I read in recent All Ears newsletter that the Animation Gallery is releasing a new hand painted cel (Checking In) in celebration of 15th anniversary. The description is "features 15 hidden references to Disney villains".

I have purchased prior cels from the Animation Gallery that I like on prior visits. If anyone happens to be going to WDW prior to end of April and could give me a better description of the cel (there is special artist signing on May 1 which I could pre-order) I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Shawn

I got a post card in the mail of this cel. Let me tell you it is awesome. It is a pic of the Hollywwod tower of terror hotel and through out the pic is depictions of villians. ie apple, hook, cruella's jacket, etc. More than likely will go in me and Randy's cel collection.

Here is the info and picture on Disney's website: Checking-In?
This is an awesome item, and we've already ordered it. Can you pick out all 15 references to Disney villains? Some are easy and some are subtle. Can't wait to see it in person!

I think I found 7 of them but that is it so far. Ok make that 8

Rather appropriately I've found references to 13. Some seem to point to the same villian.

So far I've found references to Jafar, Clayton, Cruella, Maleficent (2) and the dragon, The Evil Queen, Kaa, The Queen of Hearts, Hades, Hook, The Old Hag, Lady Tremaine.

Other possiblities are Pete, Yzma, the Horned King and/or Edgar (Aristocats)

I think that's most of them, Dom! I don't think there are 15 different characters represented, but 15 different references. For instance, the Snow White villains are represented by the apple and the heart box and I think the cauldron? Sleeping Beauty is represented by the spinning wheel, dragon shadow, and don't forget Diablo. I think he is a separate villain. I thought the gun over the mantle represented Gaston, and it sure looks like the head of the columns on either side of the fireplace resemble Chernabog? Linda thinks she sees Ursula in the fireplace, but the picture is not clear enough. Did you notice the shadow on the clock forms a hidden mickey?
Like I said, we hope to see it in person in 3 weeks.

After doing a little research Mickey wearing that hat is from Mouse Takes a Trip a short from 1940 in which Pete is the conductor. Ursula looks like a strong possibilty. I was thinking that design looked Incan and thought it might be a reference to Yzma. If memory serves Gaston's gun was a musket not a rifle so that leaves Clayton.

Looking forward to seeing it and seeing if I can find them all!

Just got off the phone with the Animation Gallery. The artists are not signing the cel, just the postcard. The cel and the pin are not LE. This saved me from buying it now and waiting for my June trip to buy the cel and pin and avoiding those shipping charges.

Kai (Jungle Book) is also in the cel (he's off to the right wrapped around a pillar). I wasn't going to buy it but when I saw it on Saturday, I broke down.

It is beautiful in person. Bought the one with the signed postcard and pin. Nicely done.

What does the pin look like? Haven't seen a pic on any of the normal news sources.

Daber - I'm going off memory which is hazy at best but the pin reminded me of the Collector's Society member pin. The cel is being fedexed to me so I should have it soon. I'll try to get a picture up then.

We saw it -- and I would agree with Figment2. At first that is what I thought it was. But wasn't the logo emblem actually a suitcase? Think so....
We weren't planning on being at that event. We just happened in after the Animation Tour. (What animation? ;) )

Here are a list of the items in the cel:

Stepmother's chamber key
spinning wheel
rose bush from Queen's garden
Cruella's coat
Sculpture of Hades
Clayton's gun
cauldron
statue of raven
Captain Hook's hook
Ursula's tentacles and shell
poison apple
Kaa the snake
huntsman's box
shadow of a dragon
genie lamp

The pin has Mickey in the same pose as in the cel and the green part is a suitcase which has Checking in written on it.

I had the post card that they sent, but now I can't find it. i think you have to buy the cel framed in order to get the pin. If you just get the cel itself, no pin. I bought one awhile back, when they had the sorcerers hat. The pin matched the cel, but it didn't have as much work on it as this cel does. I have the signed post card framed (by me) along with the pin.

I have seriously considered getting this. We'll have to see what the vet bill comes to on Tuesday....
