Help! What to do if there's a Northwest Strike?

Is anyone else facing this? There is yet another strike looming for Northwest Airlines. This time it's the pilots. Should we book other flights or try to ride it out and hope for the best? I can't get a straight answer from the airline as to what happens if our flight is cancelled due to a strike. I'm thinking most other airlines will be booked with less than a month to go. Any pointers would be most welcome.

When is your flight? We have a NWA flight but not until July so I'm hoping the dust will all have settled in plenty of time. If worse comes to worse, we'll drive. I am off work in the summer so it would only affect DH.

We're going at the end of March. You know, right when the strike is set to start if they don't settle! :headache: Suddenly my magic is fading fast! We are locked into the dates because of our school's spring break, although I told my DH we better start walking tomorrow!

I am in the same boat here, we are due to leave in two weeks and we have no other option of another airline so if NWA does stike there will be no vacation for us. The only other airline that flies to MCO is United and at this time for us to fly with them it will be around 800.00 a piece to fly, there is no way we can afford that high of an airfare. So instead of getting excited about our trip I have been just sick with worry every single day, I am afraid to even start thinking about packing.

I'm so sorry. I'm finding the same thing. We tried other airlines but it would mean a HUGE jump in price and a long flight with layovers and horrid times (leaving Orlando at 6 in the morning!) I know it's self centered and I know those pilots have every right to strike, but I am SOOOO bummed! If there was a smilie that showed a minnie girl crying buckets, I'd put it here.

Well, IF those pilots strike.... let's hope they all have new jobs lined up in advance.... They won't have an airline to come back to. The pilots probably know this... not sure about the Union leadership.

However, on the positive sign as soon as NW announces that due to the strike they have shut down due to bankruptcy, the US laws will kick in which will allow you to fly standby on the other carriers...

That's a good point, Carol: I wouldn't be as worried about Northwest striking as I would be of Northwest going out of business because of the strike. That would be a far worse situation for its current ticket-holders.

That's it exactly. I think I better take a little break from the boards! Reality has come here, and I don't like it! :) A Northwest employee told us she was choosing between being pushed around by the company or helping shut it down. Not a good situation for them in any way. Helps put my vacation in perspective, but... :worried:

Thanks for the honest input!
