Help with renting at Cypress Pointe - Diamond Resorts???

So I am in the process of working with an owner to book a rental at Cypress Pointe. I am very new at this, so I was wondering does the following statement sound legit? Is this the way these rentals usually work?

"......the way it works is that I reserve the villa in your name through Diamond Resorts, so you can call Diamond directly to confirm that they have the reservation. The Orlando resort will immediately block off the villa for your dates, then they’ll receive the list of names from Diamond a week or so (sometimes about 3-4 days) before your check-in."

I have rented through an owner a few times at a Diamond Resort (Grand Beach). The owner contacts the resort and gives them your name and the week you'll be staying. A Confirmation Number is issued and the owner of the unit gets a letter or an e-mail, addrressed to the renter, confirming all of the info...it is on Diamond Resorts letterhead...gives all of the particulars, including location, arrival and departure dates, check in and check out times, unit type, length of stay and number of guests. Also will have the resort phone number and the confirmation number listed right on there. And this is issued at the time the owner of the unit contacts the resort. So you should receive a copy of this from the owner shortly after he books your stay, plus I think I got one in the mail directly from Grand Beach....but that is how it should work.

When dealing with a Diamond Resorts Club owner the process as described above is fairly accurate. You could also get a rental/reservation from a non-Diamond owner. All ownerships at CPR are 3 bedroom, 3 bath deeded units fir either the Diamond or Emerald seasons (Diamond is choice of 52 weeks/year - Emerald a sub-set of lower demand times, no Holidays except Thanksgiving). The basic difference is that a Diamond Resorts owner gets inventory from the Diamond inventory pool and the non-Diamond owner gets inventory from the general resort based pool. It is the same resort either way and how the inventory is assigned or from which pool really doesn't matter to the renter.

Thanks for the replies. After reading your posts, I decided to go ahead with the rental from the owner that I posted about earlier. I forwarded the deposit today and have already received confirmation from Diamond Resorts (just as described by tjlamphere) that the reservation has been made. I am very happy with the price. I rented a 2 bedroom unit for 7 nights for $300.
