Hi. Pretty new to DVC and I am running into a problem I need help with.
We are planning a one bedroom Kidani trip for a week in May 2014. We are short just 11 points to book. I talked with member services who was very helpful and gave several options...since we are not able to borrow from 2015 due to timing.
Member services said we could one time purchase the points, which I know but we need to wait to the 7 month mark which I don't want to chance the room would still be available.
They also said book 6 nights and waitlist the 7th night when our borrowing is made available. Or book 6 nights and pay out of pocket for the 7th night.
All sound fine although I would really like the idea of booking the 7 night trip with no strings attached.
Finally my question is, we have good friends who have owned OKW for years and have quite a few points. Can they transfer points to me and what if any would the restrictions be for using them..BTW we own at Kidani so we can book now if we had the points.

I am assuming your use year is after May making the May 2014 trip in your 2013 use year so you will never be able to borrow your own points for the reservation. If your use year is before May then you would be able to borrow and book with them now but if you can't borrow them now for a reservation you will never be able to borrow them for a reservation.

On your friends OKW points- they will not be available for online booking so you will have to call member services to book the last night. Also they will not be able to book until the 7 month window so it won't help you anymore than 1 time use points.

Your choices seem to be to wait until the 7 month window or to book the last night using cash.

I would book the 6 nights. Odds are the 7th night will be available at 7 months, AKV Kidani is the second easiest to get (after SSR) and May is not a popular time.

Thanks for the responses. I kinda thought that would be the case

DebbieB, that is a good point. I was really not to sure about how fast the rooms go at Kidani. Honestly we had a bit of an issue when we booked our December 7th thru the 14th trip. We had it booked no problem, then decided we wanted to add a night at about the 5 month mark, Well there was absolutely nothing available at all. What I am hearing is the early part of December is a very busy time for DVC even though WDW is considered relatively slow at that time. So I wasn't real confident about this May having availability at the 7 month timeframe.

Well I will hope for the best.

Thanks, Jane

Check the cancellation policies.

I would book it in cash, then at the 7 month window, try one time points and cancel the cash ressie if you get it.

Cover your bases either way, worst case is you pay cash.

Downside is you will be charged for the room when you make ressie, so you have to pony up the cash now, even if you end up cancelling.

You should have no problem adding to the reservation at 7 months at Kidani for a May visit. May is a completely different booking experience compared to the first couple of weeks of Dec. To be completely safe you could make the cash reservation for the night but it's extremely doubtful it's necessary.
