Help with a baby carriage/stroller

I'm sure my friends here, on the DIS board, can give me a heads' up. I'm going to be a new grandmother and it has been many years since we've had need of a baby carriage. What are your favorite carriages/strollers? Could you give me pros and cons on your experiences. This is a first and probably only baby for my baby so I'd like it to be really nice. Thanks, in advance, for all your help....

I personally think they've gotten too trendy now. I prefer a traditional stroller/carriage(Peg Perego, Silver Cross) but check with the mother & see what style she prefers ex. travel system, etc.

I have a one year old and was clueless when it came to picking out a stroller. I registered for an all in one system with the carrier and stroller...let me tell you I am regretting this now. It is way to heavy at 50lbs for me to lift (stroller alone). It's hard to transport and it's just too much for me.

I just broke down and purchased a Baby Jogger City Mini stroller and LOVE it. It's on the expensive side ($230) BUT - It's lightweight (17lb), has a wonderful canopy that goes down super far (no need for an extra one to purchase like the others require), folds SUPER EASY (with only one hand). Basket is fairly nice under as well. You do have to purchase the accessories separatly (tray for child, cup holder for mom).

I would say look for something light weight, with a basket, and something that the child will grow into.

I did research on them before I bought my 2 month old the Britax Chaperone stroller. I liked this stroller for a few reasons. I like the ease of rolling it. The fact that it folded up different then other strollers. It folds from pulling it from inside the seat instead of the handle like the others which always caused it to bang me in the leg. Hated that in the others. It is also one of the top rated in crash testing. I was also able to buy a bug net and rain cover desigened for it so it fits perfectly.The bug net even zippers to it. Most of all babies r us has it on stock and is a reasonable price especially with a 20% off coupon.
