HELP!!!!!!!!!! :worried:

I know this probably isn't a resort board topic, but you all have been my friends and I need some advice and a shoulder to cry on. :( On Monday, the 27th, I called Disney to reknew dh and I's annual passes. The total for the two tickets was $682.48 and I used my debit card (checking account) to pay.

So, all is right with the world, right?? Well, it was until today. :( Disney DOUBLE CHARGED me for the tickets!! And overdrew my checking account by hundreds of dollars!! So I call the bank, and they say they can't do anything about it... so I call Disney, they said their computer only shows one charge so they need proof.... so then I'm back on the phone with the bank asking them for a fax to Disney showing the two charges of $682.48.... then I call Disney back to make sure they got the fax... the person who "investigates ticket claims" is at lunch (2:20 pm) and hopefully will look at it before they close at 4:45 pm today. :(

So what's the bad part? Even when Disney credits my checking account back, which they haven't even done yet, it's going to take at LEAST 3-4 days for it to go through. I am just furious!! How can this happen?? And why is it taking so long to fix it?? Don't they realize that I have no access to my money and I'm also racking up tons of NSF fees and bouncing checks as we speak!!!!

Does anyone have a phone # to complain? I'm really upset and nobody in the ticket office seems to care.

Oh you poor thing!!

I never use a debit card. I destroyed the one they sent me. I know to many people with problems. I put everything on a credit card & pay the balance each month.

Here are the addresses that I have.

There is probably nothing you can do about speeding up the access to your money other than keep calling back and forth between the bank and Disney so they transfer the money back quickly. But I would try to find out whose fault it was for the double charge. Did Disney pass the transaction twice, or did the bank process a single transaction twice. Whichever is at fault should re-imburse you for any charges that get placed on the account. This was not your fault and you should not have to pay. Be nice at first, but you should be firm, that this was not your fault and should not have to pay for this error. One of the two of them made an error, not you and they should pay. I hope it all works out for you.

My understanding is that the bank has 10 days to post a credit to your account while they investigate what happened. If it turns out to be a correct charge then the credit will be removed, but if it was incorrect then the credit would remain on your account. Here is a quote from mylawyer.com

The bank has ten business days from the date of your notification to investigate the problem and tell you the result. If the bank needs more time, it can take up to 45 days, but only if it deposits the amount of money in dispute into your account. If the bank later determines that there was no error, it can take the money back, but it first must send you a written explanation

So don't let those bank people push it off on to Disney, they are obligated to look into this for you! Good luck and keep us informed on what happens.

that really sucks! so sorry to hear that. I would def. make sure you talk to you bank so they don't charge you for the withdrawal. I'm not talking about on the phone, make sure you get to the actual bank and talk to the bank manager. As for the Disney aspect, I would not hesitate to bring up a way that they can make it up to you. I hope everything works out for you.:wave2:

UPDATE!

I finally talked to someone with ticket investigations, and they admitted that it WAS a Disney error, they did in fact charge me twice! And even though they faxed my bank immediately with the credit, it will still take at least 3-5 days to clear. :( So I had to run to the bank before 6:00 pm to deposit enough money to cover all my incoming checks, etc, so nothing will bounce.

I keep thinking, "What would happen to a person who didn't have money to cover the error??" They would have things bouncing all over the place.

I feel really upset still about all of this. I have always been loyal to Disney, an annual passholder, etc, and I really don't feel like they've done anything to make up for the hell I went through today. Not to mention the inconvenience I'll be dealing with until the credit goes through. :( Where's the Disney magic????

Frankly, I think you should be upset with your bank. Anytime I've had something like this happen, the bank has worked with me so I *wasn't* bouncing checks all over town and wracking up fees - whether it was their fault or not! A decent bank would work with you - it's not like they have reason to believe Disney's credit to your account won't go through.

I'd get WDW to fax you a copy of the credit and take it immediately to your bank and ask to speak to a bank manager. There is no reason for a 3-5 day waiting period on monies that have been sent to your bank to be credited to your account by the Walt Disney Corporation. I am sure the manager can release the hold. It didn't take them 3-5 days to yank the money out of your account. With electronic banking things are credited and debited immediately. I would also ask the manager to reverse all the banking fees as it was not your mistake. I also don't like debit cards. I have known people who have had their whole accounts wiped out when someone gets ahold of your card illegally. Good luck.

Really sorry you have had all this trouble. Once this is straightened out, I would change banks!! The one you are using is not very customer friendly.

I also agree that most banks will work with a customer if there is a problem ...especially when it is found that it is not the customers fault...

Good Luck..

I learned from experience never give Disney your debit card number. People do make mistakes and getting them to correct it sometimes is slow at best.

Around five years ago while on vacation (not Disney) I used our debit card to pay for our hotel stay.
Luckily I am one to check my account on line and saw the hotel stay was charged twice.
Several phone calls here and there resulted in finding out it was not the hotel or bank that double charged. It was the middleman -- a processing center here in town.
The extra charge was going to take three business days to correct. I was lucky enough this wasn't going to cause bounced checks, but I was upset enough I was not going to have my $ tied up when it was not my fault.
My bank was gracious enough they offered (and did) credit my account right away and they took the credit when it ran through later.
I see no reason why Disney should not pay any service fees you incur.

The company I work for pulls payments from customer's bank accounts. (Direct payment set up prior, of course.). It's rare, but paperwork can cross in the mail, get lost, etc, and funds are pulled. When it causes NSF's, our company reimburses customer's bank fees when it is the company's error.

****UPDATE****

Much to our surprise Disney credited us back for BOTH transactions! :earseek: I don't know if they meant to do it, or it was another error, but this is one I'm NOT going to complain about. The vouchers came in the mail, but no other letters or anything. So I guess our AP's are free this year. :)

This happened to me with a couch I bought once. They double charged me, then double credited me. I called to correct it, and boy did I regret it.....it set off a whole round of more mistakes, in the end I paid for delivery and nothing else... I figured the time and energy I had spent dealing with it was worth more than the couch!!! Enjoy your passes!

Accidents happen. Disney resolved the problem, and will more than likely pay any NSF fees. You on the other hand are in fact stealing $682.00 from Disney. Do you really think you should do this? I would call Disney, tell them of the error, and let the chips fall where they may. Do the right thing.

I had budget do the same thing to me, went to the bank, told them the extra charge wasn't mine and they put it back on my account, had me sign something and I left. At that time I was told that if someone gets your debt card # and charges against it, you are only liable for $50 of it just like you would be with a credit card.

DC

I really doubt it was a mistake. I think they credited me back for the passes because of the hell I went through for 5 days! They were going to have to refund a ton of fees anyway, so they saved themselves the trouble of dealing with me over and over. To say I am "stealing" is absolutely insane. They are the ones who took double out of my account and caused me major pains for several days. I'm sure they felt bad and wanted to do something really nice to one of their most loyal customers. :)

That's terrible!!!! I would be so stressed- I am impressed you can still type that message to us! Perhaps you could transfer funds from your credit card, if you have one. Not all CC companies will do this, but in a pinch, many will let you turn a charge into cash and deposit it. It costs a little bit more interest, I think, but it would probably save you money and worry in the end. Just an idea. Debit cards seem so much safer than credit cards and then this happens! Hang in there.

congrats !!
You are NOT stealing !
Im sure with the fees and stuff they probably were like just credit her the money or you would have continued to call them until every penny was resolved.
We has something happened you know over charged and then we were completely refuned and then like 6 months later received a letter saying they were sorry
have fun on your trip and I wouldnt feel bad you didnt do anything wrong!!:bounce:

You can sugar coat it all you want. But unless Disney told you that they were giving you the tickets for free, its still is stealing. I would call them just to varify if this is the case. If it is, enjoy your tickets, if not, you should have Disney refund you for all your NSF and pay for your tickets.

Don't be surprised if the correct charge shows up on a future statement. My mother disputed a charge with an airline and they refunded the entire amount even though she only asked and was entitled to half of it (airline went under and she only got 1 way service). We were under the assumption (after dealing with the bank and cc company that they refunded the whole amount because round trip service was not rendered)
Anyhow....A year went by and then she got a call from her credit card company saying they had to take back the credit due to final dealings with the airline's bankruptcy protection. She ended up with a new Visa bill for over $1000.

Seems to me to be a computer problem if you were charged twice and then credited twice. I wouldn't count on free tickets unless Disney actually tells you that they are giving complimentary passes as a good will gesture.
