I am 16 very overweight I eat healthy and exercise regulary but the weight just doesn't seem to want to come off. What can I do??

I am so sorry. I have been in your shoes. I have to work really hard to loss just a little bit. I have to do about two hours of high intensity exercise about five days a week, along with a 1500 calorie a day diet to loss about a pound.

Have you check with your doctor? Mine checked me for thyroid problems, and any other tests. I have an autoimmune disease and am anemic. My doc says that these things cause me to have a slow metablism. Alot of people us that as an exuse, but for some people it is true.

My advise to you would be to find an exercise you like and do it more. I really like the Turbo Fire DVDs.

Losing weight is a tricky thing. Running a marathon doesn't even burn a pound of fat (3500 calories per pound @ 120 calories per mile). However, if you can be negative 500 calories per day then you'll lose 1 lb a week.

There are some fairly good tricks if you're just starting out to get that 500 calories.
1) Give up soda's and fruit juices - this includes diet sodas which can cause metabolic syndrome. If you are really craving that glass of orange juice - eat an orange and drink a glass of water.

2) Stairs not elevators/escalators

3) Don't eat out often - if you do only eat about 1/3 of what you're given and take the rest home. Check out Eat This not That for an explanation of why.

4) I'd recommend finding a gym buddy - add an hour a day of exercise 5 days a week.

5) Don't "reward" yourself with food for getting it done. Thats one of the biggest reasons people setting out on an exercise plan fail. The reward they often eat easily offsets what they burned (1 mile = 1 chips ahoy cookie).

6) Consistency is king. Its a game of continuous offsets. Dont try to give a superhuman effort one day at the expense of the next 2 or 3.

7) Every other day do interval style - Basically do 1 minute hard 2 minutes easy.

Check with a Dr. because their may be an underlying cause in thyroid, insulin resistance and lots of other things they can help you control and get around.

Sometimes its odd and will make you scratch your head but try eating more. Have a baseline calorie count for your intake and try to eat the calories you burn each day. Sometimes eating too light can cause you to not be losing when you are exercising. Sometimes it could just mean you are gaining muscle(which weighs more than fat by the way) and that you just gotta keep at it a little longer to get it going down.

Also keep realistic weight loss expectations. Its realistic to set a goal of 1-2 lbs a week. And I recommend taking measurements of your waist, hips(at a minimum) every month. This month I've only seen about 4 lbs loss but lost an inch off my hips and an inch of my waist. My weight loss the first two weeks was 4.4 but I've gained back .4 last Friday and .8 today. Frustrating but the inches don't lie.

i just want to say coming from your standpoint(was an overweight teen myself) communicate with your mom. Set goals with her and your Dr. ask her for help. Get it off now in your youth and learn to maintain it's sooooo much easier to do at your age than in your 20's or 30's like myself. I did okay in my 20's but didn't change the lifestyle. It can't be diet hun or you may struggle again down the road.

Please keep us posted! I know how hard losing weight can be, and what a huge task it feels like when you have alot to lose.
