Helpful book on bringing up teenage girl?

I read the book "Yes, Your Teen is Crazy" by Michael Bradley. It is a book about why teens are who they are and how we can understand them better. We have an
amazing teen who made it through all of her high school years without alcohol, drugs, or sex. Her morals are amazing and SHE made many tough decisions in high school to keep them intact.

Raising a teen is incredibly serious. I have read some of the joking posts, and this is just not something to take lightly. You have one chance to get it right.
I wanted my dd's teen years to be NOTHING like mine. We talk constantly, and I LISTEN to her. Listening is KEY! One on one time, such as a long walk with mom or dad is so valuable. Know where your child is, who there friends are, set boundaries (they crave them!), be the house where your child wants to be and have their friends there as well. Listen, listen, listen, and never, ever give up!

I really liked Your Girl by Vicki Courtney. It's written from a Christian standpoint. It had some great advice/tips/insight.

I still remember the day I turned 13. (Many, many moons ago) My mom sat me down and had a talk. She said that I was now a teenager and that life was going to get harder and more complicated. She said that the teenage years are the worst in that you are expected to act like an adult, yet aren't always treated like an adult. That you don't know who to believe or follow. Who really has more knowlege? Your parents or your friends. That your body is changing and you have all these weird feelings that you don't know what they are and what to do with them. She said that there would be days that I would hate her, and she would probabably feel the same about me. BUT, that no matter what, she would always love me and be there for me and that she would be on the other end waiting for me when we could be real friends again.

She was right!

My mom isn't around anymore, but I'm sure that she's up in heaven laughing her butt off as I'm now the mother of two teenagers. Ah, a mother's revenge - Grandchildren!

I read a saying and it is so true- By the time a woman realizes her mother was right, she has a daughter who thinks she's wrong.:lmao:

I finally put "The Mother's Curse" on my daughter the other day.

"I hope that one day you have a daughter that acts just like you are!"

I have been begging my mother for months to please lift the curse she put on me, but she just :rotfl2:

Thank you so much for posting...I did buy the "get out of my life book" that was suggested & I am going to start it tonight. I looked for the one by the author Leman but they had to order it for me. I will look into the other books that have been mentioned this afternoon. I appreciate everyones replies. We just moved from another state & that combined with just being 13 has been alittle bumpy.

I agree we have 1 turn to get it right & that is what I am hoping to accomplish with my teen.

Sorry, I have to disagree here. Raising a teen is one of the hardest things to do, and humor is one of the best ways to keep yourself sane. You either laugh or cry.

Take the job seriously, not yourself.

Amen!

"I hope that one day you have a daughter that acts just like you are!"

On my wedding day, my father looked me in the eye and said, "May you have twins just like you!" I wasn't sure if this was a blessing or a curse. All I know is that my Dad truly enjoys hearing and watching his three grown children raise their children. He just sits back and chuckles and passes the wine!
