I'm looking for some info, help, advice, lol. Trying to help out my DD25's DBF. So, she and I have a trip coming up this week, coming down on Thu, Dec 3rd! Yay, we're getting so excited! Anyway, my daughter's DBF decided he want's to propose to her down in MK in front of the castle! He's not a big Disney fan, but he knows that she is a huge disney fan and would love this! So, he's flying down for one day of our trip to surprise her at the castle! This will be a Wednesday, so not a party day. He should get to the park by about 4-4:15 p.m. I plan to have us there in MK waiting in that area in front of the castle. I think I'm going to tell her we're going to meet up with someone from the Dis, lol, or another friend I've met online on FB, and need to wait there to meet her. There's zero chance of her guessing it's actually him coming, they actually were just down there end of Sep for his second ever trip there with her. It's awesome, he wants to be sure I'm there for this, as well! Not sure when he decided to do it on our Dec trip this year, he had mentioned to me, doing it next year on our Dec trip, but he decided why wait another year, (they've already been waiting quite a while, lol, dating for almost 7 years, lol).
So, as for the timing, is this something that will work in regards to parades going by and such? I think there is that celebrate parade at about 5:15, is that right? I was hoping he'd be able to fit this in before that goes by and it's too crowded but wasn't sure on the timing so wanted to check here. Also, was planning on upgrading my AP to get the photopass with it. I wouldn't be doing that normally, but with this, I figured it'd be worth it. He thought I could just take pics, but I'd rather a pro get them, and maybe I'd just watch or video it. Wondering if I give him one of my extra magic bands(have a bunch, lol), could he use this to give to a photopass person so they could start taking pics as he's walking up maybe? I don't want to add him to our acct because she goes in often to check fp+, etc. Never really used a photopass person before. Could he maybe stop in city hall on the way in and ask for help getting a photopass person to go with him, or would he just go to the hub and ask someone there? I'm afraid they may be busy with a line of people and that wouldn't work so well. Hoping he can get to us before she sees him walking up! I guess we could reverse it, and he waits there and we walk up when I know he's there. Idk. Can you walk thru the castle yet? And at that time of day? Then, when they're all engaged, we've got ressie's at GF for dinner, then will go back to the park for the night with late EMH.

I hope this all makes sense! If anyone has any helpful advice or thoughts, that would be great! Oh, and it's a secret, so sshhhhhh! (lol, luckily she doesn't read the dis!) :goodvibes

Sounds exciting. If having a PP photographer there is a priority, I'd call Disney today and see about arranging it in advance. Stay stay in constant contact with BF via text to coordinate as flights get delayed, etc. You can say that you're coordinating to meet up with your Dis friend. When you know he's approaching, maybe find a reason for her to be facing the castle so he can approach from behind. You could arrange to have congratulatory flowers sent to the room, so there's something nice waiting there when she returns.

I agree, you can call Disney and let them in on it, they're always happy to help with these things. Your MB idea would work as well, if it's linked to your name all the photos should show up in your account. I believe the parade is always at 3 o clock. It usually doesn't reach main street until around 3:30 I believe and then you have to wait for the whole parade to go through so I would suggest 4 that the parade should be done. (This is just from experience). Also, you can chat with disney on their website or give them a call they might have some real advice that can ease your mind!

Hmm, that's an an idea to call ahead, though I could see DBF thinking that's too much fuss, lol, but I'll suggest it. Yeah, if you can still go thru the castle I could say we gotta watch for her looking over cause she wants us to get her pic for her or something before she comes down to meet us. Nice idea about the flowers. Thx!

Yeah, the festival of fantasy parade is at 3 p.m. But I thought there was a smaller parade about 5:15 p.m. Something like Celebrate the Magic or something like that. There's just a handful of floats with Mickey, goofy, chip and dale, etc, and it's like a little dance party. Do they still have this little parade? I thought they still had it in May when we were they a few days. Thx, toni Nicole!

Celebrate the magic is on the castle 15 minutes before wishes, usually about 9:45. You may be thinking of move it shake it which I believe is a small dance party on main street but we have never done that before so I don't have any info, I'm sure you could look that up tho!

Oh yes, that's it! I couldn't remember the name of that dance parade, but it's the Move it, Shake it parade/dance party I was thinking of. Wonder if it's something lots of people wait and hold spots for, if it gets very crowded. I don't think it's as bad as the regular parades, but will be pretty loud. Thanks!

When passing by or eating lunch I usually notice it and we always eat at 11 so maybe that helps!

Hmm, wonder if they run it more than once a day. We're never in the park at lunch time. We usually go before the 3 p.m. Parade and stay till close! Hmm, will have to check into that more, thx, again!

Just wanted to say congrats :). Glad she has a guy who knows what is important to her, whether he feels the same or not. Let us know how it all goes down!

Oh, that's nice, thank you! Right?! Me too, I think that'd be so hard if your other half were very anti Disney! Works well, they've gone twice now over the last 4 1/2 years, and he doesn't mind that she takes a trip with me every year (except money wise, he doesn't think it's necessary, but of course, we know it is, lol!). I'll report back after!

We saw 2-3 castle proposals at the beginning of the month. It's special to you, but Disney sees it all the time and unfortunately they're not going to give you your own photographer or the like. Each couple waited their turn, the guy proposed, the girl cried, the crowd politely applauded, the photographer snapped some pics, and then they were asked to move it along to make way for the next couple. I'm pretty sure one of the guys was also a surprise guest, but I'm not sure as the area was so busy. Congratulations to your daughter. :)

Another option while waiting in the hub area would be to get a snack and sit at a table outside of the plaza. Just have DD face castle. You can also spontaneously ask your DD for a mother daughter picture. Maybe you can bluff by saying you want to ask the photo pass person about a surprise magic shot, so she shouldn't listen. You could also just have the fiancée text as he enters, and then you head to meeting spot. In a crowd. Chances are she might not notice him until you are right there! Congratulations!

I'd go to a PP person that has a designated area and just time it right. Short of paying Disney for your own photographer, that's the only way to guarantee it. They won't just give you a PP person for free. Congrats to DD and I am sure it will be magical!

There is a lot that takes place in front of the castle. The parade, then the stage show and then the move it shake it party. The dance party happens 3-4 times each day. Touring plans has the times guides with all the shows/parades/dance parties that happen in the hub listed.

I really recommend you taking pictures/Video, because you don't know the quality of the random photopass. Often times they are college students and the camera settings are set for them and they just click the button. I haven't ever seen any who wander around the hub either. Also I think I would video and then do still pictures after. Having the video of the whole thing will be nice.

Also when you get a chance that day, stop by guest services and get Just Engaged buttons so you can hand them the buttons after you video.

PP is right that Disney will not do much to help make it special because proposals are literally a dime a dozen, but it will be special to your family and that's what matters. :)

e thought I could just take pics, but I'd rather a pro get them

While there are some CMs who are really into photography, most are just CMs who get paid for taking photos. That does NOT make them professionals. Not by a long shot. Don't assume you're going to get anything better, or even the same as, you can get.

So if he doesn't think it's necessarily money-wise, have they actually talked about what they will do in the future once their money is mingled? What's going to happen? That sort of thing is important to talk about BEFORE a big ol' ring goes on the finger, IMO. Hope they've done that.

Flying in for one day means she doesn't get the "just engaged" stuff for her trip. (she could, but it's weird to have just one part of a couple...ask DH after I stopped wearing my Happy Anniversary button, the looks he got were rather odd!)
