DH and I in our mid 40's are waking up every morning with stiff back and neck. We know it has to be our 12 year old pillow top mattress. We are interested in a new memory foam mattress that is not super expensive. Can anyone give any info on these and whether they do really make a difference with sleep and body aches?

Thank you!

Not sure what your price range is, but I have heard rave reviews on the Casper mattresses. $950 for a king size. DH and I are getting ready to buy our first!

FWIW, I have slept on a Casper mattress and it was wonderful, but I can't tell the difference between the Casper and the one I bought, which was half the price.

There is a great forum I used to help find my kid a mattress. We found a local place through them that had a number of really comfortable, but they have great resources for national brands as well.

Do you get any bounce with either of these mattresses? I don't want to feel my DH moving in bed.

Not with mine. I doubt it's an issue with the Casper, either.

I've read several reviews on their website where people have said they don't feel their partner moving.

Sam's and Costco both sell memory foam with gel (so it's not so hot) mattresses. Can't beat either of their return policies.

There was a thread on here a year or so ago -- same subject, lots of good answers, might pay to search for it.

I was told about Sleep Innovations, which I think also goes under another name, Novaform. Ordered one for my house's guest room. Lots of folks have slept on it and they all rave about it. Two of my wife's friends have ordered their own.

My adult son also ordered one. He loved it. A year later, his sister went ahead and ordered her own. She loves it.

It gets raves on Amazon. It is the one I would choose, if I were you

Walmart also used to sell it. Not sure if they still do.

Thought about trying a Casper in our guest bedroom before one for us. Would be interested in hearing a review from anyone who owns Casper mattresses.

I can't help with suggestions here but I can say that getting a good mattress does make a difference. I injured my back years ago and sometimes it comes back to haunt me. When my wife and I first got married, we bought a fairly inexpensive mattress (thinking it was ok...) and I woke up hurting more often than not. At first I attributed it to the job I had, but I realized that wasn't the problem. A year later we got something much nicer and my back stopped hurting unless I did something stupid during the day...

I bought this one http://www.costco.com/Novaform-14"-Comfort-Grande-Queen-Memory-Foam-Mattress.product.100150123.html from Costco in June.

It has been wonderful. =)

After doublechecking, I find the Novaform and the Sleep Innovations mattress I mentioned earlier are indeed made by the same company. IIRC correctly, there is no difference between the two lines. One caution, We ordered the 14" for our home and while it is fantastic, it is a bit "high," which makes it a pain to deal with -- at least for my wife -- when putting on sheets, etc., plus the sheets are more $$.

Our son ordered the 8" and loves it. Our daugther has the 10" and loves it. My wife's two friends both ordered the 14" and as far as I know, they love them. I think there is also a 12" and maybe even a six-inch????

You have to poke around for them, the different thicknesses all seem to be on separate pages.

The plus on the bed for my daughter is she is away at college and had no way to cart a mattress back to her apartment, ordering through Amazon meant free shipping to her door. I will say that the price has gone up, she (well, me) paid $240 -- and this was only a year or so ago. Maybe you can find it at Walmart or Costco cheaper.

I have also "heard" Casper is great, but the price seems way above the Sleep Innovations/Novaform prices. I have heard various ads on the radio lately offering $50 off on Casper, so if you google for Casper coupons or promo codes, you will probably find one.

We have been using a pillowtop mattress for 15 years and it is still comfortable. This is probably because it was a good quality mattress to start with, and it has been regularly rotated and flipped per the manufacturers' instructions. I understand that now they make mattresses which are not to be flipped!?!

We tried one of the memory foam mattresses at a hotel and did not care for it, so I don't anticipate getting one of those for our home.

I did a lot of research and after reading through places like www.sleeplikethedead.com we went with a bedinabox.com memory foam with cooling gel matress a couple of years ago and love it. A friend of ours got one of their bamboo matresses independent of us without us ever talking about them and love theirs as well. Good American company with great service.

After a disappointing experience with a $5,000 Sterns and Foster, which we were able to return, we ended up ordering a mattress from Amazon and haven't looked back. We've now purchased two; a 13" gel foam mattress (http://amzn.com/B00JJZ18PS) and an 11" latex + foam mattress (http://amzn.com/B00S5EHYS4). They both feel much better than that $5k mattress we returned, and they cost 15% of what it did. Well worth it!

I bought my 14" foam mattress from Wal-Mart about 3 years ago. It came rolled up in like a ginormous duffle bag and it took about a day after unrolling it to get it's shape. I'm pretty sure I paid under $300 the queen size.

I like it, it's comfortable and I am very happy with my purchase. The only thing I was unhappy with is that the zipper on the cover was broken, and the only remedy Wal-Mart and the manufacturer provided was to return the mattress, which was not feasible since I couldn't roll it back up and put it in the bag. I just ended up putting a a basting stitch along the broken zipper seam and put that side against the head-wall. It also can get a bit warm, but that only bothers me a few days a year so that isn't such a big deal. There is also an adjustment period because your body position will be much different than a traditional mattress.

Also, if you are a multi-pillow sleeper, I would suggest trying to go down to one pillow. I was in a car accident last year and my neck was so screwed up. My therapist insisted I give it a decent trial. It was hard ditching the second pillow, but it made a difference in my pain and sped up my recovery.
