen enough pictures of us on boats to the Poly yet? No? Well, you’re in luck:

IMG_5381.jpg

IMG_5384.jpg

Considering how often we were using the boat this trip, I still can’t believe we never took the boat when we were staying at the Poly…

Anyway, we made it over there by 4:30, with our ADR at 5:00, right when ‘Ohana opens. With a little time to kill, we found a spot at the bar in the Tambu Lounge and ordered a couple drinks: an Island Macaw and a Sunset something or other. I can’t specifically remember what was in them, but I do know they were quite tasty.
Once we were done with the drinks, the line waiting to check in at ‘Ohana was really long. The restaurant wasn’t open yet, so folks were just all lined up. We decided to just hang tight in our seats for a bit, rather than waiting in a line that wasn’t going to move at all.
When the CMs came out to the desk, I watched as a woman skipped ahead of that whole long line. She spoke with a CM and was given a pager before everyone else. That seemed kinda weird to me, but didn’t exactly effect me at all. But what was really interesting is that she was checking in a group of about 40 kids, and just a few adults.

Anyway, the line was moving and people were starting to be sat, so Ben and I got in line. We chatted a bit with a lady behind us, and Wishes came up. She hadn’t seen or heard of the Magic, Memories and You show, and we very enthusiastically told her she needed to fit it in. Ben and I are probably the biggest fans of this show, and we love telling people about it! I hope her family got to see it, and I hope they loved it!

Our buzzer went off almost as soon as it was handed to us and Cousin Jennifer showed us to our table. She asked if we were celebrating anything (I hadn’t put our anniversary on any of our ADRs, except for one later in the week… we just didn’t enjoy the ‘celebrating’ we got on our previous trip with our honeymoon.) And we told her it was our first anniversary- she was very excited!

We had a great table, with a view of the castle in a sunny corner of the room. This was our first time eating here while it was light out, and it gave a different feel to the restaurant.
Once we were settled at our table, we had to take a picture of me holding the bread:
IMG_5387.jpg

(*side note: I look totally bat-poop crazy in that picture!)

If you read our last TR, you may remember the server taking handing me the bread and taking an awkward photo of us. Since Cousin Jennifer didn’t do this (I haven’t heard of anyone else doing this…), we recreated it ourselves.
If you haven't read it (and don't want to because you've already read enough about our weirdness), here's the pic I am talking about:

IMG_1325.jpg

Soon the food started coming out, and Ben and I got to work. We were careful not to over indulge in the food right away, instead only picking at it until the meat skewers came out. That way we could try everything, and only pig out on the stuff we really wanted. Saving room for dessert is key here, since the banana bread pudding is amazing!

In the end, we ate more of the food than I think we ever have… but didn’t feel too full. Probably because we skipped most of the meat skewers, now that I think of it.
Once the table was clear, Cousin Jennifer came over with dessert and a surprise! A cupcake! She lit the candle and warned us to be careful what we wish for: she said, ‘don’t wish for a cupcake, because you already have one.” We both found that hysterically funny. Jennifer took our picture blowing out the candle:
IMG_5388.jpg

The funny thing is- neither Ben nor I made any wish at all! We were both so concerned with not wishing for a cupcake and posing for the picture that we forgot.

That beautiful bread pudding was calling to use, so we piled our plates high and dug in. Then Ben poured the sauce on the cupcake and ate that, too. Here is the evidence of how much we ate:

IMG_5389.jpg

We were oddly proud of our gluttony.

When the check was brought over, we quickly realized it was the wrong one… the bill we received included a kid’s meal and several cocktails (none of which we had ordered!). So we had to wait just a bit for that to be straightened out before we could waddle out of there and head back to the MK.

A storm had passed over during dinner, but the sun was back out by the time we were ready to leave. Perfect timing- I think this was the only rain we saw all week!

We actually went to the monorail platform instead of the boat dock and waited for quite a while with no trains coming by. Eventually, we decided that the boat was the better option and headed that way.
No one was waiting on the dock, and we just sat on a bench and looked at the castle. Very peaceful! Another family eventually joined us, and then a few more. By the time the boat arrived, there were a lot of people waiting and we had stood up to form a line.
The boat captain told us we would not all fit, and there was some mumbling and grumbling from the crowd. A woman near us said they were first, and before I could think I had answered with, “no, we were here before anyone. And that family was second. You’re third.” It was only after Ben pointed out that it didn’t matter- all of our groups would get on that I felt like a real jerk. It was out of character for me to say anything. I know I shouldn’t have said it, but I just didn’t like the thought of her not getting called on her lie. Sorry, lady! Hope I didn’t spoil your evening!

Apparently there were some major transportation problems leaving the MK, because the first people that got off the boat at the Poly looked at us and snapped, “good luck getting back, we waited forever”. All in all, the tension was high on that dock just then!
I am happy to report, though, that we made it to the MK without any more fights or altercations. Phew!

Once back in the park, it was over to Space Mountain once again. This time it was Ben’s turn for a picture:

IMG_5391.jpg

On our way to Tomorrowland, Ben was so surprised to see CMs inside Tomorrowland Terrace that he had to take a picture:

IMG_5390.jpg

We’ve never seen this place open, so it was a note worthy sight for us.
It was only after we walked away that I thought about the dessert parties and figured the CMs were saw were getting ready for that…

Once done in Tomorrowland, we headed over to my other favorite thing in MK: the Country Bears! But we had just missed a show, so the wait was about 20 minutes. Instead, we continued on to ride Splash and came back to the Bears after. This time, the wait was posted at just a few minutes. When the announcement came on that the doors were about to open, we all got ready to go in. But they never opened. A CM ducked inside the theater and never came out. We waited, and waited. And finally decided just to head out… clearly there was something weird going on!

Knowing how much we had eaten at dinner, you’ll never guess what we did next: got Dole Whip floats in Adventureland. Doesn’t it just make you sick thinking about it? I don’t know how to explain it, but WDW makes it possible to eat vast quantities of food that you would never imagine doing back home.

After this, we were both pretty tired and had an early wake up time the next day. We left the park at 9:20 and caught a bus pretty quickly. We were back in our room at 10. I was sad about missing the Country Bears, but I knew we’d have a chance to visit them later in the week…

Next up: I meet my new boyfriend!

And because I forgot to include it earlier, another PP pic:

And because I forgot this, too:

The Fantasyland construction was way more pleasing to the eye on this trip than when it was a big pile of dirt in September!

Great updates!!! I love the princess/Gaston photopass pic! :cool1: So sad Ben forgot to let his memories begin!

The new Haunted Mansion queue looks awesome, I can't wait to finally see it in October, I feel like the only person in the world who hasn't seen it!

That 'Ohana/bread picture is so weird! I'm glad you guys took the time to try to recreate it! Brandon and I did that, but in his picture he was eating bamboo, and the recreation wasn't as funny as the first. :confused3

Oooh, I can't wait to see the Beast's castle!! The new Fantasyland is going to be so amazing! I'm still gonna miss Toontown, though! :sad1:

I love the updates! I don't think I could ever do standby for Space Mountain. There is something about the line that makes me so claustrophobic! Your pictures reminded me! :lmao: I like to breeze right on through!

Haha, love the awkward bread picture. You guys are so funny. And good for you for calling that woman out. I know it's Disney and it should be a happy place and all, but people still shouldn't lie! I wonder what the hold-up was with getting to and from the MK? :confused3

Ohhhhhhhh! I'm so excited about going into the new Haunted Mansion! Do you have any tips on what things you can interact with?

And honestly, I would've wanted to say something to that rude lady, too (although I'm so much of a sissy I might not have :lmao:). Good for you for standing up for yourself and that family! :thumbsup2

Cream cheese pretzel?! Ok, that's on our list now, too!!

I'm sooooooooo excited about riding Space Mountain (since the last time I rode was 1995!!)!

And cool shot of the construction (kind of an odd sentence, eh?)! I can't wait to see if anything will look different by August!

The new HM queue is amazing!

I think the bread picture is going to be an 'Ohana tradition... we'll have to get creative with it in the future...

Looks like you had some good eatin'!

We sure did... had to get our money's worth at 'Ohana!

I know what you mean about standby for SM... even a short wait feels long. We don't usually wait for it, so I am guessing the line was exceptionally quick that time...

In the HM queue- touch stuff!! And hang around to watch the captain's crypt for a while- it does a few different things. Above all, make sure you stop to check out the ghost writer (it's near the end of the new part, behind a glass window) and don't be afraid to talk out loud to her!

I love the updates. I love the pictures. The one of you recreating the magical moment at Ohana is EXCELLENT! :thumbsup2 I vote you do that every trip. And...as for your dinner... Wow.. your table is so clean! I guess it has been a while since I have dined without wild animals sitting next to me. :rotfl:

Funny about the tomorrowland noodle station and people working in there. I too have NEVER seen it open. Crazy... :confused3

Great updates!! Too many things I wanted to comment on that I cannot remember now :rotfl:

Love the pictures of the HM queue, it looks so cool!...I cannot wait to check it out in October!!

Glad to hear Ohana was great as usual, were the menu items the same as last time? I know there was some confusion about the menu (some things possibly being replaced, etc.) when I was booking ADRs earlier this year

I feel the same way about food at WDW...its like I am a garbage disposal there and can eat all day :rotfl:

Love the update. We also enjoyed the new additions to the HM line. The kids had a blast playing with the stuff.

Glad to hear you didn't over-stuff yourselves at Ohana. My DH needs to take a few lessons from you both! ;)

Oh, and the HoP is one thing that DH wanted to do this trip and we didn't. Our first day at MK it wasn't open yet when we passed it, so we said we'd come back. Then, we forgot and he didn't even realize it until we were on the ME back to MCO. He's a bit of a history buff, so he would have enjoyed it too. That's ok though...gotta save something for next time, right?

Haha, I don't think I have ever been complimented on how clean we kept our table during a meal :rotfl: Thanks!

I can't wait to play with the HM queue in October! You guys are too funny!

I swear it isn't us- it's the stuff that happens to us!

I'm pretty sure 'Ohana food was the same as it was in September. Potstickers, sticky wings, lo mein noodles, steamed veggies, salad and meat skewers.

Love the update. We also enjoyed the new additions to the HM line. The kids had a blast playing with the stuff.

To be fair to your DH, this was our 3rd time eating there and the first time we left not feeling ill! There's a technique to be learned when eating there! ;)

Fantastic updates, as usual. Haha, I remember you guys being awkwardly handed the bread last year, too. What a weird thing for Ohana to do-- totally don't understand it! I love the picture of you guys blowing out the candle-- too cute!
I hope you get to see those bears at some point this trip!

All caught up now :) Looks like you had a fun filled morning at Blizzard Beach, you utilised your time really well and got lots done :)

Love your MK updates, reading it sounded like it was nice and relaxed just going with the flow :)
