Ummmm, where do I begin

In the spring of 2001, I decided I needed to make a change in my weight to become a better athlete. I went to see a "medical weight management" specialist, and through the help of weekly meetings, a nutritionist and occasionally some medication (as well as working out 2-3 hours a day), I lost about 60 lbs. I felt great. I played well. I could shop in normal stores. It was wonderful

I graduated from college, and went to graduate school. It was a 12 month program where I was busy from 6:30 am to 7 or 9 pm between student teaching, classes and coaching. I had little time for excercise, and was not good at all about watching my weight.

The last year and half has been no better. I excercise very sporadically, never finding a routine. I make bad choices concerning portion size and food choices. In return, I have put back nearly all of the weight I had lost. I don't really think I look that bad, I wear a smaller size than I had when I weighed this much, but I know I am unhealthy, and I know I owuld be happier if I could take off the weight.

The part that is so frustrating is I know what to do. I have the resources to excerice more (firm videos, bikes, walking the dog etc). I know what good portion control is. I know how to make good food choices. But I don't. And I don't know how to make myself start.

I very much want to start a family, but know it is unhealthy at my weight. I want to lose that 60 lbs before we start. And our basic timeline is looking to start in the spring of 2006. That gives me 1.5 years to lose 60+ lbs. That is a realistic goal. But it's a goal I've had for 2 months, an I haven't made any progress yet.

We have a cruise planned for next may, and a trip to WDW in june. I'd like to lose 30 lbs (or more) by then.

Someone please give me the guidence to help me down this road. thank you

Hi Bekkiz,

You've come to the right place. WISH is the best way to loose and stay healthy. Everyone here is so supportive and it makes it easier when you have lots of friends who cheer you on to success. When I fall off the wagon, everyone here helps pick me back up again.

I too reached my goal back in June and gained 20lbs back. I was exercising consistantly and then I stopped. I don't know why it happened but I'm picking up and getting the process going NOW. I'm not waiting till Christmas is over, although I'm not 100% successful in eating right and exercising every day because of all the things that are going on with Christmas right now. But it's better than waiting till January and starting then.

You can do this. We can help you. I see you do the FIRM as well. We have a FIRM thread where we motivate each other and it gives a place to talk FIRM talk as well. Please join the WISH challenge and jump in and join us. You'll find the best group of people here.

Welcome to WISH!

I think you are already on the right path by coming here and saying what you are feeling. This is a wonderful place to get the encouragement, inspiration and tips that will help you succeed. I am trying to get back OP too, I am mainly working on portion control right now, but am going to be working on getting back to my exercise routine.

It is very important to remember to take time for yourself and do what you need to. I haven't been doing this and that is what has happened to my exercising. We can't be good for others if we are good to ourselves.

You can do this and we are all in this together. I'm sending you lots of PD to getting back on track.

and I find it helpful to log in my workout each day (there is usually a daily thread) and I have also started my own journal as well. Read through some of the journals to get a feel for how you might want yours to work for you, but what I have found is that...the WISHers are very motivational to each other. It really does help me stay on track.

Give a try and I think it will help you start your new lifestyle and stay motivationed also.

Welcome to the WISH boards!

I wanted to give you some encouragement as well. WISH is a great place for motivation. I find reading success stories keeps me going. The WISH journals are a great place to see others progress as well as joining a challenge or two.

I know it can be frustrating when you have all the tools at your disposal but you just can't seem to get started. I am a big believer in the "just do it" philosophy. I don't have to be motivated to exercise or eat right. I just have to do it for today. I don't have to worry about what I did yesterday or what I will be doing or eating tomorrow. All that matters is this day right here. If I can successfully get through today and repeat the process, before I know it, I will have gone a week, then a month and in my case over a year cheat free and exercising just about every day.

So set a start date and stick with it. If you have to have all your old favorites first or "enjoy the holidays" then do it. But once that date you set hits, then take that day and be successful and then repeat the process over and over again. You will get to your goal. Please keep coming here for inspiration and encouragement. There are some wonderful people on this board that will give you the support you need!

Thank you all for the encouragement. I think I will start a journal, and you all can yell at me if I don't check in!

I'm there with you. I did awesome 4 years ago doing Weight Watchers meetings. I stopped meetings and went downhill from there. :( I was doing soo well had lost 40 lbs in 20 weeks.

Life changes often cause this weight gain. Mine was mostly life changes too.

Can't change hte past to move on to this time and future time and work hard you'll get back there.

We probably will be trying too in Spring 2006. But I have quite a bit more than 60lbs I want to loose though 60 would be awesome start. :)

You can do it, you did before. :) :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc
