My DH bought in at SSR last year 250 points. I want to buy 150 points somewhere else. Would love to own at two Resort's Please help me decide where to buy. We take our Gandchildren when we go. Their ages are 2, 8, 11. and I must not forget our Son 20. Is is better to get two seperate contracts or just to add on to the original? Thanks in Advance. I appreciate all of your replies. marianne

From your previous trips BCV would seem a nice choice- but I don't know if you could do an add-on there, you could go resale. An add-on at SSR would probably be most economical and maybe get you some premiums (incentives keep changing). I would think VWL would be the most "opposite" resort from SSR so I would check that out. Take your time as you already have a decent amount of points and explore the other resorts on your next vacation.

I would think that the Beach club would be the best. Everyone loves Stormalong bay. If you buy directly from Disney the price is $92 per point until June 30 when it goes to $95. That price is for cuurent DVC members only. If you are open to any use year then you may get lucky and get points right away. When I talked to my guide a week and half ago they had points for February and one other month. If you want a specific month then some people have waited over a year. Unless you find a great deal your best bet would be going through Disney since some BCV resales are going for more than the Disney price. Good luck.

There are advantages to getting an Add-On contract rather than a new Master Contract.

In your case your total contract would be 400 points. At 7-months you could use all 400 points in any combination you wanted to make any type of reservation. You cannot combine points directly from two separate contracts so if it wasn't an add-on, you'd have a 250 point contract and a separate 150 point contract which would have to be managed totally separately from each other, including all banking, borrowing, and reservations.

With an add-on you'd have 400 total points which determines your banking percentages. Suppose you used all 250 of your SSR points but none yet of the 150 points, and you're in your 50% banking window. You may still bank all 150 points because it's less than 50% of your total 400 points. If you had separate contracts, then in the same situation, you could only bank 75 of your 150 points since it's 50% of that contract's total and banking percentages would apply to each contract separately.

Caskbill makes some great points about why adding on at SSR would be very convenient and much easier to manage.

Do you have any other DVC resort in mind that you really, really want to stay at a lot? If the answer to that is no, then I'd advise to do as Caskbill suggests and add on at SSR to keep your points easiest to manage.

Also, if you rarely plan more than 7 months in advance, then adding on at SSR makes sense since within 7 months of a trip all DVC points are equal at all the resorts.

But if you want to make sure you will be able to get into, for example, BCV from time to time then you might want to add on there. I'm in the camp that believes that it will become more challenging to book at non-home resorts as DVC continues to grow. Not because one resort is better than another, but just due to sheer numbers growing but the same number of rooms at BCV, VWL, BWV, OKW, etc.

Maybe you should call your guide and see what add-on points are available in your use year. That might help you decide which resort to add on to. And of course, you can look at the resale market since contracts in the 150 range are fairly common there.

I guess it all comes down to....what is driving your need for an additional 150 points? And why would you like to own at two resorts? Depending on the answer to those two questions, I think you'll find your best course of action.

Good luck in your decision. :)

In expanding upon Caskbill comments about the add on v. new master, so if I had a SSR 250 contract and I decided to buy a VWL 150 contract, then at the 7 month window I could not make a ressie at SSR for a 2bdrm that used 385 points even though I had 400 total points ?

But..if I bought an addon SSR 150 then I could make the ressie and use 385 points cause it's under one contract ??

You can only use points from a home resort at the 11 month window, but in the example you gave about booking at the 7 month window, you would be able to use both contracts to make that reservation since within 7 months, all DVC points are equal. So you could book the SSR 2BR for 385 points at the 7 month mark with two separate contracts, assuming points are available from each at that time.
