Hi everyone,

My pj is getting a bit unruly and I would like to add an index to my first post, but I am not quite sure how to do it. I was able to add my pj to my signature.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

OK, let's see if I can explain this without making it sound super-complicated... :teeth: I want to show you how to do it so that the link jumps to the correct post on the page but doesn't JUST open that post. That way people can scroll down and see the posts that came after it rather than only being able to read that one post in a new window.

1) It helps if you can open your PJ in a couple of tabs or windows in your browser. One window should be open to the first post in your PJ. You can use the other window to move between the different posts you want to link to in your index. I also like to have a text editor/MS Word page open for pasting and tweaking the links before I insert them into the post.

2) In your text-editing program, paste this template for the links you're going to make to each section of your PJ:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p= PPPPPP#post TTTTTT

(PPPPPP=post number) (TTTTTT=thread number)

3) Now you're going to go get the Post # and the Thread # you need to plug into that template to create links that take readers straight to your posts. You only need to get the Thread # once—then it becomes part of your template for making links to all the posts.

4) Go to the tab/window containing the first post in your PJ. Look in your browser's web address bar and copy just the string of numbers at the end of your PJ's address. This is your Thread #.

5) Paste the Thread # into your link template, like this:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p= PPPPPP#post 1726902

6) In the second tab/window, navigate to the first post you want to link to in your index. (If you want to link to a series of posts, go to the first post in the series.) Click on QUOTE as if you were replying to that post, then look up in your browser's address bar. The series of numbers at the end of the address is your Post #. Copy and paste it into your link template, like this:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p= 23403087#post 1726902

7) Now you have a direct link to the first post you want to put in your index. To make subsequent links, you just need to find the necessary post code by repeating Step 6 and pasting them into your link template.

8) To create the index, click EDIT on the first post in your PJ, then click GO ADVANCED in the gray box that comes up.

9) Add the name of the first post you want to link to in your index, like "Floral" or "Engagement Story" or whatever.

10) Highlight the name, then click on the little blue globe icon with the chain link on it in the buttons above the post-editing window you're working in. Paste the new link you created in the box that pops up and click OK.

11) Click Save Changes at the bottom of your editing window after you've made all the links.

Hope this doesn't just make you even more confused! :cutie:

Thanks, Carrie!

I managed to get the basic links done so they show the original post, but I like your idea better of being able to see the posts after it.

Once we are done with Irene, here in Boston, I will go back and try your method. Power keeps going in and out, so don't want a big undertaking right now. :)

Love the podcasts!!! The room block one was great!
