Help what to get DD 18

Do you know if the Disney charms work on the Pandora braclet? Thank you.
Camilla has Disney charms. I heard they do fit on Pandora bracelets but if you use non pandora charms on a pandora bracelet you will void their warranty.

Great ideas!!!!

Last year when she was headed for her summer intensive she said she wanted new luggage. Her big suitcase is decorated by her with puff paint when she first went to sleep away camp in 4th grade. :rotfl: but she was clear she wanted to pick it out. When I brought it up she looked at me like I lost my mind because she totally forgot.I wonder if I could successfully pick those out without her help. hmmm We/she does fly a lot.

She won't know which college she is going to until March, they are all in warm climates so maybe an assortment of flip flops.

Keep the great ideas coming.

Thanks so much for the help.

Slightly OT, but just out of curiosity, where did she do her SI? DD found that now that she's a college dancer and on campus, she didn't need her big honking dance bag anymore. SHe has downsized to a Vera Bradley Miller bag for her dance bag, as she doesn't need to carry every dance shoe known to mankind now!

I'm getting my 18 year old niece a "Just in Case" for college in the fall:

- a collapsable cube from Target to hold all the rest
- a flashlight-- just in case the lights go out
- Command Stips-- just in case she needs to hang something
- a tool kit -- just in case something breaks
- lightbubs-- just in case hers go out
- bandaids-- just in case she gets a paper cut
- crazy glue-- just in case something comes apart
- a Vera Bradley cosmetic bag-- just in case she needs to carry stuff
- chapstick-- just in case she gets chapped lips
- an umbrella-- just in case it rains.
- a pack of pens and some looseleaf-- just in case she runs out.

I'll see whether I find anything else to include.

My daughter is 19 and so far this year I have got her concert tickets (won them on the radio yesterday!), a new Coach purse, an autographed picture and t-shirt from a couple of guys on Moonshiners since she loves that show, a VB makeup bag, and I'll probably get her a gift card and some small things for her stocking (I found some super cute necklaces on Amazon for less than $1 a piece). She rides horses so we have already done the jewelry thing for her (ring and necklace). A few years ago we bought her a bracelet at DW with all the princess charms and she LOVED it. I also always find her something Aurora for Christmas since that's her favorite Disney princess. I think it gets harder the older your kids get since they get jobs and buy things for themselves.

Just bought my 19 year old a Vera Bradley Weekender. I got one and she admired it. Found a pattern she loves and if you watch, VB has good sales.

The past few Mondays have been great for VB sales! Sign up for the emails and they will send you a $20 off $75 coupon you can use too.

dd asked for a new laptop since the one we got her last yr has a 17 inch screen and is too big. I don"t want to get her college stuff yet. I asked one of her friends last yr if she had a nice christmas and she said yes but all of her presents were things for college, then she said "I guess they can't wait to get rid of me" and she had a sad look on her face.

No guarantees! I have friends who've been able to add the Chamilia charms to a Pandora bracelet. But when I went to WDW, I tried to get one (or two!) and none would go on mine. :(

If she doesn't already have one, a time capsule would be great for her macbook. She would also be able to take it with her when she goes to college.

One of the gifts we decided on from all the suggestions is luggage. So I need help with selection. DD is NOT into VB at all. She needs all sizes from huge to make up bag. We want it to be light weight when empty and durable. As well as look nice. Any suggestions?

I am also trying to have earrings and ring made. I had an old Topaz and yellow gold ring that is very dated. The stone is beautiful and I am having it updated into a custom ring of a modern design in platinum. I am also having a pair of matching topaz studs put into bezel posts that should match the ring. Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed that the jeweler can get it all done by Christmas. This will be pricey but I think she will get joy out of it.

Great ideas for the dorm too, though we will wait until graduation for all that. I love the portable printer idea and the coffee pot and the emergency kits etc. I am going to reread through all the posts and make a wish list so I have it for graduation. There will be lots of family asking too.

Thanks for all the help and keep the ideas flowing.

The Chamilia ones do mostly fit, but occasionally they don't. I've got Mickey, Minnie and Donald and my sister has Thumper and they're fine, but the Donald I bought for my mum just wouldn't go on her bracelet. Apparently some fit but some don't, it all depends on the individual charm.

And yes, they do void the 1 year warranty, so I wouldn't buy them until your bracelet is a year old.

FYI on the printer. We held off on getting DD a printer since campus has printing options. DD has printing available in her dorm, at a cost. She doesn't print that much. Last year printing cost her less than $10. I think it's been easier not to have her own printer in terms of space, paper, and ink.

You could create her a locket from Origami Owl. They have many charms to choose from, including a theater mask and dance related ones. Check out origamiowl.com if you have any questions, let me know as I just recently started with this company.

I highly highly recommend Heys luggage. They're hard sided, so extremely durable, light weight, have the quad spinner wheels for easy dragging along. My one case is a little scratched/marked after 4 round-trip air travels and many bus/train rides, but my other that I've taken on the bus/train or carry-on air hundreds of times looks brand new still. They come in all different colors and patterns. And you can often find them at Marshalls/TJMaxx for a fair discount.

As far as college things, I know another poster said don't get a printer cause DD can pay to print on campus, but honestly if I ever had to leave my room to print I probably never would've done it. A printer is a must have. A mini-fridge is nice too if the dorm isn't equipped with a kitchen. (or in my case, with 6 girls and one fridge, even if it is)

Just chiming in with my printer experience. My DD is a college freshman this year. She can print for free (up to a certain number of pages per semester) and so we opted to NOT send her to school with a printer. It was working pretty well the few many weeks and she was even able to use a suite-mate's printer a few times, but all it took was one 1:00 am call from her saying "stay on the phone with me while I walk to the library (in the cold, in the dark, by herself) to print xxx" and I bought her a printer the very next weekend! First of all, of course, I was concerned for her safety.... second, I was concerned for my interrupted sleep ;), and third, I was concerned about the extra time it was going to take her on a night when she was already near to pulling an all-nighter with homework.

You might want to send her to school with a small printer (and paper and ink) but NOT open it. If she first few months go by and she doesn't need it, great, then return it.... but if she needs it, she has it. Just a thought.........P

Yes, it was for reasons similar to yours that we sent our daughter to college in possession of a printer. I'd add this: When we were touring colleges, one tour guide pointed out the two printers for student use in the dorm lobby -- both labeled "Out of Order". Yeah, that's just what you need when you're printing a last-minute paper!

She and her roommate "divied up" the necessities, since they don't need two printers in one room, but they both have used it a good bit.

Check out Ebags, Shoebuy, and Overstock (.com) for luggage ideas.

We sent a printer to college with our D. There are a lot of printers on campus, and in the dorm freshman year, but there are also a lot of students. I know my D...she works at night, often late at night. I didn't want her walking around to find a working printer. She prefers to edit papers on paper, not on screen. You can get a good deal on a printer this time of year. We got a Brother, not color. She used it a lot, and so did her suitemates from time to time. This year is is in an apartment, printer is a must.
