I just found out this morning that I am needing new tires on my suv. Should I go with a Michelin tire @ 837.00 with no warrenty(70.00 off at Cosco) or should I go with a Good Year tire with a 60K warrenty for 715.00. I have been told that the Michelin tire is a better tire and will last longer but the other is cheaper and if anything happens it's covered.

What should I do? We plan on keeping this car for a while.

Don't buy without shopping online first. Places like Sams and Costco have more (cheaper) options online that they will ship to the store to install. They don't always have these cheaper options in stock in store. Also, consider used tires. I have a salvage yard near me. You would be shocked at how many brand new cars get totaled and their nearly new tires are at a great price. My parents got a set where the little new tire nubs were still on there. The car they came off of had less than 2000 miles but was wrecked beyond repair ... but tires were fine.

I bought some Hankook DynaPro's 1 year and 26,000 miles ago for $500 and they still have great tread and low road noise. Just be sure to rotate every 6,000 miles.

A lot of times with GoodYear, they offer 100$ mail in rebate with the purchase of four tires, 200$ if you have their CC.

Do you have a regular mechanic shop that you go to??? The guys I take our cars to always gives me good advice based on our needs and cost. I would trust them over what I read about online.

my stepdad works for a tire company and he said that Real Michelin are the best but that since they bought out several other companies you can't be sure if the Michelin you buy are being made at the real Michelin factory or at the other factories they now own. He won't buy it unless he can see that info- I bought Goodyear's 2 wks ago that he recommended from Sam's club because of this.

What kind of Michelin tire sold without a warranty?

It's the Michelin LTXM/S Our Tire place can put them on for 912.66 but Cosco has the same tire for 837.00, because they are offering a 70.00 instant rebate. I'm not sure why they don't have a warranty, I didn't even ask. The guy said that it was a better tire but IDK.
I do know that I never had any problems with my Michelin tires that were on my Toyota for four years, but all of the other tires that we have had seem to need to be replaced after two years or so. It's insane. :headache:

What should I do?

How could I find out?

We just got new tires (not sure the brand); DH made appt at local tire company...I was on him to cancel & go to Sam's (which isn't convenient for us...30 min. drive). I checked Sam's online--same tire, MORE expensive!

I live in the west. But we have 2 other tire sellers, America's Best, and
Les Shwab, who sell tires cheaper. They sell name brand tires cheaper. So, look in the phone book!!

We have bought tires from Discount Tire Co twice this year, both times they were much cheaper than Costco.

I was in getting a patch done on one of my tires (nail in the tire) and they asked if it was one of their tires. It wasn't as it came with the Honda.

Check around as you might get other perks if anything happens to the tires. The place I went to would have patched it for free if I bought the tire at that store.

My tires were over $800 at Costco. I found better tires at Sam's CLub for $515 plus the cost of membership ($45)

i like to go to tire rack and look up customer reviews of tires. I am typically looking for the best performance over wear. The tires on my car right now are 20,000 mile tires because I couldn't find 10,000 mile tires at the company I was buying from. High wear usually means lower traction, and that's not an acceptable trade off. If the traction ratings are the same only then would I choose the higher wear rated tire.

It's true - when my factory-installed Continentals reached their life expectancy on my SUV, I had Costco install 4 new Michelins -- best decision I ever made...

We just replaced our tires Friday. We shopped all the mentioned places but found the best deal at Pep Boys.

Check Sears - we got ours there today for a great price - I think they were Goodyear or Michelin with a warranty.

i just got 4 brand new tires put on tonight for $352.00...master craft couser A/T...but we didn't have installation fees since dh's cousin works at a garage and got them at cost for us...
