Help! Where should we stay?

I'm debating between several hotels in Anaheim. If anyone has ever stayed there and can comment, I would really appreciate it. We don't need anything fancy - just a CLEAN comfortable room that is close to Disneyland. If they have a good continental breakfast, that would be a bonus, but it isn't necessary. We don't want to spend more than $80 a night (in May), so a "value" resort is what we are definately after. Thanks!

The Best Western park place inn is where we prefere to stay. It is right at the cross walk, and has the best breakfast than any of the other 2 we have stayed at.

If you are considering the Dessert Inn Suites, take a look at the Candy Cane Inn (.net). It is one hotel closer to the entrance than Dessert Inn, and I liked it much better.

I thought the Candy Cane Inn was across the street from the Desert Inn. Am I confused?? I thought it was on the same side of the street as Disneyland.

I think the Best Western Park Place Inn and the Candy Cane Inn are great places to stay, but the OP doesn't want to spend more than $80 per night, and I'm pretty sure that a rate that low at either would be nearly impossible to find.

The Desert Inn & Suites gets fairly good reviews on tripadvisor, so maybe you should try it.

Another one to consider is the Park Vue Inn. It is located almost directly across from the main entrance into Disneyland, so the location is excellent. It gets good reviews as well and has a complimentary continental breakfast. The rooms look nice (I took the virtual tour on Expedia). I checked rates in May and they're around $87 per night - a little over your budget, but I wanted to mention it to you.

There are couple comfort inns in the area. Looking the map, I probably wouldnt choose any of them. They are not walking distance. I would go with the Desert inn, out of the hotels you listed. YOu might also call Hojo's and ask if they have entertainment rates for the dates you are looking for. If they do, you can get an entertainment book before your trip.

Actually that is the Desert Palms next to the Candy cane, not the desert inn.

Just a quick note:

The hotel doesn't have to be very close to the theme park. We will have a rental car and AAA said we get free parking if we purchase our tickets from them, so driving is totally cool.

We are definately on a budget, as we are flying out to Hawaii from there for my Mom's 50th Birthday trip. We are only stopping over in California for 2 days and wanted to see Disneyland. We were there about 5 years ago (when I lived out there), but never had need of a hotel before.

Any other advice?

It is a little more than you said you wanted to spend but I was looking at the Best Western Park Place for June and the rate was $89.00 a night.

I just stayed there with a friend and her family in December and we loved it. It's nothing fancy but it is clean, has a good free breakfast, and is directly across the street from the main entrance. It was really nice to be able to take a break mid-day and swim in the pool and soak in the hot tub.

Another vote for the Best Western Park Place Inn. The room was clean, the beds were so-so and the continental breakfast was pretty decent.

Have you tried getting rates through AAA? All of these hotels are Good Neighbor Hotels and you can get a pretty decent AAA rate by booking through them.

We paid $79.00 for BWPPI several years ago when we booked through AAA and only paid $85 for the Sheraton Anaheim.

Also, since you have a car and aren't worried about driving, you can try www.hotwire.com. They have low rates. You just have to be OK with booking your hotel without knowing what it is. DH and I use it all the time and have gotten some incredible deals like the Omni in downtown LA for $90 a night or the Hyatt Regency San Francisco in Union Square for $80.

We like to stay at the Homewood Suites. They have a bedroom, living room, kitchen with utensils and dishes, etc. It's usually reasonably priced too. We stayed in November for $116 a night and our two grown kids came along. My son slept on the sleeper sofa and my daughter in the 2nd queen bed in the room. It was great!

I like to use Priceline.com for my hotel stay at DL. I've gotten the Hyatt Orange County and the Anaheim Marriott. Both were very nice. At the Hyatt, got it for $47/night. At the Marriott, got it for $60/night. Those hotels are not across the street from DL/DCA...but as you mentioned, you have a car.

The Hyatt is adjacent to Target, so the plus is that you can pick up bottled water and snacks there. It is not walking distance. You will need to drive or take the shuttle bus.

The Marriott is across the street from the convention centre and is about a 15 min. walk to the DL front gate. If you choose not to walk or drive, you can also take the ART which has a stop outside the hotel.

That's a nice Hyatt too, we've stayed there a couple of times. The Homewood Suites is by Target too. Gotta love that Target!!!!

As you can see from my signature, we stay at Desert Inn and Suites a lot!! You can't beat the prices and we have never had one single problem. And even though you have a car, it is really nice to be right across and not have to hassle with parking garage/tram/etc!!!

I noticed that you have stayed at Hojo's also. Which would you pick between the Desert Inn and Hojo's?

If the prices are the same, I pick Desert Inn because with three little ones and being by myself with them, the walk back to the HOJO can be LONG for us at night! I love to be right at the crosswalk. Plus I end up having to go back to the hotel atleast once a day for naps or something I forgot, so I like to be CLOSE!!

I only pick Hojo if I can get it at the cheaper entertainment rate, which cuts my hotel budget in half. I do like the Hojo, and if it was right at the crosswalk I would stay there more often. One other factor is I do tend to pick the Hojo in the warmer months because my kdis love the pool. But from October - May, we don't spend vacation time swimming or it's too cold!

My bad, your're right! Desert Palms, Desert Inn... I remember my original confusion with that one too! A friend booked a group of us at the Desert Palms for a conference at the Convention Center and I told her I was nervous as I'd heard questionable stuff about a Desert Hotel at DL, and I knew Candy Cane was a nice place (and you're right, it is over $80/night).

So... to the OP... sorry! And the bad things I heard about the Desert Inn had to do with the quality of the rooms (dirty carpets, etc) and it was about 5 years ago. I'm SURE they've cleaned the place up since!

Since you are not choosey about proximity or hotel, absolutely do priceline! I have gotten the Hyatt, which is very nice for $75.00 a night.
