Help with Walking a Reservation

Hi Folks,

Our big 2014 trip's 11 month window is just days away, and I (and my Mom - Pirate Granny) am considering walking our reservation. Please don't flame - I know that this can be a touchy subject, so hear me out...

The reservation I'd be walking is a Grand Villa at OKW with a HH booking category. If you know OKW, you might know there are only 2 (!) GVs in that category. Here are the details of our trip: Arrive at BCV, stay in a 2BR beginning May 31st, 2014 and then we would checkout on June 4th when we would then check-in to OKW (and my DH joins us - hence the need for a GV). We will stay at OKW until June 14th.

So here is the important issue: I can book it now, but we don't need to stay there until June 4th checking out June 14th. I can book from May 26th until June 1st. Can I wait until July 1st, call MS cancel the first six days and then add the next six days? This would put my last day as the 7th of June. I would then call on July 7th, cancel June 1st, 2nd and 3rd and then add three more days? And so on until I have us checking out on the 14th? Do I have this right?

Yes, you can do that..as soon as you get the 1st night you really want, you just have to be sure to call the day before the check out day and you'll be set..

Calling the 1st to get June 1 to 8 secured and then calling on the 7th to adjust to the 4th to 14th would work...

I took the plunge!

I booked the HH GV at OKW... it must be as rare as an albino elk !

We (for now) have a check out date of 6/2/14, so on 7/1/13 we will be adding the BCV portion of the trip and extending/cancelling what we need on the OKW, which will give us a check out date of 6/8/14. I will call on 7/7/13, cancel the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and then add the rest of the trip (which I guess will actually have us checking out on 6/13/14, we only plan to stay until 6/14/14 if we can get BLT the last two nights... but that's another story...)

Sound good people (Or Sandisaw, since you were kind enough to reply)? Do I have this right?

When I asked the CM about adding more nights, she recommended calling everyday as the inventory is limited. I said to her well isn't the villa we currently have reserved "out of rotation for reservations" until the morning of July 8th, and she said technically no, that someone else could book it....

Hmmm... Don't get me wrong I'll call every day for the next two weeks, but I think the logic in this thread is sound, and I don't have to call every day...

There is a dark little secret you need to be aware of that I discovered when looking at Thanksgiving bookings at 11 months out. The official documents preclude members from reserving more than 11 months out. They don't exactly preclude Disney from locking up a room more than 11 months out when it is selling reservations through CRO using points it has, from the percentage it keeps at each resort, from points taken back through foreclosures, and from points received as a result of trade outs. What I saw when checking AKV 11 months out with arrival date the Sunday before Thanksgiving was that Jambo GVs were already booked full for Thanksgiving and the day before, but the Sun, Mon, and Tues night before were open, an impossibility if everyone were following the 11 month reservation restriction.

My take is that, barring some really strange circumstance, you don't need to call daily and should be just fine waiting a few days to add and delete to get what you want.

As Drusba mentioned the only someone that could do that besides you is DVC themselves.

Hi Duffy lover...it's mom...I've been thinking I though HH rooms cannot be sold by Disney for cash....only rooms outside of HH...ok folks, have you heard that too?

We are almost there booking the family vaca...only need to secure four more nights! And then roll the dice in December to see if we can score BLT for two nights, I think VGF will be too pricey!

Since I have tons of time on my hands (I'm a teacher and just hanging with my daughters this summer), I am going to call everyday. All the CM's have been ever so polite, and I don't mind doing it to make sure (barring no freakish DVC thing ala drusba) we're all good.

Hi Pirate Granny! I just saw you posted... You may be right (you pretty much always are ) but I'll still call so that I know we'll get building 25 for the whole trip! Besides at this point I only need to call three more times...

WHEW! It's over... We are now fully booked! Walking was very successful for us, especially seeing that the "room" we desired only has an availability of 2!

Now the next item on the list is waiting for the 7 month to open and see if we can't scored BLT or perhaps VGF for the last two nights! Either adding a night or taking off two OKW GV nights! Time will tell...it'll be hard waiting!!!!

Then...booking Dinners (everyone will get to pick one restaurant) at six months, and get our airline reservations...already got our tickets 10 day hoppers and water parks before the pricing increased!

It been a long wait for our every three year entire family trip...seems like its been forever! Thankfully we managed to take separate trips with some family members in between...gotta love DVC.
