Need help with dark transfers for t-shirts. All the light ones came out perfect. I knew to change to mirror image printed on light paper. Ironed on.. peeled fine.

The dark is a huge problem. The first thing we did was my mistake and we started doing the dark transfers the same as light. And realized that was wrong when they peeled off... (after messing up 2 shirts so bad they had to be thrown away). So I stopped and read the directions for dark like I should have. And tried what I thought was right and that was to have the design facing me, and then put the parchment paper on that. That was a big mistake and the parchment paper turned brown. So then we tried turning the dark transfer print down, then the parchment paper. That printed the design facing down and then peeled and it was only white... By this point we were too tired and just stopped.

Help what are we doing wrong. I feel so stupid. We have to have these shirts packed by tomrorow night.. on top of doing all the packing tomorrow. Help!!1

Ok, I'll see if I can help here.

Print image normal (NOT mirror).

Peel off the back of the paper (this makes the image "stick" to the t-shirt)

Place parchment paper over the image and iron all over the parchment paper where the image is "sticking" to the t-shirt. ( on the directions there should be an area that states how long you should iron based on the size of the picture you have.)

*We don't usually take the parchment paper off right away, we let it sit for a minute or two before doing anything to it.

*Read the instructions for you specific paper VERY carefully. They also list the proper heat settings that should be used for the specific brand of paper. (we always use Avery)

* Some parts of the parchment paper may have a slight tint of brown to them, but if they turn "brown" then you are probably ironing for too long or leaving the iron sit in one area for too long.

crzyred - After I posted and went back and read the tips. I think the key that we missed is the peeling the design off the white paper and sticking it too the shirt. Then put the parchment paper over and iron. I swear those directions never said to peel the back first.

Thank you!!!

Well I hope things work out now! Good luck!!!:thumbsup2

It was exactly what I was doing wrong. Thank you! I re- read the directions and it still no where says to peel before ironing.. crazy!!

I would have got photos but we have to pack them this afternoon! Photos will come after our trip!
