We have never had to deal with mosquitoes when we have been there. I keep hearing on the boards how bad they are.

What works to keep them away? ( I know it is hard because I am so sweet)
:earseek:

Make sure you use sprays that contain DEET. I think some have a lesser percentage for the kids. Hopefully, it's something they have taken care of on a regular basis, but I'd still bring the spray.

I have read that also, Kathy. I wonder why so many this year. In all my times there, I don't think I can ever recall seeing a mosquito, oftentimes commenting to others how great that is, being FL and all. And lord knows, they do know a meal when they see me. I wonder how they are right now, later in the season.

Avoid perfumes, fruity lotion or soap and bright colors. All of these things attract them. Also if you do use a spray with DEET it's better to spray it on your clothes than on your body, especially for kids.

I use OFF for my dd...it works well!! The poor child is allergic to them and if she is bit by one that portion of her body will swell up and she will get a bunch of red dots. Now how do you avoid an allergy like that?!?! Well the OFF seems to help her. They are bad down here this year so I really try to limit her outdoor activities when it starts to get dark. I mean she has to come in the house when the street lights come on, but they are out before then.

Skin So Soft by Avon works well also.

We just returned from WDW and I can tell you that they are REALLY out. My legs are covered with bites from our first night at the Halloween party. They seemed to be the worst on the Liberty Belle.

It doesn't appear that they are spraying for them this year.

Citrus scented candles

We also have a product called Bug Off which is good for mozzies, virtually any personal repellant if you are thinking of using something.

of course if you do that, you have to put up with hot wax dripping on your hand

Avon has a couple products... One is what I'm planning to take. It is a Skin So Soft combination SPF 15 and bug repellant spray. I've used it on both kids and DH and I (I have very sensitive skin) and have never had any trouble. It is small and easy to carry with, I just spritz up a few times during the day. I would guess for them to be gone before the trip we would need a very cold snap, and then for it to be gone so we can enjoy the pools???
