Hemp tattoes?

Henna? My DD gets hers done in Animal Kingdom in the Africa section. I pay the artist $25 and let them go to town free hand. ETA, I will also tip on top of the $25, usually another $5 for something really nice.

This was done a couple of years ago:

Animal Kingdom has a place, I believe Morocco in Epcot also does it. (that's where I got mine)

Those are really neat looking. Didnt know you could get them done inside Disney.

About 8 years ago I took my son to FL for his 16th birthday (during Fall break). We went to Daytona Beach first and then to Disney for a few days. He wanted a tattoo but I said no, so we agreed on one of these (his may have been something diff but Im pretty sure the name was the same - his looked just like ink on your skin, not raised). Anyway, it was supposed to last 2 weeks and it looked great. No big deal, right?

Wrong.

Upon returning to school the school flipped out and threatened to expel him from school over it. He told them it was a temporary tattoo and that it would come off in a week or so. They told him to "scrub harder".

I called the school and informed them when they asked the girls to remove their makeup and nail polish, my son would do the same, as both are temporary embellishments to ones appearance.

I got no comment after that.

The henna is only raised until it dries and flakes off along with the glitter. After that, the design is just dyed into the skin.

My niece had one of these done at the Morocco Pavilion in Epcot about 6 yrs ago. At that time, it was under $20. The only problem is that it started to fade (dramatically) after 2 or 3 days. She followed their recommendations to not get the arm wet in the shower, etc but it was basically gone before our vacation was over.

The cost will be based on what you get. You could probably get a nice one for under $20 or go all out for a full arm piece for over $80.

from what I understand - the longer the dye (bumped up part) stays on the skin before coming off the better. If it is really humid outside the henna will come off faster/ earlier and the dye won't last as long. We've had it last up to 3 weeks when DD has had it done on a non-humid day and we've had it fade quickly when the henna peeled off fast (humid day).

I didn't know you could tip the henna person! I always assume people aren't allowed to accept tips in Disney (except Mousekeeping) so lesson learned there!

That's really pretty.

And years ago (may still be the case), you could look through a book of patterns to choose what you wanted. I think my niece spent a half hour perusing! LOL

I also tip the hair wrappers too :). IIRC, neither the hair wrappers nor the henna artists are Disney employees.

You can get them at AK or Morocco in Epcot. I have done it twice, with very different results. the first time, the artist told me to go wash the area with soap and water, dry it , then she wiped the area with alcohol swabs. That tattoo lasted a good 2 weeks. the next time (different lady), gave it a half hearted swipe with a baby wipe and painted. It was GONE in 5 days. Now _I_ should have known and _I_ could have taken the responsibility of really washing and scrubbing to remove oils from sunscreen, sweat and natural oils, but I did not.

My DD got one at Disney Hollywood Studios last year. It was by the exit of the Muppets theater. She picked a design that covered the back of her hand from a book and cost about $20 and took about 20 minutes. We were careful with it the rest of the day and it lasted for a few days after we got home before it was completely gone. They advise you not to wash your hand or go swimming for 24 hours. The longer it stays on your skin the darker it gets and the longer it lasts. She really liked it.

They were available at the Morocco pavilion in EPCOT a week ago. I briefly looked through a book of designs, but didn't see any less than $25 (and most were pretty small/simple).

One I got in Hawaii lasted a couple weeks.

Keep in mind that while they are generally safe, people can have severe allergic reactions to them on occasion. It's just something to know if you've never had one done before. Most of the reactions are to so-called "black henna," which I do not believe is what disney uses, but it's good to be aware of it as a possible issue when putting something new on your skin.
We had an Indian woman at work do this for her bridesmaids, and one had some nasty red welts for a while afterwards.

Black henna is illegal in the US, so no, Disney definitely doesn't use it! People who have reactions to black henna cannot take certain types of medications for the rest of their lives, not to mention they can have lifelong scars where the black henna was on the skin. This is why I refused to get henna done when I was in Mexico.
