Help with late cancellation!

We have a Reservation at BWV in April. My use year is June. My daughter just made the Varsity softball team and we c
Have to stay home for spring break (or if we go she plays JV as a sophomore). I really want her to be able to play Varsity and she is willing to play JV so we don't lose points.......

So, if I cancel the ressie tomorrow, my points go into holding....however, I don't see,us using the points before June 1......just wondering if I have any other options!!!! Instead of losing the points.....

Any advise or suggestions are very much appreciated..

Not really. You have to use them before the end of your UY because they became holding points. Unless you want to try to rent out the reservation or the points. But you won't be able to use them yourself.

There are other options. Some include using the points to pay for non DVC options like an RCI deposit or BVTC exchange. Another option is a trade in kind. Say someone else could use the points (or even the reservation you have) and then transfer points to you as a replacement. Obviously it's not likely anyone would do a 1 to 1 but if you got back half your points in this manner, you'd be better off than you're looking at now. Personally I'd put the reservation up for rent through DIS since you're inside the 30 day window but cancel at least 1 day before it you don't rent it. I'd start planning plan B now though in case it didn't rent.

Also, rather than simply renting to a stranger, be sure to ask friends, family and co-workers if any of them could use the points/reservation. Hey, you may even be able to barter the reservation for professional services, like doctor visits, or store credit at a locally owned Mom & Pop, gardening services, etc.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!! I did LOL about my daughter playing JV!!

My niece lives within driving distance (NC) and I have not seen her in a while. She may come down and I will probably still take my youngest DD (14) and my DH will stay home with my Varsity softball player!!!

I promised my softball player another DVC vacation this summer besides our normal 1 week in August..and a day at Saratoga Spa!!!!...now I just have to get another week off of work!!!

(I think I am making out on this deal here!!!!!).......

I coach softball for our local little league (10 years and running) my middle DD played high school ball and after seeing her BF's family cancel a family vacation during April she was very glad she only made the JV team. You are getting the best of both worlds, and best of luck to your DD hope she has a great season!!!

I think you made out just fine, as did the younger DD, the varsity softball player, and the niece, LOL. But what about your DH? (Or shouldn't I ask)?

Sounds like it worked out great! (at least for you- ha ha!) We live in MA and will be at BWV during April vacation, too! Let's hope for great weather! Although, this is our 4th consecutive April vacation trip and the weather is always fantastic, so we should be ok!

DH is fine with staying home...he is actually breaking ground on 2 homes that week so he feels better being home and on his job site! Plus, he got some extra days last year with our youngest DD while I stayed back with my softball DD for a weekend tournament!!! LOL.. It won't be as fun without them but we will still have a nice time!
