I wasn't sure if this fit under the Resorts thread or the Theme Park Tips...
I can't believe I never shared this tip. Every Christmas my family makes a point to get a photo in front of all the trees at Disney World. We visit every Christmas and make sure to stop by the monorail hotels, the Wilderness Lodge, BW, BC & YC and all the parks.
The parks and most deluxe resorts have the best decorated trees. Outside Animal Kingdom and DHS are towering trees decorated in sync with the park's theme. The EPCOT tree is at the start of the World Showcase and the MK tree is in Town Square. The MK tree usually goes up after the parade is filmed in early December.
Last year we went to Grand Floridian, which has the most beautifully decorated lobby on property (only rivaled by the Wilderness Lodge.) The towering tree reflects the bright white interior to create a truly sophisticated feel. Most resorts have a CM on hand to take photos during the day. We went to grab and handed the CM our iPhone to take a photo with on top of our PhotoPass. We took the Photopass and she huddled us up. "Okay, can I try something?" she asked. "of course, we replied."
"Okay, keep smiling and don't move. Bear with me, she replied."
"Okay..." we said.
We smiled and she proceeded to hold the iphone landscape style. She started to raise the iphone. I kept smiling, wondering what she was doing. Was she taking a video?!
After she finished, she called us over. She flashed a huge smile and said "it worked!"
Apparently when you flip the iPhone into landscape style the direction of panoramic photos does not change. In other words, when you take a normal pano photo, you shoot it left to right to capture a sizable location. Well, when you flip the phone, you can shoot it from down to up - capturing towering scenery such as the Christmas trees. Try it with the Tower of Terror, Cinderella Castle or even the front of hotels. It truly made for a unique photo.
I'll try and find it and post it later. It was really cool and I think it was the best tip we received all trip. I love when CMs go above and beyond. Normally photographers will just take you photo and send you on your way.
