Hi everyone! I had an auction end and they paid through paypal. I shipped the item using the address paypal said to. The person has not received the item. They did not purchase insurance, delivery conf., etc. I don't know what to do. Everyone else has gotten their items except this person. I can't believe that 1 package got lost. Do I refund the money? They said to refund the money and they'd ship it back to me when they got it. They said they'd go through paypal. What exactly does that mean? I've got 100% good feedback and really don't want any negative but I don't feel any obligation. I didn't list a refund policy but said all sales are final and that I'm not responsible for item after it has shipped. Please give me advice....

Thanks!!!

If they file a claim through Paypal, you will have to provide proof of delivery/mailing in order to "win" the claim, otherwise Paypal will side with the buyer. Delivery confirmation is really to protect the seller.

It stinks .. just happened to me! I will ALWAYS pay for DC now. Sadly, the person Does NOT have to pay for insurance. It is the seller's responsibility, just like if J Crew or Sears sent something. If they file with Paypal, they will win. So, as much as it stinks, you have to refund -- and they STILL might neg you -- so suck up and specifically ask for positive feedback. I emailed a scanned receipt with the zipcode showing it was sent, and asked nicely for no or positive feedback. He chose no feedback -- fine with me!

With Paypal, you're REQUIRED to use DC - Signature Confirmation for more expensive items. If you print your mailing label through Paypal and use Priority Mail, DC is free (with Parcel Post & 1st Class, it's an additional 18 cents).

As the OP stated, without DC, the buyer can file a complaint with Paypal & they WILL receive a refund from your Paypal account since you don't have proof of delivery.

yep... and you have some dishonest buyers who will file item not received as soon as they see no DC. DC is a must on everything you sent.

been there and had to pay! Ebay will also require you to refund the shipping cost as well as the purchase price.

Thanks everyone! I know they have the package. Every other package has been delivered and people have been thrilled with the items and packaging of the items (as well as speedy shipment). I guess all packages will have DC from now on. This item went to a business also, not a personal home. Do I have to refund the handling fee? I always thought my receipt was enough but now everyone will have DC. Thanks again!!

If I remember correctly you only have to refund the price of the item and not the shipping and handling fee. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me.

First off, how long has it been since you shipped? I would not refund anything yet. I would tell them to wait a little bit more.

It's only 18 cents for DC? Cool.

I'm sorry you're having this problem, tinkfan4ever, I hope things work out ok for you!

Only if you print your own postage online, and that's for Parcel Post & 1st Class Parcels. It's free for Priority.:cool1:

I might be able to handle printing postage, lol. Are there any charges for that? Or do you have to have an account, etc?

You can do it if you have a Paypal account. When you receive a Paypal payment and review the details online, there is an option at the bottom to print the shipping label. You have to enter the actual weight of the package and the measurements. It calculates the postage and then you click print - you'll get a receipt & a label. Attach the label to the package and it's ready to go! I just drop mine at the P.O. because I work in an office complex and have to run to the P.O. after work anyway (or if it's small enough, I leave it with our office's mail for pickup).

You can print a shipping label through USPS.com as well. This includes free delivery confirmation as well.

When did you ship it, where was it going, and how did you send it? It may just need a little extra time in the "system", or may have been misdelivered to a neighbor and need extra time to get to the right place.

You say that you know that they have the package, but you really don't know that. Packages do get delayed and lost sometimes; this person may be telling the truth. I once spent two additional weeks waiting on a priority mail package (that was shown "delivered" on DC) and it finally showed up when my neighbor (who had been on a 2 week vacation) popped it in my mailbox.

Of course, they could be scamming you too, but without DC, you can't prove anything.

Whatever you do, when you send the refund, do it through Paypal's refund button. If you refund any other way, they can still file a paypal dispute (and win) because you don't have a DC number.

Thank you! :)

Thanks everyone! I guess you might be right and they may not have the package. The delivery was to a business address just one state away. It was sent parcel post. This person waited about 5 days and then demanded the refund which I said that the package may still be coming. Then a couple days later they said to refund the money that they didn't want it anymore and they'd ship it back when they got it. That's what sounds really suspicious to me. They didn't request or pay for priority mail. I'm still giving it a few more days. They said they really didn't want to file anything through paypal but they would. Thanks for all the advice and input. I've never had to deal with this in over 250+ transactions. Thanks again and I'll keep you updated.

5 days? I would make them wait AT LEAST 2 weeks from the time you shipped it before even considering it lost.

What is their feedback like? Are they new buyers or have any kind of feedback which would lead you to believe that they do this often? It has just gotten where there are so many scams that it is hard to trust anyone anymore. It makes it so hard on the honest people.

Their feedback seems good but it is private. I didn't know that was an option and that also seems fishy to me. I haven't heard anything from them in a couple of days. I emailed again asking if they'd received it. How will I know if they file a claim with ebay or paypal?
