So my friend called today to get ressies for me. The only thing available was OKW, 1bdr. Thats fine, I am just thankful for the free hotel! I am coming alone with the 4 kids. So close to the main pool (they LOVE to swim) and maybe somewhere to refill the mugs? Bus stop? Easy on mom as 4 kids alone is going to be the real challenge!

Near Hospitality is a separate booking category at OKW. Did your friend book a room in that category? That would be bldgs 11 to 14 and 23 to 26. That would put you close to the main pool and the beverage refill station neat the main pool at Good's To Go.

However, it would also mean that the only entrance into the bathroom is through the master bedroom ;)

If you want a separate bathroom entrance, that would be buildings 30 and above, the only ones of those close to the main pool are building 62 to 64, which also are the only buildings with elevators at OKW. They are often held for guests with mobility issues.

You can also have your mugs refilled at the Turtle Shack, a small snack bar near the Turtle Pond pool Bldgs 40 to 44 are in that area. Turtle Shack is not self serve, but they will refill the mugs. It has limited hours, though.

Bus stops are located near bldgs 26 (1st stop-Peninsular Road) Bldgs 52 (2nd stop South Point) Bldg 33 (3rd Stop, Turtle Pond Rd) Bldg 19 (4th Stop - Miller's Road) and main check-in (5th Stop - Hospitality House). There is an OKW Internal/DtD/Typhoon Lagoon bus that stops at Hospitality first AND last.

I dont know WHAT he booked and I dont think he does either :) he was just being genorous! I have the confirmation #.. can I call and check? Will it be more pts to book hospitality? Can I have him call and just add to be near the HH? Also, I could care less about bathroom entrances.. its just me and the 4 kids :)

megnsamsgracie, I'm glad your friend was able to get OKW for you. You will have a lot more room than at POR. I suspect he was not able to get you the Near Hospitality category since you are booking for Sept and they probably booked up long ago.

I've only stayed at OKW once - one night in studios and then five nights in a Grand Villa - beautiful. The Grand Villa was in South Point area, building 53 or 54 I think - it was close to the little pool up there and the bus stop and on the golf course. But it was a long way from the main pool. Never tried to walk it. We did have a van, but only time anyone used the main pool is when SIL took her grandchildren to the pool which their parents went to a baseball game and my family went to Cirque. I think they took the bus because we had the van.

Looking at the map, I'm thinking 27-29, 15-16 and 62-64 wouldn't be too bad. Or if your kids are OK with doing some of their swimming in just a rectangular pool, something in the Turtle Pond area between the bus stop and pool might be OK.

Near Hospitality House does not take more points but is a separate category to give OKW owners first dibs at the "better" located buildings. Plus way more people were requesting near HH than could be accommendated so this way people knew what they were getting.

You can not call, he will have to call and see if there is any availability in the near HH category. It is the same number of points.

If you don't mind about the bathroom access, then bldgs 27 to 29 , and 15 & 16 will be pretty close to HH, but are not considered HH category. :)

We like the Turtle Pond area. There is a pool, snack bar, playground, shuffle board, and I'm sure some other things I can't remember!

Have fun with the kids. There are bus stops all over the place and you aren't far from any of them. If you want to get to the main pool and are not in that vicinity, you can hop any bus and get over to the Hospitality House. All buses stop there last. And you can hop the Peninsular Road bus to get back to any other location (especially if you are in South Point or Turtle Pond).

My suggestion about the refillable mugs? Not worth it at OKW. Just fill up the refrigerator with your favorite beverages and do that instead. There isn't a food court at OKW and you'll just have Goods To Go to fill those mugs if you aren't in the Turtle Pond area.

I was just on your other thread, and actually, we used our refill mugs at OKW both times we stayed there. Unlike the values, the refill station isn't open until midnight, but it's open quite late. I think I got a refill our last night around 10:30. They usually had the refill station open by 7:00 or 7:30 at Goods to Go. The one at the Turtle Shack isn't self serve and its hours are way more limited. But we definitley got our money's worth out of those mugs, and I wouldn't stay there again and not buy them. Especially if you like to spend time at the pool! But then I have bought mugs for all of our trips, I am a huge ice tea drinker as our my kids so we put them to good use!

I hope you get as close to the main pool as possible. If not, its pretty easy to get around the resort.

OKW is wonderful, your kids will love it.
