HELP! - We bought fanny packs!

That is so funny. Most of my friends do not have kids and when they saw our Disney pics with me wearing a fanny pack, i got quite a few shocked comments. I wouldn't wear one at home, but definatley on vacation. I do not like to carry bags or anything especially being in hot weather, plus i put it right through my belt loops so i font even need to weear a belt. i am sure i look sooo "un cool", but who cares, I am on vacation. I am confortable and it worls for me!. I bought new one this year at Walmart. It is a pretty pink and can fit my camcorder, digital camera, a small snack for my kids. It came with an attached wallet inside so i just bring my license, one credit card, My AAA card and my tickets. I keep my cameras in ziploc bags for when we go on water rides. I havent yet mastered how to fit 4 ponchos in the fanny pack and my hubby won't wear one. I tell him that even Hulk HOgan wears one all the time, but that doesn't work for him.

Well I won't wear a fanny pack I just can't do it. BUT what I can do is make DH wear it!! :rotfl2: I call it a sport pack and he wears it! :rotfl2:

...........If you start wearing those horrible fanny bags you know what's next?matching lime green shirts, bright colored crocks, elastic waist bands, socks with sandals, mister fans and bottles hanging from your belt and flip up sunglasses.....Do you really want to go there? I mean really, life is too short to walk around like that, no matter where you are.....

You have that backwards. Life is too short to be worrying about if you look like a dufus or not. As long as I am comfortable, that is all that matters!!

I wear one all the time at the theme parks. Have done so for the last 10 years. I carry my wallet, cell phone, some band-aids, insect bite cream, sun lotion, pencil and notebook in it. I hang my camara bag and a water bottle from the strap. Couldn't live without it! :cool1:

We purchased 5 "packs" on Sunday..and I will wear one..but only at WDW...as Jerry Seinfeld said "it's not a purse..it's European".."not that there is anything wrong with that" :rotfl:

I have a practical concern about the fanny packs. I got one at Target, pink! It is a good size, not to big, not to small has 3 pockets (front, main and card one on the back) but is is not padded. I want to carry my camera/ or DVR. Has anyone padded a fanny pack themselves? I don't want it to get banged around with the kids all over me.
any other suggestions?

Well the title of the thread is Help we bought fanny packs...not Hurray we bought fanny packs.

You don't have to spend any more money than you can afford to look good. Just because you are in WDW does not mean you have to walk around looking like "Walt Disney threw up". Comfort does not mean you have to dress like a "DON'T". What about self esteem and pride in yourself and caring about what you look like. It has nothing to do with how much money you have or if you are a size 6 or 60. Some people just don't care about themselves and it shows. My question is why look bad when you can look good???

Sarah Jessica Parker wore one on Sex and the City. I think the designer was Gucci or something along those lines. And I think Patricia Field (costume designer for S&TC) maybe knows what she is talking about. I have a Coach hip pack but it is leather and probably not the best thing to take to theme parks.
Anyway, what might offend your sense of taste is perfectly ok for another. I like to look cute too, but I also believe in comfort! My hubby and I always get a chuckle out of those women who walk around in hot-cha-cha shoes and skirts up to their.... well you get the idea. How can that be a fun time?

I still cannot wear a fanny pack, I used one when I was a child at the mountain skiing but then graduated to a larger pack. I cannot go back I still make fun of my parents for wearing them, just last week they came to a race in Charlotte and of course they had them in tow. I snowboard with a pack all the time so I guess I am comfortable having one attached to my back all the time. I will be wearing the pack this month on my trip with the alien lime mickey heads. Plus I cannot fit everything in a fanny pack I need the space.

There are others on the page but a signature swing pack is 98.00 on the bottom of the page. Not a lot of money considering you can wear it everywhere. That is the beauty of buying a bag like that....it's not just for a theme park.

I personally think logo items look incredibly tacky and 80s in a bad way (rather than a retro way!). Remember teens in the 80s wearing athletic shoes with the price tags hanging off them? That's what signature bags remind me of. Yes, I could afford one, and no, I wouldn't be caught dead in one. I like the shape, though--I'd consider it if it wasn't logo'd.

Sex and the City is so over. Those fashions are yesterday's , I means yesteryear's news. The show has been off or years now. Holy 90's Batman! They may have been the thing to wear at one time....those fashions have gone the way of the hair scunci. It's just something that's really dated and there are other choices.

Dressing in high heels and short skirts or shorts and a bikini top is a "don't" too. How does that make any sense?

Oh my... now I know why they find people for makeovers in theme parks. Like shootong fish in a barrel.

I guess I don't get what makes you a fashion authority. You put people down for their choices and really what does it matter to you? If it is so dated why can you still purchase designer hip bags? Actually since you are so willing to give out fashion advice and seem to have a leg up on what's hot and what isn't maybe you should do something constructive with it rather than slam people's choices?! Just a thought. And can't people just dress how they want in the spirit of fun and comfort? It's a theme park not New York Fashion Week. I also think that someone being themselves in Crocs, or fanny packs, or matching shirts is great! They are true to what works for them and not led by whatever the current trend may happen to be.

I am curious as to why you are so concerned what others wear and why you do not focus on having fun at WDW? I am at WDW to have fun with my family and enjoy myself. I wear business clothes 355 days a year...VAction is time to relax.... Self esteem has nothing to do with how you look outside,it how you feel inside, and folks who feel the need to be perfect on the outside sometimes are missing some of that on the inside.

Look for me..I will be the middle aged guy with yellow mickey mouse shirt, orange shorts, Disney Cruise Line baseball hat, and yellow and blue leather converse sneakers with sunglasses...AND a fanny pack to hold MY KIDS stuff so they do not have to...and guess what..I will feel good about myself and will be having a great time..while you are wasting your vacation evaluating everyone who walks by... :cool1:

I've never considered fanny packs to be dorky. I was actually surprised to read that on here. I can almost never wear one though, because I need to carry too much stuff - but I wish I could. :sunny:

Hey they still make Spam, but that does not mean you should eat it.

Why am I mean.? When you see a makeover show is that mean? When you see a spouse that is unhappy with the way the other dresses is that mean? Books, magazines and TV shows spotlight on what to wear and what not to wear....are those mean too? We vacation often, and believe me the only thing I am concerned with is a good time not what you folks wear. I am responding to a post that's all. My point is is that you don't have to look like a dork. I do have to admit though OMG I have seen some pretty horiffic outfits....I am not looking but some do stick out like a sore thumb. You have to admit it too as I have seen posts here regarding what other people wear in the parks including pictures of the fashion victim, so give me a break.

If you feel comfortable looking like that, that is your choice. All I am saying is that if you don't want to look like a dufus there are choices that will not cost you any more than what you spend now.

You don't have to be a fashionista to figure that out, you just need a mirror.

The thing is, the OP was asking for advice about how to fit what she needs to carry into a fanny pack more so than anything else. It sounded like to me the other stuff was just being funny. It really wasn't a plea for help about how to escape the black bar of the fashion police. I originally thought you were joking about crocs, lime green t-shirts and misting fans. If you are "dissing" those things you are "dissing" half the Dis. I am actually far more interested in what fanny packs are good and how to fit stuff in them than I am in what you consider soooo 80's or 90's or whatever. It is one thing for us to poke fun at ourselves for succumbing to the practicality of fanny packs and it's another thing rattle off a list of fashion don'ts.
(stepping off soapbox)

For this past trip I upgraded my fanny pack to the High Sierra Titan it worked very well. was large enough for the digi cam, cell phone NOT to be near the room key, tickets, kleenex, purell, snacks and 2 16 oz bottles of water on the sides. I have been a fanny pack wearer since a friend who came to our home as an exchange student from Japan ,in yes the 80's, when we were in college. she brought them as hostess gifts and all of the exchange students we hosted from Japan carried them. No i don't carry it every day just when we go out and I don't want to deal with my purse like to the zoo or local theme park or festival where a purse could be a target for a thief. For me it's about being practical and functional and you know I feel pretty good about myself walking around WDW in shirts that match my family with lime green mouse heads from home depot hanging from my fanny pack having a great time. Maybe to some I am the picture of the definition of "dufus" but then they may be my picture of the definition of "dufus". We each feel good about ourselves and we've entertained the other. :sunny:

I may look like a dufus on vacation - but I have a great time and love every minute of it!!!!!!!!

I wear my crocs with socks, fannypack, matching tie dye t-shirts and I am proud of it!!!!! I am much more concerned with having fun than I am with looking good - I guess it is just a confidence issue!

oh and my AWESOME fanny pack cost me $4.95 at Wal-Mart - and carries everything I need it to - so to get the $100 bag you are talking about would be quite a leap for me!!!!!
